Quote:

Miami added Shaquille O'Neal. NBA champion Detroit is keeping Rasheed Wallace. Indiana and Atlanta strengthened their lineups. New York is intent on making a major move.

Philadelphia? Well, the additions of role players Kevin Ollie and Brian Skinner haven't exactly raised title expectations for fans of the 76ers. So far, the team's biggest offseason acquisition was hiring Jim O'Brien as coach.

What exactly are the Sixers doing?

Their roster seems a contrast of ideals. They want to move Willie Green into the starting lineup and give major minutes to John Salmons, Samuel Dalembert, and perhaps Kyle Korver. But it's not a true rebuilding effort when veterans Allen Iverson, Kenny Thomas and Glenn Robinson will still demand the ball.

Toss in versatile swingman and first-round draft pick Andre Iguodala, and dependable Aaron McKie and the Sixers will probably be deeper than last year's 33-49 club, but not necessarily better.

"That type of team is the type of team that will grow us in the right direction,'' O'Brien said

Even with the additions of Skinner, Iguodala and the low key players such as Ollie and Brown there still many holes left to fill up. I once thought that if the Sixers have any chance of making notable transactions this off-season they would have to trade players such as Snow, Mckie or Robinson. But with the latest acquisition of Ollie and Brown in exchange Eric Snow, I don't what?s running in Billy King mind. Next thing you know he might trade Aaron McKie for Diop or something.

Well nonetheless, with the current team we have ensemble Coach O'Brien believes that he can quickly change the 76ers to EC contenders. There has been word of bringing Antoine Walker to the Sixers. At first I was not in favor of this, but being that he played well under Jim O'Brien coaching philosophy (not including his last season in Boston) back in Boston he can quite possibly fit well with the 76ers as long as he doesn?t jack up one shot after another and try doing some damage in the paint some more. Walker or no Walker, I believe there should only be a few more moves made, and we should be fine.

O shit I totaly forgot that walker and o brien were together in boston. Now the sixers should definitly try and pull out a few stops to try and get him. Even though he says he is 90% sure he will go to new york. Even if he does go to new york that will put the sixers in the running foranother player that would be a huge peace to them becoming contenders. Eric Dampier he was almost a done deal to new york a few days ago now its not sure were he will go.

If the knicks aquire walker that would open up the door for the sixers to get dampier the knicks can only afford so many people. If they get dampier they have two double double guys playing in there front court thomas and dampier. Also young up and coming 3rd year player dalembert and a bright future super star pack could make them the favorites to win the atlantic and not the knicks or raptors.

The sixers need to get one big name star and they cant go wrong with either dampier or walker. Hoepfully one of them will be in philly by the end of the offf season. To give AI some help. Though I hope they ship glenn robinson out of town.

Yeah the only way we will get another star player is if we trade one of our promising young guys, also Dampier Sixers rumors are probally just all talk Billy King said there are no truth to them, plus I really dont think we need him here in Philly because we already have a decent front court and we would want Sammy D to get as many minutes as possible so he will grow as a star as fast as possible.

I am actually happy with our line up (cept GLenn). The future looks promising.

If I were the GM, I would be looking to trade AI for a taller, better shooting guard or an established 7-footer for the middle. Not sure who that would be but I would be looking. I am not sure that AI brings anything special to this team anymore. Oh, he is fun to watch at the fast break but he really is not a very good shooter.

I may not be able to make a deal that makes sense but I would be looking anyway.

I agree with you bond that the sixers should maybe be looking to move iverson out.

But i think we as fans of the nba being full of dram should give ai at leats another year to replenish hiself.

Especially if they are going to be playing ai at the point which i thought should have been done a little while ago after the season after they went to the championship witht he lakers.

The 76ers will only trade AI if he has another season like he did last year. Arguing with coaching, injuries, and just not being there for the franchise. He will not be traded this off season he is the heart and sole of the sixers team. He has gotten the answer from BK that he is not going to trade Allen Iverson. He also has one of the top 5 most sold jerseys in the USA. Then he sells tickets for them as well.

no i wouldn't trade AI from the sixers unless he wanted to go...
he needs some suporting cast around him...and not fat n slow walker we have Glen for that he is better than walker...
i think sixers need a guy to play defence at post... dampier could fit nice...

For the 76ers to move AI they have to get one great high profile player in return (for example: Baron, Carter, Marion, Kidd). The reason is because of seat sales and revenue issues. The 76ers will not accept a trade for say AI for James Posey and Lorenzon Wright. I'm just using these as examples.

Yeah like pgrudo said AI is a player that is not only important to the sixers on the court with his play and leadership, but he is what puts fans in the seats. He has some of the top jersey sales in the league. I was watching a report on comcast sports net a few months back about how desprite the philly fans are for a title and he commented something about the sixers not having to worry about a title for a few years as long as they got AI because he will keep the fans intrested and the fans wont attack the team because they havent won a title.

For those reasons and the fact AI has said he never wanted to play for any other team his career besides the sixers his dad was a 76er and thats were he wants to be. He loves philly and its fans as long as he continues to have a great attitude with the team he wont be traded for those reasons.
