i searched for this but couldn't find it here, so i assumed noone started a thread about this, so i'll start one.

    most underrated player: scottie pippen.

talk about playing under someone's shadows, yeah he's one of the top 50, but didn't get the recognition he deserved IMO. IMO he was the obvious MVP choice in 1994 but didn't get it, he alsmost led the bulls to the finals, but losing to the knicks in a tough series and the biggest blown call over, him "fouling" hubert davis on a 3, and then he ends up making all three FT. clearly one of the top 5 greatest all-around players to play in the NBA.

    Not bad.

I'd go Bob Love, Chicago Bulls.

Jerry Sloan was another Bull that's underrated.

I'd also say Sam Cassell is underrated.

    Nick Van Exel, too.

Joe Dumars and Vinnie Johnson were underrated.

    Dennis Johnson.

    Paul Pressey.

    Bernard King.

    Michael Cooper.

    Tom Chambers.

    Xavier McDaniel.

    Dale Ellis.

I think Dominique got gypped on the Top 50.

    There are a ton.

Joe Dumars as a player (he gets plenty of recognition as a GM). He had no weaknesses offensively or defensively and he very well might have been the leader on the most mentality tough team that I have ever seen: the Chuck Daly coached Detroit Pistons.

John Stockton. One of the toughest players that I have ever seen. He never asked for the attention and that is probably one of the reasons why he is so underrated (or at least underappreciated). He's maybe the greatest point guard ever. Even though he is a hall of famer and a dream teamer I think that his legacy should be that of a Magic Johnson or Isiah Thomas (even though he didn't win a title). A true embassador of the game.

Bernard King was a solid post. I dont think Sam Cassell is undratted, at least not among me and most of my bball people. Cassell is right up there behind Kid (tops in the league).

    Today:

I think Kukoc is an underrated player (granted, defensively he's awful), Jason Terry, Quentin Richardson, Carlos Boozer, Kirilenko and Harpring.

rik smits for back then, and chris anderson for today. pippen is not underrated, hes overrated IMO... people say he almost made the finals, but it was only the semi-finals of the conference playoffs he led the team to. and he took himself out of a game. He might be the greatest second fiddle player ever... but he's had his shots at titles w/out jordan and could never do it. He had barkley and dream in houston, and had a STACKED team in portland which he could not lead no where. Sure he took the bulls farther than people expected, but he had a group of players around him who just came off winning 3 titles and really meshed together well. Definitely not a top 5 player... top 50, maybe, but i wouldnt even put him in my top 20 or 25.

I agree completely. I've always respected the hell out of Rose's game, but some might say he's overrated (because of the contract).
I think utilized properly, like Bird did in Indiana, Rose is one of the top-25 players in the league.
