I'm sorry. I love Melo and I really liked where the Nuggets were going but 3 FIRST ROUND PICKS FOR KENYON MARTIN??????? i mean hes a decent player. he may make their team a bit better but come ON!!! 3 first rounders is what u give up only when youre getting a legit FRANCHISE player in return, not a borderline all star who still hasnt proven to be able to make his own shot! I hate comparing different sports, but the New England Patriots only traded ONE SECOND ROUND pick for corey dillon, a three time all pro running back and a much more legit star in his league than kenyon martin. if the nets play their cards right, they can turn those picks into three guys who are all better than kenyon martin. Jason Kidd can turn almost any pretender with ups into a star

Kenyon Martin is worth 3 picks, who are you kidding?

all those picks aee lottery protected so they likely will not get a player anywhere near as good as Martin with any of those selections.

Many players were overpaid but this that doesn't mean Martin won't be a huge signing for them. He can do it all for that Denver team, he is the prefect fit for what they are trying to do.

He brings emotion, leadership, defense, scoring and rebounding. I say all thats worth 3 draft picks.

This move takes Denver from contending for the 8th seed to contending for the 4th seed.

We all know you hate K-mart and have been proven wrong about him before, remember when you said he would never make the all-star game?

Nuggets stole a superstar for pennies from the Nets. Probrably the most lopsided trade this offseason

Look at the season Corey Dillion is coming off, it was pretty horrible for a pro bowler. And the Bengals pretty much had to trade Dillion for next to nothing because he went to the media last year and told them that he wanted out. That pretty much took away any leverge that Cinny would ever have in a possible trade deal for Dillion becuase teams knew the Bengals had to trade Dillion or risk him becoming a problem for the team enviroment. And didnt Dillion hold out of training camp a few years back over a contract?

K-Mart has never done anything like this to the Nets nor has he expressed a want to leave NJ, so Dillion and the bengals/Pats was totally different from what K-Mart and the Nets/Denver. The Bengals had to take the pick, the Nets didnt have to take the 3 picks. They could have matched, if they really wanted too.

Kmart is going to be a difference maker for the Nuggets...he will get Melo's back when he gets in arguements with opposing teams such as the first round against Minny, Melo and the other Nuggz didnt have an enforcer, now they have Kmart...he also brings defense, scoring, rebounding to the game as stated by allnet..with Andre Miller, Carmelo, and Kmart the Nuggets should be one of the best fast breaking teams in teh league, they will have a title within 4 years..

Lopsided trade, more like bad understanding of the situation by forum users

<font face="Times New Roman">undefined</font><div class="quote_poster">Quoting Kobe 8 Ball:</div><div class="quote_post">Kmart is going to be a difference maker for the Nuggets...he will get Melo's back when he gets in arguements with opposing teams such as the first round against Minny, Melo and the other Nuggz didnt have an enforcer, now they have Kmart...he also brings defense, scoring, rebounding to the game as stated by allnet..with Andre Miller, Carmelo, and Kmart the Nuggets should be one of the best fast breaking teams in teh league, they will have a title within 4 years..</div>

The trade wasn't lopsided for one reason and one reason only. Nets didn't have a choice. Because Kmart was going to sign the fornt loaded contract, the Nets either had to make a trade or lose him for nothing. Because Kmart was under the rookie scale, the only thing they could get to match salary was the three picks. Three picks is better than nothing.

Kmart is a great two way player, he's tough, played "D" and can score in spurts. He's onrey, but I think that the Nuggets downfall may be decided by team chemistry. We all shaw some questionable judgements and actions by Melo last year. I can see that if he and Kmart don't blend the Nuggets will have tons of problems. He (Kmart) didn't get along with Van horn and other Nets players have been known to call players out and be disruptive. If Melo and Mart gel, they are a top 4 West team for the next 5 years, if not, more troubles will continue for an up and coming Nugget team.

Nuggets under paid for martin. They only gave up three first round picks. With there lineup right now. melo, nene, camby, and martin, along with lenard and miller in the back court there gona be contenders for a long time. There starting front line is all pure talent right there. They will dominate the boards out west. I can say there gona be contenders even though I dislike them some what because last year they took the wolves to the limit with that lineup then. With this lineup who knows were they can land there selves in the playoffs.

anybody who says the nuggets gave to much away for martin are plain idiots! ok the whole reason kiki traded for all those picks is so he could use them this offseason. And even if the picks end up being high enough, their lottery protected. The only thing you could make a legit case for was that we overpaid him. But winning has a cost and thank god theres a company called walmart:).

THing is, though, it's risky when your extremely bombastic "enforcer" is also being looked to for most of your rebounding and inside scoring. If Martin goes over the top, which he has a tremendous propensity to do, that's a blow to the team.

I think this trade is a poor one, because I don't believe Kenyon Martin, underneath all the glitz and pumped up bravado, offers anything you couldn't get from a cheaper equivalent. And, when you start making the playoffs, you NEED to hang on to your draft picks. Otherwise you get older and older, fall apart, and you're out for another 6 or 7 years.

I have only see him play for the nets lol. So I cant say he makes great teams champions. I think kidds presence in new jersey had part to do with there success I dont think it was k-mart that made them great though he helped.

