Fox reports a rumor of Damp to Sixers for Glenn Robinson and Kyle Korver. http://msn.foxsports.com/id/2592190
No friggin way the Warriors should do this. They should be getting way better players then what they have been offered so far. Dampier averaged 12 and 12 in the Western Conference, and the Sixers are going to offer Glenn Robinson and Kyle Korver?
At this point, it's just a rumor. We've seen plenty of those regarding Damp, maybe it will get NY, Indy, or Memphis to sweeten their deal. If it goes through, I can only think that the reasons are these: - cap space next year (both contracts expire next year, GR is $12 mil) - W's get a backup SF this year - to help out Damp, so his agent will think kindly of us in the future - Mully likes slow white guys who can shoot I'm not sure the contracts match up, though, I sure hope we aren't giving them someone good (but they can have Esh!)
I would LOVE this trade. I doubt it is just for Damp though. Probably Damp+a decent player. Glen Robinson is a monster. I love his game. He could come in and be a great sub for Dunleavy, or starter for that matter. Korver is a 3pt specialist. This guy has great range and consistency from the 3pt line. He was in the 3 point contest last year wasn't he? I would LOVE this trade to happen. If it means Damp+Esch or a draft pick, I would do it. Glen's contract is going to expire this year, but if he likes it here, and plays well, I would not mind resigning him for a 3-4 year contract. Kyle could be a great back up to Dunleavy if we lose Robinson. Go for it!
I agree, it seems to work well for both teams, Big Dog being the number 1 option with the second team would be fantastic, and then getting a great specialist in Korver who we can decide to keep or not with the rookie option is perfect.
Imagine a line up of thes guys developing... Speedy/Dickau Jrich/Petrius Dunleavy/Korver Murphy/Foyle Biedrens/Foyle Now THAT is a young core!
These Philly guys are really excited about it. I cant believe we would get this for Damp. Damp is gone, he is nothing, he does not exist. It is like Philly gives us G Robinson and Korver for nothing. Granted Big Dogg probably wont be with the team longer than this year, but either is Damp. And if Korver turns out to be a 3pt shooting machine like Reggie Miller or something, then we got that for nothing!
Yea I like this trade the best so far. I liked what I saw from Korver last season. He hit some big shots and has good potential. This trade would give us great depth aswell.
Definately. When we signed Foyle and Fish, our biggest concerns were depth. Now with Davis filling in the depth at center and Dickau and Fish at PG, our only hole left now is SF. If we got even G robinson alone, that would provide depth, let alone Korver. I like this roster Speedy/Fisher/Dickau Jrich, Petrius/Korver Dunleavy/Big Dog/Korver Murphy/Cliffy/Biedrens Foyle/Biedrens/Davis/Esch
Why should we get ANYTHING for Dampier? He could sign for the MLE if he really wanted to...We should be lucky to get a 2nd round pick for Damp. We have no control in the situation. We either let Damp walk, or we take what we can get... Damps not a star either, so why should we get a star in return? Glen used to be a star. Damp used to be a good center. He wont be in 2 years... BTW, Glen is only 1 season removed from averaging 20pts per game.

Not a lot of people averaged 12 and 12 in the Western Conference.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting UltimateWarrior:</div><div class="quote_post">Didn't Danny Fortson avg. a double double aswell? Do you consider him a star?</div> I never said Dampier was a star. Lol, ok let me re-phrase my sentence, the Warriors should get a player thats close to being a star. EDIT: And don't even tell me Robinson is going to be a star in this league again.
I never said Glen Robinson is going to be a star again, I just said he was only 1 season from averaging 20pts per game. He averaged 16 last year. If he could do that again, I would be very happy. I am not making Damp sound like a scrub, I am just saying he does not belong to us anymore. If he were a restricted FA, then I would agree with you more, but he is an unrestricted FA, he is not the property of the golden state warriors. If we get anything for him, it will be better than nothing as long as it is not a long contract for a crummy player. Should we get someone that is close to being a star? Maybe, if they are 30 years old. Otherwise, why would someone give up a 24 year old that is close to being a star for a 30 year old who is not really close to being a star. It takes more than 1 season of scoring only 12pts per game to be a star...
Fair enough. You bring up some valid points. BTW, I don't know who the moderator is of this forum, but he might be mad at all of the double-posting.
I have two issues regarding this trade: 1. Robinson has never had a reputation for being a good locker room guy or easy on his coaches. I think the Warriors will be asking for trouble if they get Robinson, espeically if they're telling him to come off the bench so Dunleavy can start. That puts Montgomery in a very tough situation from the get go and there are probably only a handful of coaches in the league could handle it. 2. I understand that by drafting Iguodala and trading for Kendrick Brown, the Sixers have sf pretty well covered and can afford to lose Robinson and Korver, but why are they getting a center when they already have Dalembert, not to mention the fact that Kenny Thomas signed a big deal last year? I guess Damp could play the 5, Dalembert the 4, and Thomas could come off the bench, and since Robinson was going to leave via free agency next year anyway, it would be nice to get a valuable piece for him now. But still, the Sixers are one of the last teams I expected to get in the running for Damp. If this deal were to go down, it would be very interesting to see how many touches Damp gets. Dalembert is an emerging low post scorer and I have a hard time seeing AI dump it down in the post for a second big man as well.
All good points, wtwalker77. The salary numbers don't work very well, either, although they can be made to work. This could be good old fashioned gamesmanship. It sure looks like Damp is going to the East, and with Shaq there, and the powerful frontline in Detroit, winning in the playoffs will be easier with a guy like Damp in your lineup, or at least force another East team to overpay. Why not get in the middle of this, you either get him or help weaken the opposition. KNBR just mentioned Indiana is showing more interest, but nothing to back it up...I feel like a high school gossip!
There's a rumor in the Philadelphia Daily news that there could be a trade between the Sixers and the Mavericks involving Antwan Walker. Maybe this could be the chance to get that 7'5" Pavel dude, something from Philly to balance the contracts, and then send Damp to the Mavericks. "Also, there is reason to believe that the Sixers - who had draft-night conversations with Dallas - might still be open to dealing with the Mavericks for Antoine Walker, who thrived under O'Brien with Boston." from http://www.philly.com/mld/dailynews/sports/9203727.htm?1c
