<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Allnet:</div><div class="quote_post">Whats the deal on Stro Swift? now the Grizzles have used the MLE on Cardinal does that mean they won't be able to match any offer to Swift?</div> Wave said it perfectly in one of his earlier posts. The Grizzlies do not have any space to re-sign Swift but they could find a way to if West really wanted to. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Wave:</div><div class="quote_post">Is that speculation or fact? The fact remains that the Grizzlies still have veto power on any deal Stromile wants to sign with another team. Also, there was a story in the paper yesterday which reported that Swift is most likely staying in Memphis because of several reasons. He and his agent might opt to wait until Swift is an unrestricted free agent and capitalize on a seemlingly bigman-less free agency year. Jerry West might also deal him in a sign-and-trade to whichever team expresses the most interest or even to Golden State for Dampier. Then there's always the possibility of West making a trade to clear cap room to sign him.</div>
This reminds me of the Austin Croshere signing a few years back with the Pacers. He gets a ridiculious deal because he had one ok season. People might consider this a "steal" in this years market, but this is getting out of control. No way he should get a 4 year deal, and no way should he get over 6 Million annually. I 5 year 20 Million dollar deal is more like it, even that might be a little too high. We all know what this means though, Dampier is more likely to come to Grizzlies in a sign and trade, because Cardinal can't get as many minutes as the guys currently on the grizzlies (Posey, Wells, Battier, Miller) and they also got a guy by the name of Dahntay Jones.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting AllNet:</div><div class="quote_post">This is not a terrible signing by Memphis but do they really need him? don't they have enough swingmen already? 39 million is quite alot for a guy who will be coming off the bench and won't play big minutes. The amount of years is more of a concern. He's Just another guy added to the "overpaid free-agency list" </div> Could I have a definite yes or no on this question? Is Brian Cardinal able to play the power forward position? Even if Cardinal is better suited to play small forward yet he has the ability to play power forward, I believe we should slot him as Gasol's backup. I'd hate to see him sit on the bench behind Miller and Battier while we pay him 6.5 million dollars. Maybe there will be a trade involving one of the three swingmen. You never know.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Voodoo Child:</div><div class="quote_post">Could I have a definite yes or no on this question? Is Brian Cardinal able to play the power forward position? </div>No. You cannot count on him to play big minutes at the PF position, he will get eaten up. He is not big enough, strong enough, quick enough, or athletic enough to stay with those big men IMO. He could get away with it at times because he is smart and crafty. He is more of a SF. He has a nice stroke from the 3 point line, when left open. He knows the game is a game of angels and he uses them all to his advantage. He is great at drawing fouls. He is a GREAT spark off the bench and will do all of the dirty work. Is he worth that contract? Hell No.

I remember him being a banger at Purdue and was excited when I heard we signed him because of that. However, if he's a wingman we don't need him. Unless Jerry West is looking to trade Shane Battier, Bonzi Wells, Mike Miller, or James Posey, I don't understand this signing as well as I thought I did. If this ultimately comes down to us losing Swift to get Cardinal then I'll be very upset. I'd take Swift over Cardinal 8 times out of 10.
Jerry is a genius, Cardinal shot 44% from the 3, this is gonna be great for our interior guys, we have 2 or 3 real good shooters, that will make the interior players better, coz there will be disadjusts, if we get Damp, we will have a lot of second options. ONE STEP CLOSER.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Rudeezy:</div><div class="quote_post">Who will be the first option next year? Gasol?</div> Yeah he still beeing the most ofensive talented player and I think Cardinal will come off the bench, but having arround a guy shooting 44% from the 3, will open defenses searching for blocks, plus he is a great rebounder. Seems like Jerry is adding slow but constantly the right pieces in the puzzle.
You guys will love him. His energy is contagious and he gets the fans and the players into it. I'm always going to root for him because of his work ethic and the fact he does so many things well despite not having the NBA body. He can shoot the 3, take it to the hole, get to the line, will fight for the ball, take charges, play pressure D. I'm glad the guy got paid finally. http://www.thecustodian.net/
Nice custodian article - <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">He's an energy guy not afraid to flex his hustle. In the not-so-distant past, that meant Brian Cardinal was as solid a pick-up game guy as they come. A player who loves to hurl his body at rebounds, loose balls and passing lanes. Someone to keep training camp interesting and the end of the bench as viable as a nail. But Cardinal, a Golden State Warrior free-agent forward, moves up the NBA ladder today when he officially signs a long-term contract with the Grizzlies. A moratorium on signing free agents to contracts ended at 11 p.m. CDT so Cardinal will lend his hard-nosed, energetic play to coach Hubie Brown's system. After spending the past four seasons as an unheralded journeyman, Cardinal and his skills found a home in Memphis where Brown is trying to make defense and hustle as popular as barbecue and Elvis.</div> http://www.commercialappeal.com/mca/grizzl...3034493,00.html
