The Grizzlies beat the NBA Stars team yesterday, 99-79, in the Southern California Summer Pro League. The NBA Stars team featured David West, J.R. Smith, Dennis Rodman (DNP), Tim Pickett, and Randy Holcomb.

    Boxscore

    Grizz Top 3 Performers
    Dahntay Jones - 22min, 25 points (8-13 fg), 2 steals, 1 block
    Andre Emmett - 31 min, 14 points (5-15 fg), 10 rebounds, 3 assists
    Cedric Henderson - 29 min, 13 points (6-11 fg), 4 rebounds, 2 blocks

    Big Grizz Dissapointment
    Ansu Sesay - 28 min, 6 points (3-6 fg), 5 rebounds, 1 assist

I was really impressed by Dahntay Jones' line. That kid's going to be special. Andre Emmett on the other hand had a great line, but his field goal percentage was awful. I don't quite understand how he could have shot that bad.

The Grizzlies' summer league team was blown out by the New York Knicks' summer league team yesterday, 95-72, in the Southern California Summer Pro League. The New York Knicks Team features Demarr Johnson, Andre Barrett, Brett Nelson, Trevor Ariza, Mike Sweetney, Zach Marbury, Justin Hamilton, and former Grizzlie Cezary Trybanski.

    Boxscore

    Grizz Top 3 Performers
    Dahntay Jones - 36 minutes, 15 points (5-14 fg), 4 rebounds, 2 steals
    Andre Emmett - 30 minutes, 15 points (5-11 fg), 1 rebound, 1 assist
    Antonio Burks - 30 minutes, 12 points (3-14 fg), 2 assists, 2 steals

    Big Grizz Dissapointment
    Cedric Henderson - 19 min, 4 points (2-8 fg), 3 rebounds, 2 turnovers

By looking at the box, I get the impression that the Grizzlies were downright pathetic in this game. The "Grizz Top 3 Performers" didn't even have good games. In fact, they all shot a combined 27%. The team wasn't much better though, as the Grizz collectively shot 32%. Cedric Henderson really dissapointed me as well. He was coming off of a real powerful performance in game one. Oh well, the Knicks were a very loaded team. I could see 6-7 of those Knicks players making an NBA roster next year.

For some reason, the website with the boxscores isn't updating the Grizzlies games. Although, Grizzlies.Com provided us with this brief bit of information.

Quote:

Grizzlies Beat Spurs, 80-76

Long Beach, CA, July 16, 2004 --The Grizzlies? Dahntay Jones led the team to its second win with 22 points, four rebounds and four assists. Andre Emmett added 12 points, and Cordell Henry of Marquette tossed in 10 points and provided four assists. Despite their loss, the Spurs had five players score in double digits:

Jones is impressing the hell out of me. As soon as he gets some playing time, he's going to impress many people. I think Emmett's doing pretty solid now as well, but he's not doing nearly as well as Jones.

The boxscore website still isn't showing Grizzlies boxscores. Here is what Grizzlies.Com gave us this time -

Quote:

Grizzlies Top Warriors, 80-74

Long Beach, Calif., July 18, 2004 ? The Memphis Grizzlies? President of Basketball Operations Jerry West and the Golden State Warriors? Head Coach Mike Montgomery each signed the requisite round of autographs and greeted ? and were enthusiastically greeted by ? the fans streaming through the Cal State Long Beach Pyramid on Sunday afternoon. But it was the second week of the 35th Annual Southern California Summer Pro League, after all, and both men quickly got down to the business of watching their teams go head-to-head on the court.

The Grizzlies ultimately triumphed over the Warriors, with Andre Emmett scoring 22 points and going 5-of-5 from the free-throw line. Dahntay Jones and Ryan Humphrey each added 17 points to the victory.

The usual suspects did well. Still no surprises. The Grizzlies are 3-1, have three games left, and play the Los Angeles Lakers next tomorrow.

I don't think the summer league box scores mean very much.

Bo Outlaw once scored 37 points in a summer league game.

    Yeah.

Ehh, looks like Emmett needs to improve on his shooting. A combined 10/26 in Summer League games isn't going to help your reputation.

Once again we have no boxscore for the game, but the Grizzlies lost to the Lakers by three points, 106-103. This was the Lakers' last summer league game.

Quote:

Lakers Defeat Grizzlies 106, 103

Long Beach, CA, July 20, 2004-- The Los Angeles Lakers decided to make their final game of the 2004 Southern California Pro League a nail biter, waiting until there were six minutes left in the fourth to tie the score with the Memphis Grizzlies after being behind the entire game. Nate Johnson hit two free throws to pull the score to 87 even, and after Marcus Douthit grabbed a rebound from the Grizzlies? possession, Tony Bobbitt nailed a three-pointer to put them ahead. But before the crowd?s cheering could fade, the Grizzlies? Dahntay Jones offered up a slam dunk that reminded the Pyramid crowd that the battle wasn?t over. As possessions alternated, so did the lead, with free throws providing key points in the final two minutes. With the score tied at 100 and 23.5 seconds left, the Grizzlies? Jaron Brown fouled the Lakers? Nate Johnson. Johnson hit both free throws, while in the final seconds the Grizzlies? Jones missed two free throws.

Johnson and Douthit led the Lakers in scoring, with Johnson in 26 points and Douthit adding 21. Douthit also grabbed seven boards, had three assists, three blocked shots and one steal. Bobbitt contributed 19 points, while Sasha Vujacic had nine points, seven assists and four steals. For the Grizzlies, Dahntay Jones led scoring with 29 points, six rebounds and three assists. Andre Emmett added 25 points and had five rebounds and four steals.

The game was punctuated by a special halftime presentation by the Lakers and the Grizzlies. United States Army Chief Warrant Officer Juan Beltran was honorably discharged from the Army on Tuesday after recently serving in Iraq during Operation Freedom. Chief Warrant Officer Beltran had been sent to Iraq in March. As the pilot of an Apache helicopter, Beltran was on a mission near Baghdad when his helicopter was shot down. Beltran was rescued by Army personnel but suffered severe spinal chord injuries and is now paralyzed from the waist down. He faces the likelihood that he may never walk again but remains optimistic and thankful for the opportunity to serve his country.
