I would like to get 4 players back myself if this was to go down. What happened to the whole Dallas talk? This offseason is so excruciating. Never mind, they don't want Shaq to stay in the West for obvious reasons. Duh
The Dallas talks stopped because Dallas gave up Nash to the Suns and they'd deemed Dirk untouchable, and the Lakers had demanded he'd be in the trade if they were to move Shaq somewhere out West. The other fact is what you stated. They wanted Shaq out East where they'd only have to face him twice a year.
The Heat is on now baby! Shaq is gonna rock the house!!! This city is on fire!!!!!! :beerchug:  :049: :dancepart _
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">When did the Lakers realize that they wouldn't be able to talk Shaq into rescinding his trade demand? The first hint: Shaq informed the Lakers that he wouldn't change his mind even if Bryant did bolt for the Clippers ... and even if Buss reversed field and decided to sign him to a max-value extension. The clincher: Shaq called a close friend of Rudy Tomjanovich's last week and told him to tell Rudy T not to take the L.A. job because "I won't be there."</div> As much as I hate to see our great franchise fall apart, that last one is exactly why I am a supporter for trading Shaq. He has already demanded to be traded and knows he won't be playing as a Laker next season. So why the hell does he have to go and try to pursuade Rudy to not take the job? If he isn't planning to be a Laker it's none of his business, and that's just plain childish IMO. Just because the Lakers don't want to keep him he tries to screw them by talking Rudy out of coaching for us.. that is why I'm glad Shaq will be gone. He's just a selfish little child in a giant's body. Good luck Miami, cause I'm glad he's gone.

It's annoying enough that he was getting on Buss' nerves by yelling at him in a preseason game at Honolulu demanding an extension, it was horrible enough that he came into this season out of shape and not being able to play a full 82 game season without faking injuries left and right, it was bad enough that he couldn't accept the role of playing with Kobe Bryant which would've made them the scariest duo in the league for years to come, but all this nonsense about going behind people's back and telling Rudy T not to sign with us is very pathetic on Shaq's part. Why doesn't he just be a man, take his luggage, and head to Miami and resurrect his career once again? What does having bitterness and holding grudges do for you?
I Heard The Whole Deal May Get Killed If Brian Grant Doesn't Doesn't Pass The Physical, Any Word Out There? As A Life Time Laker Fan I Can't Beleive Our Owner Has Lost His Mind And Wants To Kill His Legacy This Way. He Says He Wants To Sit Courtside Next Year, Well He Will Have Plenty Of Empty Seats Unless He Comes To His Senses.

