"Without a doubt I'm serious (about the Spurs)," Malone said by phone Monday evening. "I'm past the game-playing. It's not like going to college and you want to talk to every team interested. That's not my intention. If I want to continue to play I'd definitely like to be closer to back home."

"I've had serious dialogue with them, and more than once," Malone said. "I've talked to coach (Gregg) Popovich two or three times and (general manager) R.C. (Buford) one or two times. They call about every other day. I've had great dialogue with them."

Karl Malone and Gary Payton really have shown a lot of disrespect this summer. Gary Payton had the chance to be a free agent but he made the choice to not opt out and stayin LA(Shaq was demanding a trade while this was happening) Karl Malone said he wanted to retire a Laker. I really find it pathetic when a player has to sign with the champinship front runners each year to try and get a ring. Thats pathetic Karl. I had more respect for you. [IMG]

    whos cares about respect.

Karl man i believe hes played his heart out he deserves a ring.

I believe you shoulnt hate on the man for teying all that he can to get one.

He's old about to retire he cant really be as productive as past. I truly believe hes lucky if these teams sign him to play with them anyway.

I mean hes proved thats hes a good player to them

And the GP thing i believe he and karl signed with the lakers to play with shaq.

No Karl doesnt play his hart out because if
he did he would have played game 5

Its sad to see players jump from team to team
i think if Malone does leave he should go back to where
he started,If he stayed then maybe the would be in a
    hunt next year.

I have alot of respect for Sam Perkins,John Stockton
they retired without a ring but with alot of respect from
    true NBA fans.

Malone needs to hang it up [IMG]

    Two words: Reggie Miller.

You can stay loyal to a team and still try to get a ring.

Rings don't make a player, just ask Charles Barkely or John Stockon.

Maybe, but the injury plague has hit him pretty good.

Anyhow, I already had no respect for the guy, and now this just makes things worse. He's going from one contender to another, not cool. :thumbsdow

This is getting out of hand. Karl shoulda stayewd in Utah for another 2 years. Karl watned to win a ring, these no sham ein that, but hte way he went by it is just shameufl.

Karl may be one of th ebest and is most definitely a hall of famer but he needs to know when to quit. I've lost alot of respect for Malone. He may deserve the ring, but the rings don't make the man

Ok, this is sad. First Malone wants to retire a Laker. Now he wants to go to a title contender again. This really pisses me off. I'm beginning to lose any respect I've ever had for both him and Payton. Each want out of Los Angeles to go to a contender. Neither of them have any type of confidence in the Lakers chances next season. It's pathetic. Jumping from one contender to another. If they each do this, I hope to god next year the Lakers surprise everyone and win the title. It'll prove that Kobe can lead a team for one, and, it'll be a huge slap in the face to Karl and Gary. That, to me, would be a twofold victory right there. Win the title and than smack two future hall of famers in the face for doubting you. That'd be great.

    Your post is quite idiotic.
    - Hows Karl Malone a biotch.
    - The guy comes from a time where b-ball was rough. Rmember the Bad Boy Pstons? In his time there were no people like Vlade Divac who get fouls called against him cuz they faked it. It was much rougher then people need to get that straight.
    - Whats so bad about his attitdued? I think yours is a lot worse.
    - So he sucks lets go thorugh his list of accomplishments

-Selected in 1996 as one of the "50 Greatest Players in NBA History"

    -Three-time NBA All-Defensive First Team selection (1996-97, 1997-98 and 1998-99) and a 1987-88 NBA All-Defensive Second Team selection

-Fourteen-time NBA All-Star selection who played in 12 games (missed 1990 game due to injury and the 2002 game due to family illness), including 10 consecutive contests from 1991 to 2001

-Named MVP of the 1989 All-Star Game in Houston after registering 28 points and nine rebounds, and named co-MVP with teammate John Stockton of the 1993 All-Star Game in Salt Lake City after tallying 28 points and 10 rebounds

-Holds the NBA record most consecutive seasons scoring 2,000 or more points (11, 1987-88 to 1997-98) and shares the record with Michael Jordan for most career 2,000 point seasons (11, 1987-88 to 1997-98)

-Tied Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (17) for most consecutive seasons scoring at least 20.0 points per game (17, 1986-87 to 2002-03)

-Scored a career-high 61 points, the most by a Jazz player since the franchise moved to Utah, against the Milwaukee Bucks on 1/27/90

-Passed Moses Malone (8,531) to become the NBA's all-time leader in free throws made on 3/24/01 vs. the Washington Wizards

-Became the all-time leader in free throws attepmted on 12/10/01 against the Mavericks

-Ranks second all-time in field-goals made with 13,335 behind only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (15,837)

-Notched his third career triple-double with game-highs of 29 points (11-13 FG) and 12 rebounds, and 10 assists, in a 99-82 win over the L.A. Clippers on 5/4/99; recorded his second career triple-double with 32 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists against the Toronto Raptors on 2/27/97

So tell me how does he suck? If thats what you calll suck your whole grizzlie roster sux.

Also you cant blame the guy for wanting a ring. I notice most people in here are Laker fans. Theyre just pissed off cuz hes leaving. I personally hope he leaves goes to join Shaq in the HEat. I mean we all know how Shaqs a goood recruiter.

    Agreed.

Karl doesn't deserve a ring. He needs to earn one and he's had plenty of chances with the Jazz and even this year in LA.

Personally, I don't want Karl in SA. Logically, he could help the Spurs but still... :thumbsdow

Realistically, is he really a better option than re-signing Robert Horry? Is he a better option than persisting with Malik Rose and giving him more opportunities? The Spurs have their megastar franchise player, they have their above average roleplayers, I don't think it makes a lot of sense adding a 40 year old guy who couldn't play out the finals because of injury.

That and I want to be unobtruded on rooting for Bones to get a ring [IMG]

this is just sad. sure the man is worthy of greatness, but that's what the hall of fame is for. you don't have to win a ring to be considered great and what he's done last season was somewhat accepted in conjunction with gary payton and all, but this is just plain sad.

Normally I would say Karl is a bandwagoner, but if you watched the laker games last yer you would see him busting his a** out there, this is a guy who can contribute to any team he plays for. If he was a 3 minute a game bench warmer or a lazy player I could see him catching criticism, do I think he is a better option than Horry, Rose Um YES!
