Why would the Grizz do that Shane Battier has a great career ahead of him and Mashburn is past his prime and injury prone.
The cap in the trade doesn't even work. Maybe if you add the right fillers to make the trade work, ie: Outlaw or/and Wright, then it would work. Minus the cap problems, I'd love this trade for Memphis. If New Orleans is really having problems with Mashburn, then I could see them doing this trade. They'd get free cap space if Outlaw is included, and they'd get a player with the potential to be better than Mashburn in Battier.
the hornets are having HUGE problems w/ mash------he wont even answer the hornets new coach (byron scott) phone calls

I think that Hubie and Jerry are past that character development stage. They've changed Williams, Wells, and even Swift to an extent. However, they don't have to deal with that anymore. Shane Battier may not be as talented as Jamal Mashburn (although that's arguable). The one thing Shane Battier brings you that Mashburn doesn't though is the neverending dedication to the franchise as well as one of the most solid work ethics in the NBA. He is one of the NBA's three or four nicest and most genuine players in the NBA, and that's what the Grizzlies are looking for. That's why you see them bring in hardworking players with good character like Battier, Outlaw, Cardinal, Posey, Watson, and Jones.
