"When we look at Vlade," Maloof said Sunday, "it's not going to be an easy thing to do."

NBA sources indicate re-signing Divac will not be simple. The Kings, looking to keep an already high payroll under control, will have competition for his services.

what to do what to do.
on the one hand, the kings can surely use his services.
on the other, is he willing to come off the bench behind Miller? and can the kings afford to keep him in the first place? And what about looking to free agency to find a more athletic center to back Miller up?

If it were up to me (and Geoff has not called me to ask [IMG] ) I would go with the intangibles that Divac brings to the team and make every attempt to resign him

I agree. But he is old and we don't know how much more good years he has left in him. We should explore the market and see what other options we have.

i think thats part of the problem.
if you let him go, you are forced to look at the FA market & right now, the Kings dont have a lot of money to do that as they are already over the cap to begin the season (or at least they were last year, the year before and the year before that) without some good amounts of money to wave at someone, you are probably not going to get a lot from the market especially after most people have made their moves.

i will say however, the draft picks and one undrafted FA look look like they might be something worthwhile this year. John Edwards is no starter mind you but at 7' with a 7'4" wingspan he can block (got 2.2BPG) shoot (13.2PPG) and get some rebounds (6.7RPG) and was MAC defensive player of the year. all that in his Sr year which was the only year he started.
I doubt he is ever going to be on everyones "must have" list (or anyones for that matter) but the kid looks like he can be good enough to come off the bench in limited minutes. combine that with Kevin Martins much talked about defensive game (which I have yet to see) and it appears that the Kings may have gotten the message about defense.

i think they should try and keep divac. i don't think he will have a problem coming of the bench and he is an important team member on the bench and in the locker room as much as on the floor.
although i have heard rumours that the kings are looking into an alternative to divac in fabricio oberto from europe. here is just one link that suggests that.

i dont think they will go in that direction anymore with the signing of Edwards. the Kings need defense and with the draft picks they made and picking Edwards up, I think they realize this now.

If Divac can still play, let him play.I Like him,but i know he's not the player he was a long time ago,but he's a veteran, who can teach the youngsters a thing or 2,so he's actually still has value to the team, but i think this upcoming season should be his last, just my opinion

Found these comments at Hoops Hype.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"Phoenix also has inquired about unrestricted free agent Vlade Divac, 36. "I do think the Suns have an interest in Vlade, but it only makes sense if Quentin's deal is matched," said Divac's agent, Marc Fleisher. Phoenix signed rookie free-agent big men Jerry Holman of Minnesota and Arthur Johnson of Missouri to its summer roster. Assistant Marc Iavaroni called Holman, 6 feet 10 and 222 pounds, the most impressive new player in the first three days of summer camp." Arizona Republic

"The Lakers are considering offering their mid-level salary-cap exception, worth about $5 million, to free-agent center Vlade Divac." Orange County Register</div>

Personally, I would not mind the Suns...they have a promising team, but I sure hope he doesn't go to the Lakers. Ideally, he'll stay with the Kings.

Well..............Adelman (and Maloofs) is that much stupid they simply can't see his importance for the team and if they let him go he'll probably choose LA since he's been there and done that and it seems more reasonable but................tough

its not just a matter of seeing his importance. of course they see that.
but you are also talking about money. And right now, the kings have the fourth highest luxury tax in the NBA. you will never be able to get a big name free agent in the future if you can get your cap under control (unless you go by means of sign & trade which is something that doesnt always work)

lots more going on than just deciding if he is a good player or not

The Kings are a very calculating team. They have to be careful with the Money due to the luxury tax like you said above. The Maloofs are very aware of it,and are doing the best with what budget they have going for them, and another thing...they don't splurge just because they can like other teams in the NBA,there very careful about what's best for the organzation, and perhaps a lot of people don't like that fact, but there only being smart about running this team. The Maloofs should get credit for that!
