I had recently made a list of free agents formerly playing in the NBA last season (doesn't include NBA vets who went unsigned, Euro players who are available, CBA/NBDL players, or undrafted players. There are a lot of players out there that we could fit under the exception. For cheap vets, I like Jon Barry, Travis Best, Lindsay Hunter, and Ron Mercer (not on this list). For young players, I like Tremaine Fowlkes, Zeljko Rebraca, and Steven Hunter. <u>Unrestricted List:</u> <strike>G Rafer Alston</strike> - signed by Tor, 6 years, $29 million <strike>G Kenny Anderson</strike> - signed by Atl C Robert Archibald <strike>G Brandon Armstrong</strike> - Signed by GS <strike>G Carlos Arroyo</strike> - resigned by Utah, 4 years, $16 million <strike>G Stacey Augmon</strike> - signed by Orl <strike>F Vin Baker</strike> - resigned by NY F Matt Barnes G Dana Barros <strike>G Brent Barry</strike> - signed by SA, 4 years, $22 million <strike>G Jon Barry</strike> - signed by Atl F Lonny Baxter <strike>G Travis Best</strike> - signed by NJ <strike>F Corey Benjamin</strike> - signed by Cha F Corie Blount <strike>C Mark Blount</strike> - resigned by Bos, 6 years, $42 million C Ruben Boumtje Boumtje <strike>F Bruce Bowen</strike> - resigned by SA, 3 years, $12 million <strike>F Ryan Bowen</strike> - signed by Hou <strike>F Michael Bradley</strike> - signed by Orl <strike>G Kobe Bryant</strike> - resigned by LAL, 7 years, $136 million G J.R. I wouldn't mind signing Loren Woods, Toni Kukoc, and Chris Mihm if we had the chance, I like Kukoc alot!!!
Mihm is currently being chased by the Lakers and the Hawks. Woods is playing for the Grizz summer league; he hasn't been the same player he was before his injury, but I still have confidence. Kukoc is probably too expensive now without a sign-and-trade, since we filled up our MLE. We have to do some scrounging for a diamond-in-the-rough, essentially. This list hopefully can show what kind of players we might consider. Another reason for this list is to point out relative worths.
Here are my diamonds in the rough ... Darvin Ham He could fill the void left by Brian Cardinal. Ham is a great leaper and hustles to all the lose balls. He has never been able to score, but he can get the Warriors second chance opportunities and be a defensive stopper off the bench. Steven Hunter He was a bust for the Magic, but I saw him play live against the Lakers a couple of seasons ago. Hunter does have some tools to work with, and actually did a decent job against Shaq in the first quarter. I think he lost confidence in his game when the Magic started losing, but he's an athletic big man, with a natural instinct to block shots. He runs the floor very well, but he needs to improve his rebounding fundamentals. He kept trying to rebound with just one hand instead going straight up with both hands and securing the ball. He also has a bad habit of bringing the ball down low after he rebounds instead of clearing space with is elbows from lurking guards. I think with the proper coaxing and hard work, he could be a sleeper for any NBA team. He just needs to find his confidence again and let the game come to him instead of pushing the issue. Tremaine Fowlkes I used to watch Fowlkes play at Cal Berkeley, and followed him even after he left to play for Fresno State. He had a short stint with the Clippers and has always been a player I wish succeeded in the NBA. He's a phenomenal athlete with a knack for getting to the rim, but he's never been able to put the entire package together. I doubt he could make the Warriors roster, but he would be fan favorite and a solid player for practices. Rodney White I'm surprised Rodney White has not been signed yet. He's become a consistent scorer in the league and a lot of teams could use help off the bench with a player capable of scoring double figures each night. Zeljko Rebraca Zelly is a servicable center, but his heart conditions have to be a concern for any team considering him. He can score inside and rebound, nothing spectacular, but good enough to be a solid back up. Dion Glover I like Glover's game a lot because of his versatility. He rebounds very well for a guard and can score from all over the court. He has the complete game, but he needs to learn to take higher percentage shots and his consistency isn't there yet. The Warriors are set at the guard spot, but if they do end up trading NVE, J-Rich, or Pietrus, Glover might be a good option to consider.
^ I think your post burped at the end there, shapecity. I totally agree with the players you listed. And, I suppose my suggested veteran 3rd string point guards shouldn't be needed anymore with the recent Fisher signing. All of these bubble-players tend to have great skills, but are missing that something - basketball IQ? Luck, maybe? Court awareness? I'm not sure. Fowlkes has always been at the cusp and since the Warriors need a backup SF, even if he didn't get many minutes, it'd be great to have a young player with his skills. Hunter also has the same problem - great skills, questionable mental makeup. Athletic, a bit light, but not too much so, and still very young. If he'd just change a few things, like you said, he'd be a much better player. I put down Rebraca as a young player even though he's 32. A bit late to realize his NBA dream, but he could be a solid player in the post. Ham is a great player to watch. Just like Cardinal, he'd fill in the PF/SF spot. Not much on the numbers, but he's been around the lague for a reason, which is his work ethic. I never want to see him shoot the rock, though. I think White might a tiny bit above what we can afford, unless he's considering few deals, or is waiting to make sure he gets a good deal of minutes. I think he would get bottom-end rotation minutes on the W's. His naysayers always knock his IQ and defense, but he was so highly touted as a draft pick, and he's shown more than flashes of his skills.

