What would you give up for Payton and Fox in a S&T Since Payton and Fox are in their last year of contracts, they both add up to about 10-11 million in salary cap relief which is good for any team. This may sound appealing to some teams but Im just curious to see what you guys would do to get fox and payton. I wish Payton and Fox would be in a S&T to golden state for dampier and next year the warriors woudl have around 10 million under the cap to spend on someone. Wat would you guys do?
I think maybe trading them to Cleveland for Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Dujan Wagner would be a good deal...for both teams!
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I think maybe trading them to Cleveland for Zydrunas Ilgauskas </div> I doubt LAL wants Big Z. He's in worse physical shape than Shaq is, in terms of chronic injuries, particularly his foot. Plus, while compared to Shaq's, it's not that big, his contract carries some heft to it.
I don't think they'd have enough money to do that. Plus, as a Lakers fan, I wouldn't want it. I personally, don't like Vince Carter at all. He's injury prone and, overall, I don't think he's all that good. He's sub par on defense and he's got a descent jump shot. Plus, like I just said, for only $10-11 mil, that's a lot of contracts to pick up and it's probably way too much money. Might be too much from Carter's contract alone. Not sure though. But, yea don't, want that. The Lakers will already have enough offensive wing talent assuming Kobe comes back, so, they could just leave that impossible thought alone.
Question is, who the hell would want both players? Fox did buck shiet during the season and Payton showed in the Playoffs (Finals in particular) he's on the other side of the hill this late in his career.
Fox didn't show up cause he was injured for most of the season. Payton did play like crap in the playoffs, but, his season numbers weren't bad. The only thing I don't like about Payton is the way he whines when he isn't getting playing time. He doesn't think that he's getting reduced playing time because he's playing like crap. That's what I didn't like. But, yea, Fox, he was hurt. Payton just didn't show up in the playoffs, but, neither did Fox.
To the Grizz for J-Will and Lo Wright. Wright is a decent center and J Will could work good for you guys. It would give us GP who can be a veteran leader and Fox who can fill it up from the outside, also if we needed too we could drop off Mike Miller or Bonzi in the trade!
I don't think other teams would give up the players that you guys were saying above both of them for real good players, no team is going to do that.
That would be a horrible trade for anyone but the Lakers. Fox has already said he won't play for anyone but the Lakers, and if he did get traded he would just retire. Unless he's changed his mind recently I don't see anyone ever offering to take Fox.

Payton I think still has some game...I think playing with the lakers under Phil Jackson really hurt his game becuase he was not "THE MAN" that he was so used to when he played with the sonics but can still produce in the right situation. A good example of my point is Antoine Walker. Dallas knows that he is in the last year of his contract which makes him attractive if the other team is forced to do a sign and trade. U know someone would take up his contract because he only has 1 year left and after next season he would free up around 14 million in cap space for the team that accepts him. His game has fallen ever since he left Boston. Also the lakers with the shaq trade pending will no doubt can't wait until brian grant's hideous contract is up so that they can get rid of him and have about 13 million of cap space to use on a good free agent to help Kobe.

They can get back Fox's salary and use it on someone useful. I don't see why the new team's management would care about this. An example is the lakers. You think the lakers would mind if Payton wanted a buyout of his contract so that the lakers can use the mid-level exception on someone else perhaps fisher. I think the lakers would be more than willing to buyout his contract.
The problem is, they are still paying that money. It's not like Fox retires (or Payton gets a buyout) and the Lakers (or whichever team) suddenly gets that money. That still goes against their cap space. Basically they would be paying for a player that never suited up.

Obviously cap space is important to attract big free agents. But to your point about buyout contract. Yes the lakers still ahve to pay payton even though he doesnt play for the lakers but they can retrieve at least part of the money to get more cap space. Read this maybe this can clarify the situation. Tell me how you interpret what it means. Im still trying to figure it out. http://www.fullsportpress.com/salarycapfaq.html Look at question or points 57 and 58.
Yeah, they can gain some cap space room, but depends on how much they negotiate for the buyout. 5.4 mill isn't much cap space in the first place, and I can't see GP agreeing to much of a cut. But if he really wants to go, then he'll have to sacrifice some cash. I think the Lakers will try and trade him before they do a buyout. EDIT: That's a cool site btw. Thanks for the link!
Why not try to keep Fox around and use his cap space for the Lakers next year, no need to take on a player and a longer contract whil;e giving the expiring contract up? Keep the expiring contract for next off-season, Cap relief is something the Lakers havent had in years they should be looking to make some cap friendly moves with Shaq gone.
the sonics should give up radmodivich and potapenko and jerome james or calvin booth cause hes way over payed
Payton and Fox? I dunno, not too much, Fox isn't too much anymore, and even though Payton is good I wouldn't give up young talent for him
