Both trends could affect the Jazz, though which factor is more important won't be known until the Jazz start spending, too. The Dallas Mavericks, a day after losing starting point guard Steve Nash to Phoenix, threw their entire mid-level exception at restricted free agent Marquis Daniels, keeping the second-year guard with a reported six-year, $38 million contract. Meanwhile, Denver agreed to a multiyear deal with center Marcus Camby, and Cleveland negotiated a deal to keep forward Carlos Boozer. The signings, which cannot become official until July 14, remove millions of dollars (especially from Phoenix and Denver, which, like Utah, have an unusual amount of salary-cap space) that could have been used to compete with the Jazz. </div> <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">But there are still plenty more to court, and according to the agent for another player, O'Connor will spend today targeting Manu Ginobili. It looks as if the Jazz might not get a big name free agent this year. I would like to have Manu, but we done have 3 good shooting guards. It looks as Dampier is set on Memphis, Okur seems to be re-signing with Detroit, and Marquies Daniels got the mid-level exception with Dallas. Maybe can get a guy like Mark Blount or Etan Thomas and keep some of our own. Also more and more it looks as if Ostertag might be our best bet at center.