Shape, I'm in the same boat as Zhone with regards to those selections. I don't think I'd really want Rodney White though. But the W's will need some scorers. I'd figure Rebraca could put a few, Fowlkes could be an inside outside guy and score some points, but he'll be the scrappy player that will play defense and fight for the ball (which I like). Ham is another hustle guy (without a perimeter shot) but his size at pf really hurts him. Hunter I would take a chance on only because he's young. He's kind of been a bust and is underweight for what I'd be looking for. (Athletic small forwards that can play defense or really big centers that can protect the paint)
Hey does anybody know if that guy on the And 1 mixtape tour "Hotsauce" is trying to go to the nba, or is he stuck with And 1? Although I don't think he would produce much in the nba, it would still be fun to watch him do a couple of crossovers or maybe that other guy "Professor", I dunno, maybe I should just leave street to street and the nba to nba. You gotta admit, he does nice crossovers, actually both of them do!
I always wondered how those type of players would fair in the NBA. My guess is that will real defense on them they couldn't do squat.
Damon Jones showed some promise when T.J. ford went out, he would be a very nice pick-up. The Bucks really need to resign him.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Rudeezy:</div><div class="quote_post">I always wondered how those type of players would fair in the NBA. Whatever happened to Shawn Lampley, I liked him alot till he got let go, then i was disapointed. Is he a free agent, he seemd like he was doing great, the dunking off his just turns me off because he sometimes misses or it bonks, but he was a good rebounder and would have exceld if we would have kept him instead of popey jones, do we still have him? man he didn't do squat but nurse his injury until almost the end of the season.
I was always a Sean Lampley fan, as well. Even Muss gave him the thumbs up by letting him play important crunch-time minutes. He was signed to two 10-day contracts last season, mostly when our roster was decimated. His height/speed probably was the main problem, it's hard being a 6'6 SF.

I was hoping we could sign him again, this time for about 2 years.

He has hops for a white guy, and he was dunking champion in HS, he would make a great sub, is he a free agent or still in skool?

He's a true professional off the bench, but he's got very little to work with in terms of his skills/size at the small forward position. If he was at least 6'9 we could use him because he's got great footwork for a low post scorer and then he'd be able to play some power forward. He is the Bears all-time leading scorer I think.

Look at the majority of the athletic players that end up playing overseas or in the NBDL because they were nothing but athletes and that was all. This is basketball, not track and field. And also Coldsauce, for future postings, please make sure you try and least describe from your observations and what other aspects of a player's game make him a candidate for the NBA or on the Warriors roster other than having hops or being a dunking champion in high school. It's just leaves others asking why? Or it just makes it seems like a terrible suggestion (No offense). You gotta try and fill out your posts a little more so that those unfamilar with those players (Like David Lee) can understand where you're coming from based on your observations and opinons. I'm not trying to rip on you, btw, I'm just letting you know it's kind of annoying to have you write something and not be able to understand where you are coming from. So please elaborate as much as possible using statistics, descriptions and observations of his game, or NBA comparrisons on how or why this guy would make an impact in the league or on our team. Thanks. Your posts are always welcome btw. I'm just letting you know I was confused why David Lee was your choice of a bench player because to me it looked like you were only basing it on his athleticism or that one creative dunk that he did to win the high school contest in 2001(?) where he bounces the ball, takes his shirt off, does a carthweel, and dunks it two handed while catching in in the air off the same bounce. Just make sure you elaborate (but don't overelaborate like me sometimes).

Zelly I was really big on but what is the status of his heart condition right now. He was only in 24 games last season or something. He might just have to retire because of this if its going to threaten his life.
