It's a known sports fact that Philidelphia fans, no matter what sport, are the worst fans and are impossible to please. They often boo their teams for poor performances and give their teams no support.
to want AI...*sigh*....or not to want AI... that is the question. Would you want AI on your team. ask yourself that question. Lets say, theoretically, the T'Wolves are down 2. AI inbounds the ball...dribbles down court. He has 3 guys open and KG open for an easy layup. Only, he doesn't pass to the open man and guns for the game winning shot only to miss and have your team lose. That is what having AI on your team is like
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting KG-MVP:</div><div class="quote_post"> I would be frustrated if I was in his situation, and I don't blame him for anything hes done. Iverson has been framed as a bad guy, but hes a good guy and should get al the respect he deserves. </div> That's the problem w/ fans, they really feel as if they know these athletes. To say that he has a free pass for everything that he has done is giving him religious credentials. Iverson is a great player, but he also needs to be held accountable when necessary.
Oh man, not another hater. Plz don't talk about other cities fans, no one hear is saying anything here about fans, just the player from the post. I'm from philly and love our fanbase. I respect all other fans too (except Cowboys fans) so plz show some courtesy.
Ok, thats an exaggeration. ON a team ike the Wolves, AI wouldn't be taking taht kind of shot. On the Sixers he would. And why not, he's an MVP. Are you confused? The Sixers offense would run thru Iverson, thats the way it should be. Hes just getting the ball and using it,because who else is going to handle it? Thats what an MVP does, he takes control of situations.
Jordan is an MVP too right? didn't he pass up the game winning shot so that Kerr could make it because he was open. AI is a BALLHOG, he only plays well in roughhouse because he doens't have to pass to anyone. and believe me, he probably would take the shot for the reason you jsut mentioned in your post
Iverson is a perrenial superstar who has an unstoppable offensive game. He wills his team most of the nights, if not every night to play extra harder to win a game. He undoubtedly has the most heart in the NBA. He never gives up and he is never fatigue. The only downfall of his game is that he has a tendency to brick 5 shots in a row, but that doesn't change the fact that he's an undersized shooting guard who can dominate a game whenever he wants. He has a game that many players don't have. If I would build a team around him anyday. He's that good of a player. You've been living in a cave all these times.
These stats don't look that impressive: FG % .387 TO 4.4 That is 4 a game.... I'm sorry but a player who demands that many shots a game and shoots this bad, should not get the ball. He does have a lot of energy but give me two players who can shoot over AI anyday.
Simply effort. Gotta love a guy who has so much heart and tries to do so much more than he possibly could.
so the ai detractors have proven one thing, he's got issues now shut up. the dude grew up in the maryland housing projects in a single parent household, that kind of upbringing breeds issues. the teams that were assembled around him were egregiously inept on the offensive end and he still took them to the finals. i think people have unfairly labeled him selfish not taking into account that he had nobody to pass to. And to answer your question about whats so great about ai? he took a collection of nba misfits, the 2000-01 sixers to the finals, he?s arguably the best clutch shooter in the game, he?s the most dominant 6 foot player ever, his skillset is unprecedented and as a fan he gives u those transcendent experiences making u believe in miracles. i hope that doesn?t sound like a cliche but dude?s got serious game.
Ok, my two cents. Starting with him carrying the team...in the 2000-2001 season, Iverson took the Sixers to the finals, right? Wrong. He didn't take them...not alone. There's a guy named Dikembe Mutombo that quietly led that team to where they ended up. What are they doing without him? They don't even make the playoffs. Here's a problem I have with guys like Iverson: you say that he pretty much carries the team on his shoulders, and he's playing 5 on 1 most every game, right? Big deal. If I were to go out and play the Lakers, I'd be playing 5 on 1 also, but I wouldn't win, correct? Well, neither does Iverson. So does that make me just as good? Same with McGrady. About his durability, yeah...I'll agree that the guy has alot of toughness. He also has alot of speed, and that's why he can play the point and the 2 spot. He can create his own shots...but does anyone realize that the guys that play in the NBA are there for a reason? Most all of them are in great condition compared to guys like us...so when Iverson is throwing his body in the paint for a layup on guys that are a foot taller, that's nice, but not impressive. He can adjust his shot in the air, like most guards can...I can name off 20 other guards that are just as good at manipulating shots. Point is, guys like Iverson and McGrady cannot play with other big-name stars without being discredited. Sure, they can pass the ball when they want...but you'll hardly ever see someone outscore these guys when they play 45 minutes. The excuses some fans give that nobody else can score is all BS, because if Iverson is so big of a threat, all he has to do is penetrate and kick it out to someone...or just find someone cutting inside. Jordan did this with Pippen and the rest of the guys on his team. As far as someone saying that Iverson is the best clutch shooter...whoa. Haha...I heard on SportsCenter a while back that Iverson has never made a game-winning shot. To just verify that, I've never seen him make one either, or anything considered clutch...maybe I'm wrong if he's made one or two, but he's not Reggie Miller or Kobe Bryant. To sum it up, Iverson is difficult to coach, and I wouldn't sign him for anything. My players would get worse, and would have to accomodate a guy who never wants to practice (in other words, doesn't want to involve the team when he's playing). I'd rather have 5 losing seasons in a rebuilding process than to sign Iverson.
