<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Birdman33:</div><div class="quote_post">Jerry Sloan was another Bull that's underrated. I'd also say Sam Cassell is underrated. Nick Van Exel, too. Joe Dumars and Vinnie Johnson were underrated. Dennis Johnson. Paul Pressey. Bernard King. Michael Cooper. Tom Chambers. Xavier McDaniel. Dale Ellis. I think Dominique got gypped on the Top 50. There are a ton.</div> Well, birdman you def have some nice choices here that I agree with.... 1st lets start with the older cats you have on your list..... Jerry Sloan, well I dont know much about the Bulls from the 60'-70' when Sloan was playing off the top of my head. But from what I do know they were a pretty bad team like 30-35 before they got Bob Love & Chet Walker. And once they got those 2 Jerry Sloans role started to decrease,if Iam correct. So Jerry Sloan is more associated with being a leader on the bad bulls. So thats probably why he didnt get the respect he desevred as a player. Dennis Johnson mental impact on the Celtics is probably, what was most underratted about him. He was the on-court brians behind KC Jones' schemes, similar to what Avery Johnson was for the Spurs in the 90's under Bob Hill and Greg Pop in 99 when they won the chip. Its hard to truely access, how important those type of cats are because they are so rare. After the 80'-90's their havent been alot of point guards that can truely orchestrate an offense. I mean their have been plenty of PG's with great assist stats over the years but very few that really run an offense properly. Micheal Cooper simply underatted because he played on a team with Magic, Kareem, & Jamaal Wiks and then Worthy & Byron Scott came thats way to much star power for Coop to get his true respect all the credit is going to those guys. If you ask the casual basketball fan, they probably remember Coop ,for getting banged on by Dr.Jay with possibly on of the greats moves of all-time then his actual roleon LA. Joe Dumars suffers from a similar fate, he played in the backcourt with Zeke. Zeke stardom overwhelms the effort that Joe D. With all those out going personalities like Bill Lambieer, D Rodman, Rick Mahorn.Joe D was considered to be the quiet all-star which didnt allow the proper attention to go toward his game because people where distracted by the other crazy characers on the Bad Boys. The thing I loved about Joe D, was he was always able to do his dirt(especially agianst MJ) but always come looking like the nice guy in the eyes of most. X-man is underatted because after he left the Sonics, he spent the rest of his career being a dirty work player. And every dirty worker player is pretty much underatted, when you look back on it, Charles Oakley on the Knicks, Buck Williams on the Nets etc the list goes on. Otis Thorpe is the king of this because of all the dirty work he did alongside Dream in the late 80'-early 90's. He never got the credit he deserved as a dirty work & complementry player on the Rockets. Dale Ellis & Tom Chambers are both similiar in the fact that they played for so long but their careers seem like they faded away toward because of injuries toward the end so people dont really remember them with the Sonics in the 80's. people probably remember Dale Ellis as a spot up shooter on the Spurs with D.Rob and then with the Nuggets. And people remember Tom Chambers for his days with the Suns(after Barkley got there) and In Utah toward the end of his career with Malone & Stockton. But his best days were with the Sonics & Suns before Charles, before he became a role player. Iam not for sure If I would consider VJ underatted per say. I mean I always here people giving Vinnie credit for his overall offensive ablity to score so easily. I will say they dont give him a enuff credit as a jumpershooter. All the footage I see of his early days with Detroit his mid-range jumper was stuck on automatic but he wasnt a long range shooter. Bernard King is a legend no doubt about that, and him being left off the 50 greatest list of all-time for people like Bill Walton & unproven Shaq at the time was kind of disappointing. But when you are comparing him to the wing forwards from around his area, like Adrian Dantley, Dr.J & Iceman around the same time. They were always on teams that won alot of games. Bernard King with the execption of the Knicks wasnt really on teams that won alot, the Nets,Bullets & Warriors were always below average to average. So I think people take away a little bit from Bernard's career because of that. Nique' suffers because of the Jordan effect. Everything he did Jordan did a little bit better & a little bit more of. So all the scoring titles & things he would have won if MJ wasnt around would have help people understand how truely great of an offensive force Nique' was in the 80'-early90'. Plus everybody loves to compare him & MJ against each other which really hurts Nique because MJ was the better all-round player. Nique' merits on Defense & playmaking skills couldnt compare to MJ. Ricky Pierce is pretty much the same,he never did the playmaking or rebounding that the other top perimeter players like Clyde & MJ did. But I will say this nobody will probably average 20+ off the bench like he did with the Bucks that season, ever again. Rickey Pierce use to put up fantasy scoring # off the bench with the Bucks in the late 80's. Van Exel is underatted because of his attiude over the years its held people back from noticing how good of a player he is, he always bumps heads with coaches But Van Exel since his LA days has always been one of the best point guards with the game on the line & in big situations. But sometimes it seems like he stops caring. Now on to my boy, Sammy's attuide is part of the reason why he hasnt gotten the respect he has deserved in his 11 season in the league. Its no secret that Cassell has bumped heads with plenty coaches from John Calapari to Coach Karl, he does his share of antics on the court. But Sam since taken over the starting job in 97' for the Nets has been a top pg in this league unquestioned. I mean you got cats like Marbury & Davis who have had excellent years these past few season but they dont have the longivety of Sam & the track record of consistenly making teams better everywhere he goes. Once Rod Strickland fell off in 98' Sam stepped right in and filled his shoes as the most underatted pg over the last decade. Anyway once again good list I agree with all these players beginnig underratted to a certain degree. ,Iam not forsure about your current players tho..... Troy Hudson & Flip Murray seem like one hit(or one season/series)wonders to me. And Al Harrington is still got alot of upside a head of him but right now a bit to inconsistent to be considered underatted and Brent Barry is a nice player but he has been in the league for about a decade & never proven himself when it counts in the playoffs. And RJ is coming so, I wouldnt say he was ever underatted, he is more of a draft day miss Q by the rockets.
Darius Washington <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Birdman33:</div><div class="quote_post">World's my screen saver.</div> I think now college basketball player darius Washington is underrater straight up
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Henacy:</div><div class="quote_post">Troy Hudson & Flip Murray seem like one hit(or one season/series)wonders to me.</div> I'm going to hold you to this quote. I'm guessing that at some point during this upcoming season you will want this statement off of the records.
People think Jason Richardson can only dunk, but he can also shoot, pass, and rebound. He is better than Troy Hudson and Ronald Murray. Most overrated: Kurt "the Knocka" Thomas and all the knockas

Jason Terry and Stephen Jackson. A lot of people just see them as Hawks so they automatically suck. Theyre 2 very talented players.
