<div class="quote_poster">Quoting CourtVision:</div><div class="quote_post">I thought the whole idea about the Marbury trade was to save money?? Now they are just throwing it away like it was made out of toilet paper. I'm not going to down this trade yet. IF they trade one of their guards or Marion for a bigman almost all of this nonsense will make sense. But if they don't.......We are now looking at the New York Knicks of the West (with more cap space of course).</div> Their whole idea of trading Marbury was to create more cap room, get a pick and trade for two very good prospects one of which plays in europe. With that cap space they trade away Marbury and likely add Nash and Richardson. Lampe has the skills to be a star, so cap space should not be the only reason for that move. New York Knicks of the west? wouldn't they need to be useless for that theory to actually come into effect? Oh and being far more talented and having a better chance to win a title for the future. Don't quite get that comparison. Even I they don't trade for a center, having a guard rotation of Nash/Johnson and Richardson is not a bad situation to be in. They will be more like last years Dallas Mavericks than the Knicks. It's not like they will have a completely useless frontcourt, they will still have that guy named Amare.

I don't think bringing JJ off the bench will help his developement and I would mos definitely start him over Q. You can't start Q at the 3 either because Marion has that spot locked <font size="1">(unless he gets traded). </font> Which leads me to this: I don't think Q signed with Phoenix with the intent to come off the bench. IF he or JJ can accept a role as the sixth man it can work for the better in Phoenix. But that is a big IF. My beef is: Why bring in a player that is not named Kobe to play the same position as two of your young stars <font size="1">(Marion and Johnson)</font><font size="2"> I know QRich has mad talent but in this case someone has to be benched/traded and it might be QRich.</font>
I think if the Suns can pick up Q, it would be a huge boost. If friction occurs between management and Joe Johnson, the Suns could look to ship Johnson to Cleveland for Z and Luke Jackson, giving both teams something they need. I think it would be a huge move.

This is a message board so there's nothing I will ever take seriously. I will debate but certainly won't take anything like this "seriously" <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">My beef is: Why bring in a player that is not named Kobe to play the same position as two of your young stars (Marion and Johnson) I know QRich has mad talent but in this case someone has to be benched/traded and it might be QRich.</div> They went out and got the best available/talent in free-agency, after guys like Okur and Foyle decided to sign with other teams Phoenix had to look elsewhere, even If that meant going after another guard. Only Erick Dampier is available but he is demanding over 10 million a year while stating he wants to go to Memphis. So the Suns went out and tried to add in talent. From what I read yesterday Richardson wouldn't mind coming off the bench. He just wants to win and make an impact. He wouldn't be the first guy to get paid 8 million a year to come in as a 6th man. Antawn Jamison, Abdur-Rahim and next year Manu Ginobili will also be getting 8 million a year to come off the bench. However with all this said, the Clippers could very well match the offer sheet to Richardson and all this disussion won't matter.
Another big reason they traded Starbury, was to get rid of the big contract of Penny Hardaway, and to see if JJ can blossom and handle the starting 2 Guard spot. Obviously he did, and what happens? he might get demoted again to the bench. I was hoping Q-Rich could land in Denver. The best case scenerio for JJ is that the Clippers match the offer and Marion stays and he gets to play with Amare, Nash and Shawn for next year. I would prefer to see that then see Q take his spot in the lineup and watch him have his woes from the bench like he did when Penny was here.
Phoenix made a good move by applying their much vaunted draft tactic - Best Player Available - to free agency. Q is good for 16/6, and a good complement to Amare, along with Nash, JJ and everyone else. They can now look to cash in on Shawn Marion's value for a true center.
What if the Clippers don't match but they agree to a sign and trade that sends JJ to LA (not happening), then LA can have JJ and Maggette at the 2 and 3, and Phoenix Richardson and Matrix.
Well then the Clippers pulled off a real good deal. The Suns can just sign him and the Clips can't match, and they won't get him, while the Suns will have both. I wish this could happen, but its not happening as you said.

You can't really compare his situation to Jamison, Abdur-rahim and Ginobilli's. Yes they are subs but Jamison and Abdur-rahim were signed to that money when they were starters on their respective teams. Ginobilli, we all know will not be on the bench forever in San Antonio. He will start and he is getting paid starter "type" numbers. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting AllNet:</div><div class="quote_post">However with all this said, the Clippers could very well match the offer sheet to Richardson and all this disussion won't matter.</div> I don't think that will happen as long as they are still in the running for Kobe. He did a very effective job as a 6th man with the Clippers. I don't see it being a problem. Their move to sign Richardson is also a back-up plan for when Joe Johnson will demand big money next summer. That way If he gets offered a huge deal then Phoenix wouldn't be forced to max the guy out and could let him go or sort out a sign and trade. As I said before,They went out and got the best available talent left. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">You can't really compare his situation to Jamison, Abdur-rahim and Ginobilli's. Manu will continue to come off the bench next season and will likely become a starter sometime in the future but he is best used off the bench as an instant spark. Even If Q came off the bench this year, doesn't mean he will continue to do so the rest of his career or neven next year. He is only 24 and has all-star talent. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I don't think that will happen as long as they are still in the running for Kobe. Clippers will have 15 days to match starting on wednesday when free-agents are allowed to sign with teams. It was actually reported today that Kobe could make a decision this weekend and he will choose between the Lakers and the Clippers. So If Kobe decides to re-sign with the Lakers then there is no reason why the Clippers won't match Richardson.
