Looks like the Falcons are about to give Vick an extension that will give him more money than Peyton Manning. I dont know about you, but I would not sign a player that is not only inconsistent, but is also injured a lot. This could end up hurting the Falcons long term. Who knows, he can be the next Kordell Stewart.

Why not? He may be inconsistant now but with time he will only get better, I think its a good idea on the Falcons part. I like how Vick isnt all about his stats he only cares about the one stat and thats the W at the end of each game, and lets face it he wins games...every week he goes in to a game and inconsistant or not he finds a way to pull out the W in the end, most of the time.

As far as injured goes, yeah he's had issues with that in the past obviously with the broken leg and everything, but he's been fine this year and he started every game thus far, not supposed to start on Sunday though. Its because unlike most QBs when they take off running they slide or take it out of bounds, he actually takes the hits...not saying thats the smartest all the time, but sometimes its necessary to gain extra yards and make those plays for the team when they're needed.

He should've gotten a contract more of Chad Pennington ilk. He has not done enough yet to warrant the money he is getting. I am not saying he did not deserve an extension, just not for as much money.

The bottom line is that QBs need to be able to throw the ball and Vick hasn't proven that he can do that consistantly. My point will be made during the post season. The Falcons will face a team that will keep Vick's running in check and he'll have to throw the ball which will lead to disaster. Then, we'll see if ESPNinnies are still singing Vick's praises. Don't get me wrong. I would love to see Vick mature into a good passing QB. How special would he be? Right now, he has too many people patting his back and overlooking his inability to throw the ball. He needs someone to get in his face and push his to develop that part of his game.

He's a lot like Randal Cunningham was, only Randall was a much better passer. Randall never won a football game as an Eagle, cause defense stopped him scrambling in the playoffs. He had to wait till Minnesotta to learn how to be a packet passer, before he could win. Vick is all potential, and you never know.

They dont work on his passing enough I dont think, he's got a great arm, probably one of the strongest in the NFL today, accuracy and consistancy arent always there and I see that. They need to work on it more and I think he would just be incredible with the speed and scrambling ability hes got, then add on the fact that he can play as a pocket passer when needed and the strength of his arm, it would be insane. I cant wait to see him develop more as a QB and see just how great he could be in the future. Show people that even if he isnt worth that money now Vick will be in the future. I'm counting on it.

I think the owner thinks he is vicks dad, so it isnt so much a contract as an inheritance.

They are either going to be geniouses or complete morons. Big gamble if you ask me, but it could have a huge upside.

When was his current contract set to expire? If I were the GM, I would have gone for a three year extension and taken the "show me" approach. Vick hasn't shown enough, in my opinion, to warrant this kind of long term deal.

It's all a gamble. Who knows? Maybe someday he will be good. If he can't play QB, at least a seven year deal will lock up a solid running back or receiver for the duration. Assuming he doesn't pull a Kordell Stewart and say "I'm a quarterback, not a football player." Heh heh...

ESPN reported that he was an unrestricted free agent after this season, but I think thats wrong....there would have been so much hype if he was close to gewtting free....

No, he just reached the insentives in his contract that would let him void final two years and make him a free-agent. That's why there was not a lot of hoopla. Still though, you would think he would be a restricted free agent. I would let him test the market, and match the money. I doubt anyone would give him as much as the Falcons did, they kind of bid against themselves. Not that different when the Rangers wanted ARod.
