Back in '03 before a game vs the Raptors at the ACC, Steve Nash told the Toronto press that he loved the idea of playing for the Raptors....Since half of Canada basketball fans were mavs fans, it would have only made sense for Babcock to at least make Nash an offer, after all, the Raps are in dire need of a Point guard. Sure, he may have signed Rafer Alston, but Alston flopped in Toronto after a short run in 2003, and is unproven as a starting PG, and for 41 million dollars, Toronto could have used that money to start on an offer to Canada's only all-star. oh well, i guess Canada will have many more phoenix suns fans by the start of the '04-05 season
First off Alston didn't get 41 Million, he got 29 Million over 6 years Second, Nash said his number 1 choice was Dallas ahead of any team. Phoenix gave him 65 Million so he signed. The raps couldn't give him that much, that most we could of gave him was the Mid-Level exception.
Uh I don't think the Raptors would have been able to match Phoenix' offer to him. Think about it: If Mark Cuban didn't want to match it, that tells you something about how ridiculous his contract is. And Banks3 is right about Alston's contract. He is signed to about 29 mil over 5 or 6 years. 41 million is just ludicrous for a player like that.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting bigballa:</div><div class="quote_post">if mark cuban couldn't resign nash what makes u think the raps can?</div> besides, nash clearly is on the downside of his career, in three years he will be relegated to the backup duties. i'm still furious at nash for not playing for canada in the qualifying tournament, screw cuban?s scorn. nash should have played.
