According to this report Babcock has contacted Erick Dampier. So maybe there is hope, but i think we would need a trade to get him here. If Babcock pulls this one off then BABCOCK IS THE REAL DEAL!

You will have to scroll down. Its in the last paragraph.

I don't see how we can get good players if all these players are ignoring the Raptors and signing with other teams.

well watching the summer league today babcock was interviewed and he stressed the raptor urgent need for a veteran center to start. which gave me the indication that they were going to dangle marshall and possibly mopete (sign and trade) probably their only tradable assets for a center.

I don't see a point in acquiring Dampier. If we were to acquire Dampier, than the Araujo selection was a complete waste. Araujo is ready to play now, he's 24, spent 4 years in college, unlike many other players coming to the league now days. He doesn't need a 9 Million dollar player playing ahead of him, especially in the East. If we were to trade Marshall, it would be for some depth and quality players. Two of our starters from last year will likely be on the bench this year (Marshall and Williams), so that will improve our bench. However we need role players not Dampier. We can get role players by trading away Marshall, but it's not a must.

i never suggested marshall for dampier, that would be lopsided for us. i just think the raptors want to acquire a veteran center, i don't know who the mystery dude is.

btw, i rushed home today to catch the second half of the summer league game and araujo is a project more than anything, not capable of starting in the nba. he's slow, can't jump at all though he's big and strong. he can play 15-20 minutes but starting is sorta out of the question.

I actually think signing Dampier is a good thing. We need a centre that can start games for us right away. I don't think Araujo can start for us until a year from now so Dampier can help his developement and help us win games at the same time. Bosh cannot and I repeat...cannot start at the 5 again this season. If he does he will just hinder his developement and also be more susceptible to injury in his young career.

BTW Araujo just grabbed 18 boards in the last game and only had 3 personal fouls. I know it's just a Summer league but those are numbers I can live with.

I was reffering to the guy who posted above me about trading Marshall and Mo Pete in a sign and trade for Dampier, deception

I undestand what your saying, but do we really need Dampier for one year or so and give him a big contract for around 6 years? He's wanting a 6 year contract, so if we give it to him, Babcock will and should be critisized more for the drafting of Araujo.

Very true indeed. But if we have the opportunity to sign Dampier it might actually vault the Raptors into elite status in the East, rather than waiting for Araujo to come around.

Think of this lineup:

PG- Alston
SG- Vince
SF- Rose
PF- Bosh
C- Dampier

Bench- Araujo, Mason Jr., Alvin Williams

I think that lineup has enough talent to contend with most East teams and some West ones as well.

Yea we can definitly contend with that lineup, but do we really need to wait for Araujo? He's spent 4 years in college and is ready to contribute. Im hoping he'll get around 11 and 8 a game, similar to Bosh's numbers last year without the number of blocks. Sure Dampier gives us a presence in the paint, but doesn't Araujo? I would really be ticked off if we got Dampier. We would give up a solid player in a Marshall and not only that, we could of had Iggy, Luke Jackson, Kirk Snyder or even Jameer Nelson on our team coming off the bench instead of Rafael.

reread it. i said babcock was targeting a veteran center not dampier and that marshall and mopete would be likely moved in such a scenario.

the dampier thing is getting intriguing now that reportedly the grizzlies used their entire mid level exception on brian cardinal. the grizzlies were the frontrunner in the dampier sweepstakes. i think dampier is holding out for a huge contract, a contract that i don?t think he?s going to receive.

