There are reports the Magic will send power forward Drew Gooden and center Andrew DeClercq to the Miami Heat for Caron Butler, who had a mild sophomore slump last season in the midst of the Heat's overall improvement. The pickings among free agents at small forward that the Magic have for their $5.1 million middle-class exception are fairly slim, especially after Marquis Daniels -- the Orlando native who came on strong during his rookie season -- decided Friday to re-sign with the Dallas Mavericks.

If I were the Magic I wouldnt do this trade, giving up a quality big man (Drew) for a inconsitant swing man would not be a good idea.

IF the trade is for Gooden and Decqlerq no. If its for just one of the two then I would consider it but Caron for both of those guys is just out of the question. Drew Gooden's gonna be an allstar wait and see, he was the 5th pick for a reason.

Well I would rather do Gooden and Declerq than just Gooden. No way they give up Caron for just Declerq. I would rather keep Gooden, but if Gooden will stunt Dwight's growth, then trade him for a SF, I just think we could get someone better.

I don't know about this trade. We don't have many big men on this team as it is. To trade 2 of them would seem kind of foolish. Cato and D.Howard would be our only legitimate big man. Unless the Magic already know they're going to get either Foyle or Blount I wouldn't do it.

I hope this trade doesn't go down.

    I wouldn't do it either.
Orlando is loaded at 1, 2 and 3.
Cato is a decent center, but he'll need some help on post.
Money wise the trade wouldn't work either. Miami would have to add another player to the deal.

So unless Magic trade/sign another bigalo, I'd hold on to Gooden.

Well Gooden can't be an All-Star with Dwight Howard on the team. Caron Butler even though he wasn't scoring, played great defense, and was a beast on the boards late in the season, and during the playoffs.

True, Butler is a good defender and is still young but we already have Hill in the SF position. [IMG]

Grant Hill will not be back to his all-star form. We should start Bogans or Stevenson or Dwight at the SF position and bring Hill off the bench.

Stevenson should mos def start. I think this is going to be his break out season. I know he has the talent to be a superstar. Has anyone seen the way he played at the mcdonald hs games.

You realize the HS all-star games have absoutely nothing to do with how good they are in the NBA? It's completely different level.

Also that Stevenson's high school all-star games were about 4 years ago....

I'd hold on to Gooden. They already have Hill and Bogans to fill that small forward spot so they don't need another. Plus, you don't want to give up a very good and young big man, especially in the East. So, this trade, I wouldn't do it. Butler is a great player and might be better than Gooden, but, in this case, Gooden is more valuable in a Magic uni than Butler is in my opinion.

    Gooden and Declercqs salary -
    <div align="right">5,979,892</div>
    Caron Butlers salary -
    <div align="right">1,920,560</div>
Players on Miami roster that even the trade salarys -
    <div align="right">None</div>

So, this trade can happen on these terms:
    a) Wang Zhi Zhi or Rasual Butler sign for 4 million and then traded to Magic
[IMG] A player signs with the Heat for the MLE, and then being dealt to Orlando
    c) The salary cap increases to about $48 million

I don't want this one to go down. Andrew can go but not Gooden. He still has alot to prove this season and I want him to be in a Magic jersey when he proves this.

Declercq would make a nice 3rd string center.
