The offer sheet is for six years, $27 million and can pay him a salary of $4.5 million a year.

Because Hassell is a restricted free agent, the Timberwolves will have 15 days to match the offer from the time they receive it.

    Will they match?

"I'm not sure what they're going to do," Bartelstein told Insider. "I know they wanted Trenton back, but I think that's a little bit more than they were hoping to pay."</div>

Damn I am torn right now. My original statement in the thread was that he wasnt worth the full MLE. That would offer him 36 million over the next 6 years. This is kind of in the middle of what was originally prejected 16 million over the course of 3 years and what he wanted the full MLE. I want trenton back as much as the next guy this is a tough choice to be made. I am hoping he is back if I am thinking with my heart, but thinking they wont match with my brain.

There is a possibility that the Wolves won't match. But I really want Hassell back in Minnesota. I think that the Wolves will match it even if it's a bit more than they were hoping for. We will just have to wait.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Asked whether the Wolves could match the offer, McHale said, "Yeah, we can do it. We can match any offer that is starting at less than $4.9 million (per year)."

    Do they intend to match?

"We'll find out," McHale said. "We've got some stuff to look at, and we've got 15 days to make a decision. I'll look at the whole offer sheet and see how it's structured. I knew last Friday he would be getting an offer sheet within a day or two. We'll make our decision when we calculate everything and look at where we're at."

A six-year, $27 million contract for Hassell would consist of annual salaries of $3.6 million, $3.96 million, $4.32 million, $4.68 million, $5.004 million and $5.4 million.

Asked whether he was surprised at the amount of money in Portland's offer sheet, McHale said, "Freddie (Hoiberg) carved out a little niche for himself, and so did Trenton Hassell. Good for Trenton; now we've got a decision to make."

If the Wolves decide not to match the offer, McHale said, "we have Plan A, Plan B and Plan C. We'll see what shakes out; we'll do one of them."</div>

Any guesses on what the three different plans are?

One is obviously to resign Hassell.

I'm going to guess that the 2nd is some way to get good center.

The third could just be a replacement SF/SG.

I am guessing that it is to look at other free ahents at that position is plan B. People that are still on the market like miles and other swing men. I think that option C is to look and explore all trade possibilities from teams that are intrested in there players. Philly with kandi also the option with trading kandi and wally to boston. Not sure what they will do if they cant resign hassel. That comment from mchale makes me think. If he was going to match why wouldnt he just come out and say it. Like the clippers did last year with maggettes offer sheet from utah. He must be having second thoughts do to the amounts of money involved. Another thing I noticed is that he said we can match any offer starting at 4.9 million. If the full MLE was offered they wouldnt have matched cause it started at roughly 5 million.

I love Trenton, from wearing #45 as a bull to his antics of showing Jordan love (wears numbers #45 and 23 to eating and doing the same things Jordan did on his off days) to playing gritty "D." Nonetheless, at 4.5 Million a year, the T'wolves must go a different and here's why. I can't see how Minny can pay him more than Bruce Bowen. Bowen is still a better defender. Bowen has proven himself and is a better shoother than Hassell. This contract would be be fine if it was a 2 or 3 year deal, but to tie yourself in a six year deal, when you know Spree and Cassell only have a couple years left is unwise. Honestly, as much as I love Hassell, it's better to find a more proven player for less year at his price range. AS much as he shut down CA and PS in the playoffs, Kobe lit him up. Bowen always does well against Kobe and although Hassell is severly underrated, the other reason to let him go is that he actually wants more of a role in the offense. Chicago let him go because he voiced these concerns at the end of his second year, so they cut him. Why else is he eager to jump ship? He could have done what Hoiberg did to stay with a winning team for a little less. Playing with KG, Spree, Cassell, and etc. isn't enough? He could have made 3 mil a year and never had to worry about anything but playing "D." No, he wants more of a role ad thinks he can do that around the horrid Portland players. Sounds like McHale is 50-50, but I say let him walk, he going to have his minutes cut here anyways when you look at the fact that Wally's back and T-hud will be playing instead of rapping. So my advice to whether or not play Hassell? Like T-hud says "WE gotta shu-shu-shu- shut dem down."

The T'wolves should explore trading Hassell to Portland and seeing if we can get something in return. Maybe match the offer sheet and see if we can get a young player and a pick or something. I think we will try to find another decent swingman a younger player like Hassell that can develop and or trade Kandi for another big. I know ther were some rumors about a three team deal involving Wally, Ray Allen and others but it looks like we are standing pat with Wally World. Rumors about a sign and trade for Dampier don't have validity but it's sounds like damp might be willing a MLE. RObert Horry might be available for the 1.5 llse, and it sounds as if the Bulls and Cavs have great interest in Wally. I would like to think that McHale can figure something out for another big man and swingman.

As long as they bring in a perimeter defender thats all that matters to me, hell maybe they can find this years Trenton Hassell you never know. There are plenty of role players in the league such as every player that plays on a team that has under a .400 winning percentage. Find one that plays D and bring him to Minny, because as Detroit proved Defense still wins championships.
