    It's regrettable that it takes bad news like that to get us thinking about what the guy has contributed to basketball.

    But even back in April when Jerry Colangelo was named to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and Fitzsimmons said: "I don't know why it took so long with everything he's done," we wondered if maybe it shouldn't have been the other way around.

    Not that Colangelo doesn't deserve to be in the Hall of Fame.

    But doesn't Fitzsimmons belong there, too?</div>
