How about this... Cleveland trades Kevin Ollie and Tony Battie to Houston for the Glen Rice trade exception (6.9 million). Salaries almost match. This would give Cleveland enough money to sign Boozer and will also give the Rockets backups at C and PG. Battie's a decent C/PF who can block shots and play D, Ollie is a solid PG, though his contract runs a bit long..
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Chucksta:</div><div class="quote_post">Johnny, you're a genius ... Yes, we can re-sign Booz... Great trade </div> actually just replace Ollie with a future first round pick and this deal works for both teams
That is a very good idea and could be the final move to make us legit contenders, if we aren't already. Now if only we can get the Cavalier front office to realize the possibilty...
actually i've been hearing of a variety of deals, but this one particularly stands out... Cleveland trades Battie/Wagner/Ollie for the Rockets TE + Mo Taylor... now its likely we'd have to include a draft pick of sorts or even another player (such as Piatkowksi) but I think the Rockets should target this deal...they get another C/PF who plays hardnosed D, a scoring guard who can be instant offense of the bench and spice up our system as well as a structured, disciplined PG who can run a team efficiently... if we sign Derek, and pull some sort of variation of this trade, I would love it.. C: Ming/Battie PF:Howard/Weatherspoon SF:McGrady/Nachbar SG:Jackson/Wagner PG:Fisher/Lue/Ollie/Gaines Even if Cleveland did not include Ollie, it still works in our favor, I think...especially if JVG is not happy with Mo Taylor's lack of defensive effort, as has been rumored...
Quote me as I say this, but the Rockets will not trade Taylor unless they get an instant scorer to come off the bench. Without Taylor, the Rockets bench would struggle to score 15 points each night, and if your bench doesn't contribute, it puts a lot of strain on the starters to carry the scoring load each night. In this Cleveland scenario, we get Wagner to score, but is he good enough to replace Taylors 11 points per game off the bench? Wagner is a scoring machine, and we all know of that, but will he flourish under a system where defense is emphasized upon and the ball revolves around an inside scorer? As good as Dajuan is, his game will suffer under Van Gundy. He will suck at running the point but is too small at 6-2 to play shooting guard. The loss of bench scoring in Taylor will hurt us eventually. I do not object to a scenario where we trade the exception for a few quality veterans, but if Taylor is involved in any of these scenarios and no bench scorer is given to us in return, I would heavily oppose of it.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Tripl3:</div><div class="quote_post">actually i've been hearing of a variety of deals, but this one particularly stands out... Cleveland trades Battie/Wagner/Ollie for the Rockets TE + Mo Taylor... </div> You can't trade a player and combine the trade exception to make the salaries match According to Houston Chronicle: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> While the Rockets are holding a trade exception worth $6.9 million, salary-cap rules do not allow them to combine that money with a player's salary to make a trade work. For some reason, there are those who refuse to believe this. But when making up trades for fun or profit, trust us, it can't be done. OK. If you won't trust us, trust NBA executive vice president for legal and business affairs Joel Litvin. He and his department must approve all NBA trades that go through. "You cannot aggregate a trade exception with a player's salary in order to make a trade," Litvin said. The Rockets can use some or all of the exception left over from the Glen Rice deal in a sign-and-trade deal for a free agent, allowing them to significantly outbid teams using only the mid-level exception (assuming the other team cooperates)." </div>
How about this the Trade exception and a future first to Cleveland for Tony Battie Eric Williams and Luke Jackson
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting YaoMing03-04:</div><div class="quote_post">no luke jackson then no trade</div> I don't see the need for Luke Jackson, considering we have a veteran version of him on our roster right now but doesn't play: Eric Piatkowski. Both of them are spot-up bombers and bad defenders. What makes you think Jackson would even get to play under Van Gundy?
If We Get Tony Battie, I Even Start Him As A Pf.howard Does Not Play Any Defence.we Need Some Shotbocks And Rebounds And We Are Loosing Md To The Pistons
