This one has been talked about around the traps and is essentially:

    Ray Allen to Portland
    Shareef Abdur-Rahim to Cleveland
    Zydrunas Ilgauskas to Seattle

All players are in the last year of their contract next year. Now, obviously we're giving up the most quality in the deal, giving rise to the possibility of dishing off James/Booth and/or receiving young players and draft picks. It also would mean that Flip Murray is solidified as our starting 2, and we actually have a presentable starting line-up.

Uh...no. You're basically trading eight points and five assists a game for three rebounds and one block. Big Z isn't going to add anything to the defense. So what's the point? Not to mention there would be five centers on the roster, which is two or three too many.

The team needs low post scoring, but I don't think that trade is worth it. I'd rather have Abdur-Rahim. He'll score and rebound more.

Disagree. We both know that Flip can step right in and put up numbers in the vicinity of what Ray gives us. So all we're doing is clearing a log-jam and gaining a center for next season.

James or Booth would be part of the deal, so we'd have four, which I see as acceptable when one is a project.

Is that really going to aid Nick Collison's development... or more to the point, would you see a SAR/Potapenko (with Collison off the bench) more potent than Collison/Ilgauskas?

If we could nab a first rounder or offload James or Booth in the deal, I'm all for it. Straight up I'd be hesitant though.

I'd rather have Abdur-Rahim with Nick coming off the bench, because Shareef's contract is up at the end of the season, meaning we can let him go if we need to or resign him if we need to. That money, combined with Potapenko (who would be easy to resign unless somebody overpays) and James leaving would free up a lot of cap room.

Yes, Ilgauskas' deal is up next year, too, but if Collison doesn't turn out like he's expected to do we're screwed unless a good power forward is a free agent, which rarely happens these days. If Collison doesn't turn out and we have Shareef, we have the option of resigning him.

But, hell, if we get rid of Booth...I'm all for it.

Not a bad trade proposal. Big Z is a top four center in the league and it could possibly give us more cap space if Booth is involved. If the rumors are true than I would definitely give the deal some serious thought.

I don't like the deal for the Sonics...Ilgauskas' foot can give at any time, and Ray Allen is one of the top 2 guards in the league...If I were to trade Allen, I'd look for more of a sure thing...

Fair point, but there are a few other things to consider:

    1) If the Sonics can include Booth in the deal, it's a get out of jail free card in regards to the last two years of his horrible contract.

    2) It's also a money saver in the sense that Ray Allen wants a maximum extension on his contract, which means we would be paying him top dollar until his mid thirties. For a guy with a history of knee and ankle problems, that's not ideal.

    3) Seattle have a guy in Flip Murray who has shown he can perform as a starter at this level. While he's not Ray Allen, gaining a legitimate inside presence softens the blow considerably.

Bottom line for me is I only do this deal if Booth is involved, but if he is the positives IMO outweigh the negatives.
