<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">It wasn't long after Larry Brown resigned as head coach of the 76ers in May 2003 that Billy King placed a call to Mike Krzyzewski, his former coach at Duke, his mentor and his friend.

"I said, 'The job is yours if you want it,' " recalled King, the president and general manager of the Sixers.

"Once Larry resigned, we talked, but he said no. Actually, he was talking to his whole family about it, but he felt it wasn't the right opportunity."

Krzyzewski, winner of three national championships at Duke, is talking to his whole family about an NBA vacancy again this weekend. This time, it's the Los Angeles Lakers who are offering a head coaching job, and the man they call Coach K is giving it serious thought.

King, who admitted he didn't think Krzyzewski would say yes to his offer last year, said yesterday he really doesn't know what his coach might be thinking.

"I've talked to Coach K about the NBA for a number of years, the pros and cons about it," King said. "I have not talked to him at this point. But it's something he's looking at, so it must be something that he wants.</div>

If I would’ve known, I would be in heavy favor of signing Coach K. Besides Rick Carlise, (which I have no idea why King didn't offer him coaching job) I would defiantly want Coach K to coach the 76ers. Looking at our other options (Randy Ayers), I'm not surprised that he offered Coach K a coaching job. Coach K has been claimed to be the type of coach to demand respect no matter what locker room he walked in. So with that kind aura surrounding him, I think it would benefit us. But even if we did sign him, do you believe we would have been better off with him?

No, no, and no. No college coach in a million years is going to come in and be succesful with an NBA franchise. The NBA is full of money grabbing whores, who would rather put themselves first instead of the team. A coach with no expertise of professional sports that comes in and witnesses this is going to have a hard time getting through to his guys. This stands a fact in any sport, in football ( a la the former Gators coach, Spurrier I think), and in basketball ( a la Rick Pitino, and many others).

The NBA differs very much from the college game which in some areas is still pure basketball, and thus why it attracts more viewers. The kids in college want to play ball, because they love ball and they want to achieve higher levels of it. However, it is known fact that when someone puts money under your nose, and lots of it, you become greedy, the more money, the more greedy you are. Of course there are exceptions to this, but majority of the NBA IMO is like this.
