Coach Mike Krzyzewski has decided to remain at Duke, turning down the Los Angeles Lakers' lucrative contract offer.

After taking the weekend to mull the offer, reported by ESPN's Stephen A. Smith as a five-year, $40 million deal, Krzyzewski decided to remain as the Blue Devils' coach.

There were several incentives, beyond the financial, in place to lure Krzysewski to the Lakers, including Kobe Bryant's wish to play for Coach K.
The Los Angeles Times reported that Bryant told Krzyzewski just that last week. Some Duke basketball people were in a campus gym when Krzyzewski came in and told the group, "You'll never guess who called. Kobe Bryant. He wants me to come coach him."

But the Dookies were pulling hard for Krzyzewski to remain on campus, and with good reason. An official announcement is expected at an afternoon news conference at Duke

Well to bad for the Lakers,it seems that he is to loyal to leave Duke for the NBA in my opinion.

Now I bet the Rudy T talk well start coming up again.

Well it looks like the Lakers will have to "settle" for Rudy T. Hopefully for them that idiot Kupcheck isn't to stupid to look past him again.

Yeah I too am surprised he rejected that type of deal...and yeh this pretty much means Rudy T will be their new coach, since reports have indicated he was a strong second option and he will accept their offer...

IMO Rudy T is too good for the lakers... if they skipped him once then he shouldnt accept the offer... i mean they just looked over him when they thought about coach k. lakers deserve a season with no playoffs....

    I agree.
If they him the first time he shouldn't accept.
The Lakers don't have to have eerything that's best. They should go for one of the lesser candidates, it's a much smarter thing to do, and the Lakers organization is too stupid to realize it. Someone like Henry Bibby would be a great coach.

I'm not surprised by this move at all. Coach K DEFINES college bball. It just ain't the same without him. Good move by Coach K. That just shows there's more things in life than $ such as loyalty, real comradeship, and just plain BETTER basketball environment.

I'm kinda surprised he would shoot down that huge offer, but, than again, not totally. The talk over the weekend on ESPN was he was going to decline the offer, and that's partially why I'm not surprised. Also, the success he's had on the college level and the amount of success college coaches have when they jump to the NBA is also why I'm not. That and the fact that he's an idle on the Duke campus. Everyone there loves him and it's a great enviroment for him I think. Reason I'm surprised, that's a lot of cash he blew off. But, not everything is about the money I suppose.
