December? No...Shaq was back in the lineup earlier than that, because he was out for two games for a strained calf muscle also, and he came back from that on November 28th. He only missed 15 games total this last season. And, like I said before, you can't carry a team that can't even score 20 points by themselves. The Lakers had NO replacement for Shaq in the first place...Medvedenko? Malone? Anyone? All the guys were undersized...so in the West, you have to have a decent center...not necessarily Shaq. Put Kobe on the Clippers...with Maggette, Brand and Q-Rich (if he stays) and then you'd see the Clippers as a playoff threat. Kobe doesn't need Shaq to be successful...the Kings need more than what they have now, which should be enough in the first place.

if u guys honestly think the lakers will go far in the playoffs and are a better team without shaq, you guys aren't wired correctly... .700+ when shaq plays w/ no kobe, about .500 when kobe plays w/ no shaq... don't say this trade was a good one and you guys got a good deal... it doesnt matter how lazy shaq is, a 75% shaq is better then 99.9% percent of the guys in the league @ 100%... for you guys who believe the team is better now than it was with shaq, get out of denial and meet reality... you guys are going nowhere, and you guys are going there fast

Us Laker fans are celebrating the return of Kobe Bryant as a Los Angeles Laker. But now we have the daily haters that drink Haterade that try and ruin our happiness by saying the Lakers are sinking fast?? Listen homie, I'd rather be content with Kobe Bryant leading the Lakers than a deteriorating 32 year old Shaquille O'Neal. Shaq is out of shape, can't play 82 games anymore, fakes injuries, lazy, and plays when he wants to. A 7'1" 340 pound beast can't be replaced, but I'm sure the Laker management can do all they can to bring a bonafied center in. Maybe to the likes of Theo Ratliff or an Erick Dampier. Kobe on the other hand yes is selfish at times, but he plays basketball with a passion, and he's only 25 years of age. We're better off building around a quality player with Kobe and a much brighter future in the years ahead than Shaq. The Lakers no longer will be an intimidating force than they once were, but with a lineup of Payton, Kobe, Caron, Odom, a center, and a much better bench than last year if Vujacic plays up to form, then the Lakers will be no better than a 5th seed at best.
Why does everyone keep saying "You need a REAL center to compete in the West!" 1) There are less than a handful of 'Real' centers in the ENTIRE league. 2) The reason you needed a real center in the West was because of Shaq. Now that he's in the East that has diminished a great deal. The other thing I think is funny, is everyone is acting like the Lakers need Shaq to win. Yes Shaq is the MDE, but 2 teams in the last 2 years have won it all without Shaq (and without a 'Real' center). I'm not saying the Lakers are going to win it all, or even do great next year, but you can't discount them, just because they lost Shaq. And to all the haters, go ahead and hate. True Laker fans have always dealt with it. But if you're going to talk trash on the Lakers, at least have a team that has done something in the last decade.
It's like these guys don't read what I post...when Shaq was out, the Lakers didn't play as good. Why? Because they have NO OTHER PLAYER that can play the paint, and when you're in the Western Conference, you have to have someone. Garnett, Duncan, Yao...these guys eat up Medvedenko and Malone (when he attempts to play center). If you put Dampier or Ratliff in the paint, that's good enough...because then the team is handed to Kobe. Ratliff and Dampier are 100x better than Medvedenko...and I bet anything that the games that Shaq missed were the games that a big chunk of the opposing team's points came in the paint.
Ok, I just want to throw my two cents in on this Kings/Lakers argument real quick. Ok, I have a thought for you Kings fans. How many times have you beat the Lakers in the Playoffs? Oh yea, that's right, never. Who made the Finals 4 times in 5 years? Oh yea, Lakers did that also. Who choked in '02? The Kings again. See, no matter what you Kings fans say, you aren't better than the Lakers yet. When you beat us in the Playoffs when it matters, than you can talk. But, til than, shut up and let us Laker fans rejoice about getting Kobe back.

If Grant has to guard Duncan, Garnett, Brand, Webber, Randolph, Martin e.t.c the Lakers are doomed. More so with Duncan and Garnett. He will straight up abuse BG inside. Lakers will be very exciting next season but in terms of being a top west team? not a chance. They will get eaten up by the biggest and stronger teams which is basically the whole conference. Laker fans should be happy Kobe is back, It means they won't be in the running for the top pick in the lottery every season. But they need a low post player If they are to ever contend. Now Kobe has a chance to actually lead a team and not hide behind the daddy. Points will come far more harder than he will ever realise.

I am not a lakers fan or kings fan but I must say something. i have to agree with the laker fans. Lakers OWNED the kings last year. And who the **** cares kings 3-1 season? Webbers a choker. Lakers are better than the Kings last year and all previous years. This year I believe the Kingns will be better than The lakers. The kings might get th 3rd if theyr e lucky but Lakers will come like 6 or 7th. Without Shaq the Lakers will not be better.Im happy Kobe resigned, I think it is for the best.
