Yeah. Larry Lacewell is gone. I think he has been a big problem with the organization and especially the drafts. The first day has never been great, but I'm not sure why we even draft on the second day, except to help the other teams by weeding out the good players. Cowboys remove Lacewell 11:18 AM CST on Thursday, January 6, 2005 By JEAN-JACQUES TAYLOR / The Dallas Morning News The Cowboys have removed Larry Lacewell from his position as director of pro and college scouting, two sources said Thursday morning. Lacewell, a longtime close associate to owner/general manager Jerry Jones, has been a powerful voice in the organization since the early 1990s. Lacwell has coordinated the team's draft for the past 11 years. His future with the team is still being determined. Lacewell joined the Cowboys in 1992 as director of college scouting. He became the team's director of college and pro scouting in 1994. The Cowboys only have one player remaining from the 2000 and 2001 drafts, and that player (Tony Dixon) will likely be released this off-season. Lacewell began his coaching career at Alabama in 1959. He then had brief stints with Arkansas State, Arkansas A&M, Kilgore Junior College, Oklahoma, Wichita State and Iowa State before a nine-year run with the Oklahoma Sooners as assistant head coach and defensive coordinator. He helped lead the team to two national championships. Lacewell was athletic director and head coach at Arkansas State from 1978-89, where he compiled a 69-48-4 record.
If this was the first bad year maybe. Look back at our draft for the past 8-10 years....it hasn't been stellar.