he is not killing the legacy...holding on to shaq and his contract would be killing the legacy...sometimes you hafta take a step back before you can take a step forward...at WORST CASE SCENARIO this is what this trade does for the Lakers...best case scenario they are able to acquire a quality big man and the upgrades to the swing spots and a quality pf in grant keep us rolling right along...anyone who thinks this trade is a bad idea is a moron and doesnt understand the detriments of having a 30 million dollar salary on the books when trying to maneuver in free agency...
I've heard nothing about Brian Grant not passing a physical killing this deal. To comment on what Shaq said, that's pathetic. If you're not going to be a part of the organization, than leave what they do alone. It's none of your business who the coach will be next season nor should you care. You should go about caring where you're possibly going to end up and worry about that and only that, not what your current team is doing coach-wise. The thing that I heard that could potentially hurt the trade is some type of snag in the contract of Lamar Odom. I haven't heard much of anything about it but I heard something about it on SportsCenter when they were talking to Stephen A. Anyone possibly able to go into details on that and fill me in with the rest of the details? It's not supposed to make any diff and the deal is still supposed to be completed in the next 24-48 hours, I'd just like to know.
Lamar Odom has a 15% trade kicker clause in his contract which the lakers were unaware of when they agreed to the trade. A trade kicker is something that teams have with players on occassion that is trying to show committment to keeping them. If the player is traded, he is to receive an additional 15% paid up front in cash by the team receiving him and i believe that 15% is of the remaining value of the contract, not the total value of the contract so in lamar odoms case it would be about 8 million up front in cash for odom...the lakers can hopefully use this as leverage to maybe squeeze dorrell wright out of the deal or restructure it to include payton or whoeverz but we'll see...more than likely its gonna mean the lakers get 2 draft picks instead of 1 and thats it...
Yea, that's what I was needing to know. Stephen A. doesn't believe it will affect the trade going down at all. I don't think it should either. The only thing that could happen is the Lakers might be able to get rid of Payton and either get Wright or another future draft pick with it. Who knows though. I'm betting we find out within 24-36 hours though, and to me, it's very likely that this trade will be done by weeks end or earlier. I don't think the 15% clause in his contract is going to affect anything.
It's official Shaq has been traded. I still don't like the trade, I understand the reasoning for it, but I think the Lakers should have locked Kobe in first. They are now open to losing Kobe to the Clippers or jail, and would be without a superstar. I just find it hard to believe the Lakers couldn't pull off a better deal for the MDE. Unless they have some other deals lined up to land a big man like Dampier or Ratliff, I don't like the trade. The Lakers should have fought to get Dorrell Wright instead of a draft pick, and they should have tried to get Miami to pay for some of Grant's contract. Essentially the Lakers traded Shaq for Odom. There are no guarantees Caron Butler re-signs with the Lakers after 2 years or if the Lakers will even want him back. Currently they have George & Walton and possibly Kobe to play the 3 spot, if Rush ever develops into the starting 2. Grant is a big man well into his decline, and despite being stuck with him for 3 years he caps out at $15M. With Grant coming off in 3 years, it hurts the Lakers chances of making an offer to Yao because Yao becomes a free agent in 2 years. At this time the Lakers will have 3 large contracts on the records (assuming Kobe signs), with Grant and Odom. They also need to re-sign Rush and Walton after this season. Finally I don't like the Lakers caving into Shaq's demands. He has shown 0 class in the entire situation and if I were the Lakers I would have made him regret leaving the Lakers by sending him to the Atlanta franchise or to Toronto. The Hawks future is bleak and he could go rot with their rebuilding team. Sending him Toronto would force him to surrender 50% of his salary to taxes and make his traveling schedule more difficult.
I still believe this will work out for the Lakers. I believe that Kobe will resign because, quite frankly, Kupchak and the rest of the Lakers management have pretty much done everything he's wanted. They didn't resign Phil and let Shaq go. The only thing that could hurt this is the fact that they weren't able to sign Coach K, and it seemed as if Kobe really wanted that to happen. But, in the end, the Lakers can offer Kobe more money than the Clippers, even though they did pull off a trade with Charlotte so they can offer him the 6 year max. I still believe that he will be a Laker though. They can offer him a 7 year max deal, and like I just mentioned, the Clippers can offer him the 6 year max now I believe. But, he said he wants his own team and wants to stay a Lakers, and, now that Shaq is gone, he can stay a Laker and have his own team all at once.
No team would have acquired shaq knowing he didnt want to go there and play, he could sit out and they would be screwed. I have always thought of shaq as a likeable guy, one who says whats on his mind and much more of a fans player than anyone else on the lakers squad. He didnt take things to serious and that made him likea gentle giant. How many championships do the lakers win without him in the last 5? Give the guy more respect people!

It's just a matter of agreeing to what it's going to take to get a deal done. It's a two way street, the Lakers organization was as much a factor helping build the team around Shaq to get him the championships. Now Shaq is talking down on the franchise and forced the Lakers to trade him. People are quick to point out Kobe demanding this and that, guess what, he has the right as a free agent to make these demands. Shaq on the other hand has been more than compensated by the Lakers, yet he refuses to get in shape, play through some pain, and take a paycut after his current contract expires, so the Lakers can reload for more championships. Why should anyone show him respect for being so damn selfish?
How many quality back-ups centers did the lakers score while shaq was around? The organization has done very little (especially since Jerry west left) Some of their major aqcuisitions up until last year included: JR Rider, Samaki Walker, Sean Rooks, and resigning George. The best the Lakers ever where was the result of Phil and the players bringing in Guys like Shaw, Harper, Payton and Malone. Besides Jerry West WAS the organization, Mitch Kupchak doesnt seem to have a damn clue what he is doing! Did you see Cuban on the Late Show the other night ripping up Kupchak it was hilarious, Jerry West was anti-Drama and the lakers need a good dose of that these days.
And I guarantee that under no circumstances would Kobe be making those demands and picking coaches if West was around.
It's Not The Heat, It's The Stupidity THREE EGO'S, BUSS, KOBE, SHAQ, AND NOT ONE OF THEM THOUGHT ABOUT THE FANS, THEY JUST THOUGHT ABOUT MONEY AND WHO'S NAME BELONGS ON THE TOP OF THE MARQUEE. EVERYONE IN THE WEST GOT BETTER EXCEPT THE LAKERS AND THEIR FANS. BUSS SHOULD SELL THEM NOW WHILE HE'S HOT, ASK THE BULLS, BUCKS AND MAGIC WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.
Confused? Well now the Lakers have a true SF in Lamar Odom, and and ok soph in Butler. Isnt Grant injured? We pretty much suck in the 4 and 5 spot so we need to sign someone. The Heat get Shaq but he wont stick around very long he is 32 and has like 3 years left in him. Now who does he have? Wade and Jones? Still not better than the Pistons and Pacers.