K-mart has never even averaged over 20 points for a season. He isnt the greatest power forward in the league and shouldnt be considered a savior for a team. Though he is a top power forward and nba all star. He will fit nice with the nuggets team and help them be successful though I dont think it will be just k-mart making them legit title contenders if all goes well.

They have other front line players that are pretty good nene, camby, and melo. Those guys will also play a huge role in helping the team be good. Along with miller a ok point guard and lenard a under rated shooting guard who beat out peja in the three point shoot out they will be good.

    leadership? [IMG] wow.

and kenyon martin didn't exactly "dominate" on the boards in the leastern confrence. what chance will he have in the west even if shaq isnt there?

youd all be wise to listen to Casske's well thought out post. K-mart is a solid but drastically overrated and overrhyped power forward. If the Nets sign Shareef Abdur Rahim it will HAVE to be considered an upgrade.

Martin was NJ's emotional leader and always got them up for games, Martin averaged 9.5 rebounds per game but what does playing in the east matter? It's not like he struggles with west teams. He will be playing in the same style offense and on a team with more guys who can rebound which will leave more options for him to rebound the ball.

K-mart is a difference maker on a team needing another guy to add to their team. Why else would the experts being picking Denver as a top 4 seed? SAR will not be an upgrade over Martin..who are you kidding? the guy has no real post game, no emotion or no defense. How is that suppose to improve their team? Quite frankly It doesn't.

All the picks Denver gave up were lottery protected, so there's a high chance none of them will produce a decent player.

Once K-Mart got traded from the Nets, I stop talking about what K-Mart did, simply because he doesnt do it anymore. But when I hear people who clearly dont know what K-Mart brought to the table.

1st, let me say people need to stop stat watching when assessing players because thats the only way someone would say that "Shareef Abdur Rahim is an upgrade from K-Mart". Kenyon Martin in his own way up lifts everyone around him on with his play on the court. The guy goes so hard and give so much effort, teammates have no choice but to lift the effort level. Richard Jefferson, Jason Kidd, etc have made it pretty clear countless # of times, how K-Mart even inspires them to give a little more.

Please name one time or one inccident where a teammate has said Reef inspired them to dig a little deep when they didnt have it? See because those type of things dont show up in the stat box. Those are things you only know by watching a team night in & night out. And those things are way more important than scoring 20-10 pts on a losing team.

Everybody says that K-Mart is going to be garbage because he isnt playing longside Kidd & the Nets anymore. hmmm.... its easy counter that point with the fact that K-Mart can easily become a better player in Denver due to the fact that Martin has never played alongside anything close to another bigbody worth a darn in New Jersey. K-Mart was often battling frontline by himself in New Jersey he no longer has to do that in Denver he has help.

And I dont care who you are, if you are a bigman you are at your best when you are playing alongside another decent bigman. Tim Duncan during his two MVP seasons was playing alongside David Robinson. Now while D.Rob was only a shell of his former self, he was an above average center by todays standards. He took alot of pressure off Duncan from the aspect TD didnt have to guard the best post players from night to night. Which helped TD stay out of foul trouble, use more energy on offense etc . Offensively, David Robinson spaced the floor for td with his mid-range shot, giving room for to operate down low without have to face two bigbodies on him etc. David Robinson absence was clearly felt in the Spurs-Lakers series this year. The Lakers were able to get Duncan in spots they normally wouldnt be able to if Robinson was playing alongside him because they were able to beat him up alot with both Shaq & Malone. And you can tell that Ducan energy was also drained lot more having to guard Shaq more then he has in past playoff series. So I mean the things that come with playing alongside another legit bigman is crucial to the success of any major bigbody.

Jerimane O'neal clearly showed the need to play alongside a legit big body in the eastern conference finals. Thats why the Pacers spent that whole series looking for that amswer like starting Austin Croshere after he had his big game, to take some of the pressure off O'neal. And that why the Pacers have spent a large part of this offseason trying to land Erick Dampier.

So imagine how not playing alongside another bigbody for the last past 3 or 4 seasons has slowed down the growth of Kenyon Martin. Now he gets to play alongside a pretty decent frontline and he imo will flourlish because of it. He will no longer have to guard the best bigbody on the opposing team alone for 48 minutes. He will no longer be the only bigbody banging on the boards etc. And while Andre Miller is no Jason Kidd, he is a decent point guard and knows how to set people up. And run a high octane, fast pace offense that suits Kenyon Martin's attributes the best.

amen. k-mart avg'd just under 17ppg this year, and his scoring has steadily increased every season. it even went up during a season that saw kidd miss a significant number of games. reef gives the same number of boards a game, but nowhere NEAR the tenacity k-mart shows in going after the ball. does SAR's extra 3ppg make him an upgrade? hardly, since you loose k-marts defense, tenacity and athleticism that complimented kidds game, just as kidd's game complimented k-mart. SAR would give the nets an extra 2 - 3 buckets a game, but all the intangibles that you loose with k-mart doesnt make it an upgrade.

What are you talking about? K mart didn't make the nets great, Jason Kidd did. And what great team did Martin make a champion? Beats the hell out of me, K mart is a good player, worth 3 draft picks, but he ain't worth all that money.

Well back to the topic, The nuggets did not overpay with three picks. I think those pics are even conditional.
