    Linkage

Now, I dont like the idea of the Kings shipping out any more than the next person. But why on Gods green earth does it have to come to this?

The Maloofs want no part of paying for the arena, but they want control over the profits of it, the city council is trying to ram a bad idea down everyone's throats and the only real loosers are the people that live here. No matter what... the people that live in Sacramento will be screwed by this if it is built, or apperently, even if its not built.

everyone needs to pull their heads out of their butts and build a new arena out in the Natomas area where the current one is located. Its cheaper, has easier access to freeways and its closer to my house anyway. And casino owners should be able to foot at least half the bill for a new arena that their team uses to play in.

It's all About Making Money to the Politcians...

Your'e right about the only losers are the citizens of Sacromento. The Maloofs want someone else to flip the bill, but want control over it,like you said.no wonder this kind of behavior would make it easy for the team to move when and if things don't go there way we will move oughtta here where we will find somewhere else that apreciates us more!!

The Maloofs are perhaps trying to make Sacromento "give" them a new home, and if that doesn't work, will they say were shopping around

Unfortunley it doesn't matter what we think, cause it simply doesn't matter. The Politcians will do what the Money says for them to do,the Maloofs are just looking for a "gift",and the fans will be out on the short stick.

Maybe if the Maloofs and the Citzens of Sac-Town could pay for half of the cost, that'd be a good solution, but don't bank on it.

    This is BS all around!

    An Idea

For those of you who live within the county of Sacramento, I would like for you to do the same thing I am going to do.

Monday I am going to contact my local County Board of Directors member and request that the county involve themselves in this mess and basicly take control of the situation by removing the City of Sacramento from the mess. They dont want a downtown arena because of the expenses and other purely political issues? thats fine, build a new one in an unincorporated part of town right off I-80 or even request that the City of Roseville get involved and put an arena in Roseville in the area of I-80 and the SR-65 Junction.

This is something that is far to important to let dawdling idiots who have no idea of what running a REAL city is all about.

Please help me in helping the community at large in the Sacramento area by doing everything we can to keep professional sports in Sacramento.

Feel free to respond in this thread or PM me.

For those of you who live in areas where a new arena has brought revitalization to a run down area of town, please PM me with as much detail specifying any numbers you might have and the general consesus of your feelings. This material is going to be presented by myself and any other volunteers that I can gather together to the County Board of Directors and our local Congressional Representatives (There are a few people that are already on board with me and we are looking to form a "coalition" of sorts to make sure they do not mistake us as a small minority of people)

Thank you all for any help you see fit in providing

    ~Harbingerofdoom

    update

We now even have the NBA commisioner saying that Arco blows and needs to be replaced
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Stern said a new arena is vital to the long-term viability of the Kings, saying Arco Arena needs to go.

"It is very much an outdated arena. It will eventually need to be replaced," Stern said.</div>

    update:

wow this last two weeks has been hell for me.

sorry I have not been able to post as much as I would like, but life is really pulling at me from all sides right now.

In any event, there is one update that I have regarding the arena. The county board of directors has issued a "request" (more like a demand the way they put it) to be kept in the loop as to what is happening with the Arena issue and have been very critical of the city and its handling of this issue.

sorry I dont have any links for you on that part, TV & radio are the only places I am getting that part of the story.

    It's all good.

Hopefully this is a wake up call to Sacromento to keep the Kings there!

just like the normal tradition currently reigning in sports these days any new arena will be named whatever the highest bidder says it is....

I have a feeling that since Arco was either bought out or merged with BP, they may not renew any contract they currently have which will open it up to a new company to come in and pay to name it.

    personally, I'd like "Hooters Arena"

An article from another local writer
    http://www.sacbee.com/content/sports/story...-11081785c.html

some good facts in there such as this one
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Initially, Kings co-owners Joe and Gavin Maloof also were interested in merely expanding and remodeling Arco, but were told by architectural firms that the design and weak foundation would withstand neither additional seating nor other dramatic structural renovation. In other words, Arco was built cheaply, not to last.</div>

and it looks like it was built cheaply... its not a very attractive building from either the inside or the outside.

    new updates

    http://www.sacbee.com/content/news/story/1...-11184130c.html

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Hoping to avert a clash with the owners of the Sacramento Kings and move forward with arena negotiations, the Sacramento City Council on Thursday voted 8-1 to limit the city's investment to $175 million but pulled away from other cost specifics.</div>
there is some good news though, the city has named three consultants who together have worked on the Oakland arena renovations, Petco Park (San Diego) and International Facilities who has worked with 23 other venues (including SBC center, Invesco Field, PG&E park AKA PacBell Park, Staples Center and the Rose Garden, just to name a few) As their negotiating team. Its pretty much the only step in the right direction they have made as of yet.

With the original downtown arena deal considered dead...

    http://www.sacbee.com/content/sports/baske...-11729425c.html

A surprising proposal is being pushed by the county sheriff, and it looks to be a fairly solid proposal.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Under the scenario, county voters would be asked to approve opening about 10,000 acres of unincorporated Natomas to annexation and development by the city of Sacramento.

In return, property owners inside the development area would agree to contribute 20 percent of their land to a foundation, which would sell it to pay for an arena.

For landowners, the carrot would be getting to develop sooner rather than later. Although the city and county of Sacramento have earmarked the area north of the city limits for development, the contentious process of amending the city's general plan and annexing the land could take years.</div> While I have to agree that it is unusal for the sheriff to involve himself in such issues, I also have to say, he seems the only elected public official in Sacramento who seems to be trying to do anything on the subject at all.

The reason for this to be put in a public vote is due to the fact that a public vote will enable them to put the development on a fast track where taking the natural course of things will take several years before the development of this land could start.

    Argh..
The Decision to place an advisory vote on the March Ballot has been scrapped.

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">
Shirley Concolino, Sacramento's city clerk, said for the arena question to make it to the March ballot, language would have to be approved by the City Council no later than Oct. 26. Even though making that deadline is no longer feasible, city officials said an arena plan is far from dead.</div> Again, The City Council and Mayor have dropped yet another ball. At this point their turnover to assist ratio would be in the negative numbers. Although, to be honest, there are so few sports fans that live within the city limits as opposed to those who dont, combined with the fact that This issue is of major importance to so many people that do not live within the city's boundries that this being pulled may actually be a blessing in disguise.

On the brighter side, there are some privately funded Ideas that are starting to pick up speed. One of which is locating the arena in the area of I-5 and Richards Blvd in the old train yards. That land has been receintly bought by a private investor who has a plan to develop an arena as a centerpiece to his development of the land.

Good to see that with the absence of any real leadership from the City of Sacramento, private investors are starting to look into ideas and hopefully will bring in a new arena without any of the cities [non] help.

Here is an idea that would never happen- sell stock in the arena in order to fund the entire project. I would be willing to spend a couple hundred to buy stock in the future of my community. 40,000 shares at 100 a piece would raise the required money and keep it in private hands rather than having any municipality getting involved. (and hopefully perhaps locate the arena outside of the city limits)

</div>Well, since that is the case, I've "un-sticked" this thread to keep this forum neat and as easy to navigate as possible. If there is any developments, or the decision is changed again, I'll be happy to "re-stick" it back to the top of the forum.

Come on guys, ultimately this is not a big deal. Everyone pays $2 out of their taxes and you get a new stadium. However I realize that you are fighting the concept, that it should not be your job to pay for something that will profit someone else.

Hell just change your team name, the Sacramento Hooters. You can have big boobed bimbos serving beer and chicken wings during the game while the jerseys are big boosting cleavage. I think you would get your rating to go thro the roof! [IMG] [IMG]