"iverson has never hit a game winning shot"? my eyes must be deceiving me cause i've seen him hit many. your little diatribe was hilarious since u compare iverson with tmac, who fyi never advanced past the first round in his career. bitch about his character, i understand his brashness might be perceived has abrasive by some but deriding his game is a moronic exercise. sports is the greatest meritocracy, his merits speaks for themselves; mvp and he led his team to the finals. btw, if u watched the sixers playoff run that season u saw ad manhandle dikembe.
Dikembe was pulling down all the rebounds from Iverson's 50 shot attempts. Without him, Iverson never would've gotten the ball back to shoot it for a second attempt. And...about leading his team to the Finals, when is that ever enough in the NBA? Nobody cares what East team goes to the Finals since the Bulls. Almost everyone figured the Pistons were going to lose this year, but they upset the Lakers...the Sixers didn't even come close. What they did was create all the hype that they would win with the first victory, but then they were shut out 4 games straight. If you don't win the title, then you don't matter...and that's not my choice...it's been like that for ages in the NBA. Alot of people can say that the Lakers were three time champs, and the Bulls were six time...but do these people know who they beat for the titles and in what order? Probably not everyone. The fact is that Iverson hasn't really done anything to be remembered by...except for a ROTY award and an MVP, but how far did the MVP season carry him? Not far enough. I remember guys like Wilt for his scoring, Jordan for his prestige, Bird for his clutch, but what about Iverson? For his arguments and not wanting to come off the bench...for his press conferences...and for being uncoachable. Hmm...kinda the way I remember Dennis Rodman. About the clutch shots...give me a few games that mattered, and shots that were considered clutch...and then I'll admit that he's a clutch player.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">so the ai detractors have proven one thing, he's got issues now shut up. the dude grew up in the maryland housing projects in a single parent household, that kind of upbringing breeds issues</div> First, that's rude as hell and completely unnecessary to tell people to shut up when they bring up valid points. Second, your example for ignoring those "issues" are laughable. So because he grew up in the projects, means that he's bound to have issues? I'm sure there are plenty of people who grew up in the projects who will have "issues' of thier own with your statements.
I don't like AI. He needs 25-30 shots to get 25-30 points. Shoots a pretty low FG% percentage aswell.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I can name off 20 other guards that are just as good at manipulating shots. </div> Alright name them dude. I'd like to see you try... <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Nobody cares what East team goes to the Finals </div> Then why does everyone talk about the NJ Nets so highly? Why are they followed? Can't remember anything good about Iverson dude? I pity you then, you should see a doctor. I think you're suffering from memory loss. Funny how when I think of Kobe, I never think of MVP, cause he never HAS been MVP, OR Finals MVP. KOBE IS IN THE SHADOW OF SHAQ, THE MOST DOMINANT PLAYER IN THE HISTORY OF BASKETBALL. HOW ELSE DOES HE WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIPS? CARRYING THE TEAM ON HIS SHOULDERS??? Dude, gimmie a break. Did A.I ever have a big man that dominant to help him when he's double-triple teamed or take the pressure off? You say Kenny thomas? Dikembe, Dalembert?! HAHA, Thomas could barely score back in the day, same goes for Mutumbo, and Dalembert is JUST developing... BTW, who else can shoot the clutch shot on Philly BESIDES A.I?!!! Answer me guys... Noone, so the team KNOWS the ball is going to Iverson... who they gonna give it to? Snow? McKie? Go get a KitKat and gimmie a break... Jesus <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I'm sure there are plenty of people who grew up in the projects who will have "issues' of thier own with your statements</div> Hey Hagrid, did you grow up in the streets? Didn't think so. So don't think like you know you'll be a good person after growing up from the hood, which you prolly don't know what it is, since you're busy casting spells at Harry Potter world. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">There's a guy named Dikembe Mutombo that quietly led that team to where they ended up</div> Oh really, so now Dikembe lead the team and not Iverson? Funny how I only remember Dikembe getting a couple blocks and a handful of rebounds, then getting traded away the next year... Hey real deal, do you play basketball? Do you know how hard you get banged up in the bigger leagues when you drive and you're the smallest guy on the court, with a bunch of people over 6-5? We're not talking about like public school basketball which maybe you play, so you think driving doesn't hurt as long as you change your shot... Just cause iverson cahnges his shot doesn't mean he doens't get hurt. Ther'es elbows flying every which way, he's gettting kneed, he's getting hit everywhere, the little things that the refs dont see. Plus the ones they do. Add diving for every possible loose ball and sacrificing his body... puhlease, I'd like to see you drive the lane in the NBA with a bunch of 7 footers that are 3x bigger than you standing there.
I grew up in Downtown Baltimore, MD in the ghetto. This did not stop me from going to college, and I don't try to shoot anybody. So tough life does not always bring issues.
You Philly fans should thank Iverson, without him you guys wouldn't be seeing the playoffs for so long, you'd barely think they exhisted. You say you grew up in the ghetto eh Urban, did you have a single paretn who worked many jobs so couldn't look after you? So you had to basically fend on your own... I'm not just saying it's a.i, it's in general. The kids that do suceed in environments like that are special cases... which is why you see it on tv so much. TOO MANY kids are lost in the ghetto life.

If he didn't shoot 30 or so shots per game, he would never average near 30 ppg. He is a very streaky shooter who is not on as often as you think he is. I will agree he has heart. And, you claim his only downfall is he has a tendency to miss a lot of shots in a row. Yea, that is true. He's also about 6 inches shorter than any other shooting guard in the league. He commits tons of turnovers, over 4 per game. He's hurt a lot but does play through it. He's a whiner. He's a ballhog. That's a lot more than just one fault. You apparently decided to overlook all of these things.