If we could get dampier, it would be great, he is a great center, that can do it all. I don't know how we could get him, cause he wants big bucks!!!!! that we don't have. But i like what thedude9990, stromile swift is a center, and he played in the west against people much bigger than him, so he can play against taller people. he is 6ft 10in or around there, and he has mad ups!!!!!!!!! he has a ok shot from around 15ft. but he is a good player, that could become a great player. i don't think he wants that much $$$$, so we could sign him. i think it would be smart to sign stromile swift to a contract.

since cardinal got alot of $$$ in memphis, they might be giving up on stromile, thats why we could sign him.

no...stro show, is a pf. he may log some clock at the center position, but he's not a center. we already have an undersized big man to play center in moiso.

damp would be SICK. he's obviously the top choice in centers...if the raps can dump donyell, and alvin, we'd be able to afford him easily. maybe even donyell and palacio would give us enough flexibility to sign him. if its possible, i hope it happens. gives the raps a stacked line up, and a big man that could put up all star numbers playing in the east.

they would probably want donyell and montross' contract which expires next season to give them cap room to sign j.rich. of course that would be predicated on them having no interest in signing dampier for big money and wanting something in return like cap space.btw, as aformentioned i watched the summer league game today and i think bonner can give most of what marshall gave us without the shot blocking. in fact, bonner looked really good, he can be an ideal fourth or fifth big off the bench. plus, he would be cheap and u would want that if want to keep hefty contracts on your roster.

I liked Bonner last summer league, too... he definitely showed promise on his jumper (his range, mostly), and his consistency... he's definitely toned up... perfected his shot and improved his defense... to the point where he's a legitimate shot blocker.
I think he got 3 last game... and definitely gets a hand up, and changes shots, whether they get blocked or not.

I like Marshall... but I'm all for signing Bonner for cheap... and clearing out Marshall for some flexibility.
If we could get Damp... i would certainly NOT be upset... who would have thought going into the draft that we stand a chance getting him... so what's the difference with Araujo starting and coming in for relief? He's not worth getting signed if he doesn't start??

I don't see the logic in that. He doesn't lose his size just because he starts on the pine.

Here are some people i think we should look at to help us at the center position:
Chris Mihm, keon Clarck,Steven Hunter, Stromile Swift, Erick Dampier. We could get eric dampier if we get rid of Donyell Marshall, lamond murray, and alvin williams. Maybe could do a sign and trade using those guys for dampier.

But we need to get another center, cause aroujo hasn't proven he can start. Babcock doesn't want to be like grunwald and go the hole year saying he will get a center, and never does. We need a center, so babcock should go and help the team. SHAQ IS NOW IN THE EAST!!!

keon clark??? stephen hunter??? after the harsh words keon had for the raps and vince when he left for sac town, you really think he'd consider comming back? not likely

stephen hunter is a worse option then aroujo, since he's had an opportunity to start in the nba, and stank. hes terrible, he's the last person i want starting at center

we shouldnt need to dump lammond, donyell AND alvin, two of the three probably...and like deception said, throw in montross contract

how about a trade? i wonder if detroit would be willing to trade elden campbell...or if the cavs are looking to dump big Z's contract in an effort to match the utah offer

What's with all these people with horrible false hope, I knew we weren't getting Dampier since day 1, I settled that with myself, he would be a waste of our money.
Do you actually think Golden State want's the contracts or Alvin, Donyell (good one), and Lammond? [IMG] Not even the contracts, they don't really need any of them as players either, they're a decently deep team, and with some more additions they'll be good (in depth).

PG - NVE / Claxton
SG - J-Rich / Pietrus
SF - Dunleavy / Pietrus
PF - Murphy / Cliff / Biedrins
C - Foyle / Biedrins / Eschmeyer
or........
PG - NVE / Claxton / Alvin
SG - J-Rich / Pietrus
SF - Dunleavy / Lammond / Pietrus
PF - Murphy / Marshall / Cliff / Biedrins
C - Foyle / Biedrins

I think they could get the same effect with cheaper players on the FA market.
Also we'd have to get back at least 12.9 million dollars in contract, we'll save 3 million, and still be over the cap, and then have Dampier for a few years.

Ya, i like the idea about tryin to get Z from cleveland, they might want to dump that big contract like u said to match utah's offer to boozer. They also have tony battie, so i think he is capable of starting, so they could think about tradind Z to us.
