First, we all have our opinions and would like to see Knick's fans responses in defense of the Knicks. Second, I am not attempting to start a flame war, rather a friendly discussion. Third, Here are my reasons for not having any hope in Knicks success: 1: Old shooting guards: Houston and Hardaway are way past thier primes and are falling apart physically. It is also impossible to trade these two due to their unjustified contracts. If the knicks bring in Crawford, that will make matters worse becasue there are going to too many SG forcing out-of-position line ups and really unjustified salaries. 2: Tim Thomas: Assuming that Tim Thomas come back from injury 100%, he still is not a good enough player inorder to provide a good push past the first round of playoffs. Thomas plays with the same style as Van Horn, but is worse skillfully. It takes a great point guard like Jason Kidd and an energetic forward like Martin, for Thomas to be a part of a chamionship team. The knicks have niether of the two. 3: No Size: The only quality big man that the Knicks have is Nazi Muhammed. Kurt Thomas, even though he plays with alot of heart and I respect him, he is not that good. Mike Sweetney might develop into a good player, but not this upcoming season. Mutumbo is old and is no longer competative. 4: Contracts, Contracts, Contracts: Isiah Thomas is not at fault here, and I must say that he is a very good GM with a quality image. Scott Layden has messed up the Knicks for the next three seasons (thats when most big conracts come off). Thomas is very inflexible, and is unable to make trades that would really make the team better. 5: Marbury: This guy is never going to become an Isiah Thomas or Jason Kidd. It is impossible to stop the guy from scoring, but he simply lacks the leadership qualities needed. As much as I enjoy watching Marbury score, I know that he is not a winner...at least until the Knich are able to surround him with players that will provide chemisty around him. The Knicks should get a good point guard, good center like Dampier, develop Sweetney, move Stephon to shooting guard, and get a SF like Harpring or Jefferson. In addition to that the Knicks really need to get rid of Houston, Hardaway, Anderson, and Tim Thomas. I think that if the Knicks stay healthy, they can reach the playoffs like last year, but they will not go further than the first round, and are not at all close to being championship contenders.

EDIT: Well, now that its offical, I say that the Nets were compenstated barely adeqetly. You must remember however, that Ed Stefanski is one of the best scouts in the NBA, so the Nets will get Martin's value and even more in the future.
I dont believe the nets will get anything to replace martin at the moment. but may b in the future. I bleieve the nets are now where the knicks are at the moment. i believe bothe teams have Two great point gaurds that have no one to pass the ball too.

I have been hating the Knicks ever since they traded Patrick Ewing and I really started to hate the Knicks when they lost to the Raptors in the first round of Playoffs. I just found this forum yesterday...I would have posted this thread years ago (and many times).
The trading Patrick Ewing thing is lame. I've been a Knick fan all my life. Patrick Ewing was my favorite Knick. Just cause he got traded didn't make me hate the Knicks & switch teams. Hello, right now if the season started today, the Knicks would have a better team than the Nets. The Nets had there chance to win a championship & they blew-it. K-Mart strong-armed the Nets into this trade. Somebody should call the cops, cause the Nets wass robbed. Yeah If you guys would of sign K-Mart than there probably would of meant no RJ, But nobody knows that. Secondly it's probably easier to find a wing player, than a player like K-Mart. Be easy, welcome to the world of "Owners Don't Know Jack" Lord knows us Knick fans know how it feels to live in that world.

Yeah, the Knicks sucks at the moment. But THomas is a good GM. I'm sure that when those forsaken contracts come off the books, he'll be able to turn the team around. That will also be the time when we hopefully reap the benefits of this freakin trade.
Indeed, maybe we will see a nice and intense cross river rivalry...its 'cross river' either way because Brooklyn is across the East River

the nets stink now becase k mart is gone and kidd is hurt soo the nets have nothing going rite now and i would not be surprized if they dont even make the playoffs
The Knicks might makethe playoffs this year but thats it. Remember there is one playoff team gone with the Hornets and an expansion team with the Bobcats. The only way the Knicks will do anything special like win a championship is if they go to the NBDL

I disagree with this thread. Penny is still a very decent player he is actually getting better since he came to new york because his injuries are healing up. He may not be in new york next season sadely as he may be involved in a trade to get toine or to get crawford from the bulls. Then houston is coming off a injury pron season, but still has the highest free throw percentage in the NBA. He can hit the jumper consistantley and is a huge part of the team he is actually in his prime imo rather than past it a players prime is considered the peak of there career basically an average of some were around the age of 27 to 32. Marbury is gona be a huge peace for this team to build around with the possible leaving of jason kidd from the nets do to his unhappiness with K-MART not being signed he may be traded to a western conference team if he is I believe marbury becomes the best eastern point guard as he is second in the nba in assists and along with oscar robertson is the only player ever to average at least 20 points 8 assists for his career. Tim Thomas I agree with you is not a big part of this team imo trading van horn for him was a move to many by the thomas in the front office. Though he may develope into something this season since it will be his first season with marbury and also marbury's first full year in new yokr to learn the system. So I am still holding hope for him. As far as no size goes I have to disagree with that as well. They just resigned baker to a 3 million dollar contract he is 6'11" a talented player, but a liability do to his past drinking problems. Mazir is also near 7 feet tall. Sweetny is a elton brand type player and brand averages nearly a double double I believe. Then they got thomas 6'11' also a double double player though he may be traded for walker. So see your whole post in this thread is incorrect so I suggest you review your facts before you post something the knicks have a quality team that can go into the playoff and hold there own imo. Though you are intitled to yours as well.
