<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Los Angeles Times is reporting that general manager Mitch Kupchak has reached out to North Carolina coach Roy Williams about the Lakers' head coaching vacancy. After being turned down by Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski, Kupchak told the Times that former Rockets coach Rudy Tomjanovich was not his sole focus, and sources indicated he got permission from his alma mater, North Carolina, to interview Williams by telephone. In his first year at UNC after leaving Kansas, Williams took the Tarheels from 8-20 to 19-16.</div> <div align="center">Link</div>
Ok now Kupchak is going insane. Memo to Chak: Get out of the collegiate ranks!!! Heck, it's bad enough we got rejected by Coach K, arguably the best college basketball coach alongside John Wooden, but to go out there and pursue Roy Williams, and repeatedly slap Rudy Tomjanovich in the face is ridiculous and pathetic. Why don't we forget about Roy Williams and all these other fanstastic coaches with brilliant coaching records and go for a guy that has the NBA experience and knows how to win in the NBA with Rudy T? Heck, is there anyone better that can actually deal with the drama, roller-coaster like effect in Los Angeles? Who cares what the assistant-GM Kobe Bryant thinks? An NBA coach with experience to me is way better than a coach with NO NBA experience at all and has to adjust to life in an entirely different system. Let's get this coaching frenzy over with so that we can get down to our other priorities.
Roy Williams has always stated that North Carolina is his dream job...he's only been there two (?) years and has accomplished nothing as of yet, I don't see him leaving already...the job is incomplete in UNC

I appreciate the Lakers looking at all possibilities, but the longer they drag out the search for a coach, the harder it will be for them to figure out how to restock their team. Rudy T makes a lot of sense for the Lakers, and I don't understand Kupchak's desire to find a college coach. Possibly Larry Brown winning last year is the root of Kupchak's relentless pursuit of the top college coaches. I just hope the Lakers don't drive Rudy T off by making inquiries into the NCAA ranks. Rudy T brings class and an outstanding track record to the Lakers. He has handled big name players before and has two rings under his belt. I'm confident he can get Shaq and Kobe to settle their differences, but in order for the Lakers to have a season NOT filled with drama, they need to win consistently so the friction b/t Shaq and Kobe doesn't start up again. Rudy T did a nice job with Francis and Yao, until the Rockets started slumping. It was hard for Rudy T to put out the fire and convince Francis, that the team needs to run the ball through Yao. Convincing Kobe to run the offense through Shaq, or vice versa is going to be 100 times harder.

And, I agree with what Emo said. Stop going for coaches in the college ranks. They always turn out to be busts anyways so don't even bother. And, if you get shot down by arguably the best coach in college hoops, you shouldn't even try for someone else. Plus, Roy Williams has always wanted to coach at his alma moter and he is currently doing so, therefore, I don't see him leaving. So, my thoughts, just give Rudy the job before he says, hey, screw you guys, you kept looking at college coaches who have proven nothing in the NBA over me, a guy who has won 2 titles. Eat *explative*. So, yea, I'd just get him before he has that type of thought process. Because, by repeatedly smacking him in the face by going after college coaches, you're likely hurting your chances of getting him.
I agree totally guys! Kupchak is definitely crazy. I mean like you saidI appreciate him trying to get a great coach but going to the collegiate ranks isnt the answer. Roy Williams and Coach K are great coaches.. in the college game! I respect them both but I dont believe they would do well in the NBA. Rudy T is the guy to go after. He has won championships in this league and is a great coach. He also knows how to work with superstars of the league. Hes our guy and if we dont get him I would most likely be very disappointed.
