Rocky Mountain RevueBig step: Oft-injured center shows he can play well when he is healthy

TAYLORSVILLE - If Curtis Borchardt is ever able to look back and pleasantly reflect on a long and successful NBA career, the 2004 Rocky Mountain Revue will undoubtedly be recognized as the launching pad.
In six games in the annual summer league, which concluded Saturday at Salt Lake Community College, Borchardt averaged 9.5 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.7 blocked shots.
More importantly, he averaged 36 minutes without suffering any kind of injury, other than the normal soreness that comes from participating in an intense two-week NBA refresher course.
"Basically, I just wanted to play - to get out there and play," Borchardt said. "I feel I did that. . . . I'm happy I was able to play over 30 minutes" per game.
In Phoenix's 88-71 victory over the Jazz in the final game of the Revue, Borchardt finished with 12 points, six rebounds and five blocked shots. He matched his summer-league high by playing 36 minutes.

Hope he can keep this up and carry momentum into the real season.

Curtis Borchardt could have a good season if he stays healthy. I don't expect him to be able to do that, but it would be great to see what he's capable of when healthy in the NBA. Summer League has been promising.

This is great news...I honestly thought Borchardt was the next great thing coming out of school...he was a monster at Stanford when he was heathly...He was a great shot blocker wtih fantastic range...hopefully he can recapture some of that promise

I think he will be a pretty decent player in the league. But he was to scared to play the 5 because of Shaq, don't like him because of that but he will put up pretty good numbers.

I agree, when he was coming into the league I thought he could be a very good player in the league with the center spot being so weak. I don't know much about his injury status, but he won't have to play many minutes with Okur and Boozer up front so I'm really hoping he will stay healthy.

Always was talented and had potential to be very good, I'm glad to see him playing well, and healthy. Hopefully this year he can play 70+ games, without many injuries. He'll play decent minutes behind Okur and Boozer. If he can stay healthy, this really makes their frontcourt deep.

Just as long as he is breaking out and not breaking bones I think we will do fine.
