Slava is an unrestricted free agent...

Should the Lakers re-sign him? Any word on his status, whether any other team is courting him? Slava's been real quiet this off-season..

As of right now, the Laker roster has exactly 12 players...

    1. Kobe Bryant
    2. Caron Butler
    3. Brian Cook
    4. Rick Fox * (he may retire)
    5. Devean George
    6. Brian Grant
    7. Lamar Odom
    8. Gary Payton
    9. Kareem Rush
    10. Sasha Vujacic
    11. Luke Walton
    12. Vlade Divac (this is a presumption)

This roster is assuming Douthit doesn't make the squad, and Malone doesn't re-sign.

I dont think Slava does us much good, he isnt afraid to shoot the ball and that hurts us a lot, he can score...he does have an outside shot but it is farr too inconsistent for him to be taking how many shots that he takes..

I'd resign him. With our lack of meat in our frontcourt, I'd re-sign him to assure ourselves that we won't look as small of a team, and that we actually have big men to look forward to coming off the bench. Now, I'm not saying Slava is a prize coming off the bench because he's horrible, but if we can be comfortable with possibly a center rotation of Divac, Grant, and Slava, all with bulk in the interior, and also give Slava limited minutes off the bench, then I think we'd be okay. You don't see Slava complaining about playing time, do you? He knows he stinks.

Why do I always seem to be so optimistic? I love Slava....when he's on. If he works out and gains more muscle and works on his shot some more, which any developing PRO should in the off season, he could be a valuable asset to the Lakers new team. I see the new offense as being quite open so he should have chances to get clean shots off. I would re-sign him.

The thing is that Slava had a lot of trouble in Phil Jackson's offense...there is a slight chance he could flourish under another system (altho I highly doubt it, lol)

but it depends on his asking price...I wouldn't give him more than 4 million a year

If he re-signs for cheap, and I mean real cheap, around the $1.5M range. Then I wouldn't mind having him back. Anything more is over paying for Slava. He's a terrible defender for his size, and inconsistent in every aspect of his game. I'd rather him be really good at one thing, REBOUNDING, then to see him have one good shooting game, followed by five terrible ones.

    Lakers O4/o5 Roster?

IT DOESN'T LOOK GOOD FOR RESIGNING SLAVA, UNLESS HE REALLY WANTS TO STAY IN LA FOR LESS THAN MARKET VALUE. DOUTHIT IS ALSO 6'11" AND COMES MUCH CHEAPER, HE HAD A GREAT GAME THE OTHER NIGHT, DOUBLE DOUBLE. THE LAKERS HAVE SAID THEY WILL TAKE 6 PLAYERS FROM THE SUMMER LEAGUE TO CAMP BESIDES THOSE UNDER CONTRACT. THE WAY I SEE IT RIGHT NOW, BARRING SIGN AND TRADE, ASSUMING FOX RETIRES OR GOES TO COACH/BROADCASTER HERES NEXT YEARS LAKERS.

    SG- KOBE BACKUP-RUSH
    PG-PAYTON -SASHA
    SF-ODOM -BUTLER, WALTON
    PF-GRANT -COOK, MALONE-IF HE DOESN'T RETIRE
    C-VLADE -DOUTHIT

    D.GEORGE-INJURED LIST
AND MAYBE A CHEAP FREE AGENT GUARD-BOBBIT? [IMG]

Slava is completely worthless. He cant play defense, he cant rebound, he cant (or doesnt like to) pass the ball, he will hit the 17 foot jumper every now and then but its never consistant. Just say no to slava
Im sure we can find another big body who can do at least one of these things effectively.

[IMG] Slava, Slava, Slava. Where for out thow Slava. Don't really care if he resigns or not. I seen him have one smooth game in his whole career. I guess under Rudy he could do more, but he can't d up like the lakeshow said. If he doesn't resign, all that is important is that they have a banger and defender to replace him. Cause we Vlade who can hardly move. [IMG]

Aren't the Lakers going to have enough people taking bad jumpshots in Kobe, Caron, and Lamar? Sign him for $1.5 mil/year like shape said (though more than 3 years is a risk I wouldn't take) and ensure that he NEVER receives the ball on offense. I'd prefer it to just be 4v5.

yo, right, we lack of frontcourt, we cant risk not resigning him with no SHaq. We gotta get some forwards that can compensate the loss.

It is a necessity to re-sign Slava, especially if Malone decides to leave.
Slava can score, shoot well, draw the defense away, and is improving his rebounding. GET IT DONE MITCH!!!

He was a good X-Factor for the Lakers. I think they should re-sign him.
