The Ticket is reporting that the Mavericks and Sonics have agreed to trade Danny Fortson for Calvin Booth. Well, in the realm of huge offseason deals, this one ranks just a notch below the Shaq deal
Somebody posted this already...But it might of been in The Rumour Mill. It improves both teams, but not by much. Seattle had too many C's (James, Potapenko, Swift). They traded for a rebounding PF who they hoped can turn his career around and provide some depth at the PF spot, to help Collison and the undersized Evans. Good trade for the Mavs even though Booth is overpaid, but only Cuban can pull this off with sucess. He now has a true Center that is not a project, and does not have to score. Not Kurt Thomas, but should be a good fit.
wtf were the mavs thinking............ now our CAP is nuts............. And Booth is worse than Fortson, except for at Blocking.... Booth throws up a lot of airballs....... Mavs needed to trade someone, but not like this........ Mavs r screwed this season
We dont need him to shoot. at all. I would make a rule, for every shot he took, he would get 5 minutes subtracted from his playing time the next game. We just need him to play defensively. He's a big body, and a step forward IMO.

Mavs r screwed this season
I don't understand your statement about the "CAP is nuts". Both players have two years left at virtually the exact same salary. I don't see how that makes the cap situation any better or worse. The biggest difference between the two is that Booth is a shot blocker and Fortsons isn't. Dallas trades: PF Danny Fortson (3.9 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 0.2 apg in 11.1 minutes) Dallas receives: C Calvin Booth (4.9 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 0.4 apg in 17.0 minutes) Change in team outlook: +1.0 ppg, -0.6 rpg, and +0.2 apg. Seattle trades: C Calvin Booth (4.9 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 0.4 apg in 17.0 minutes) Seattle receives: PF Danny Fortson (3.9 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 0.2 apg in 56 games) Change in team outlook: -1.0 ppg, +0.6 rpg, and -0.2 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED Due to Dallas and Seattle being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Dallas and Seattle had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
fortson is better, but he didn't get enough minutes in dallas, so he was traded. fortson is going to be good for the sonics. calvin booth immediatly becomes the second option for the mavs after dirk nowitzki, booth needs the ball in his hands to be effective, booth and nowitzki are going to be the best 2 punch in 2004... JUST KIDDING, the mavs are going to be a very average team this year, they should have re-signed nash...
Yea they are basically the same except Both can Block shots. Maybe theres another trade in the works.
booth? I'm not sure if i'm familiar with this guy booth but i'm all for the improvements of teams. I also think it would be bad for fortsont o have to stay on a team thats rebulding when at this very moment hs trying to rebuild his career so that he can be dominant as foreshadowed by his past. ( wow ) I'm loving all the move this off season. I cant wait to see how all these teams aquisitions turn out this off season. I think a response to all these off-season aquisitions was best worder by a person here on JBB that i cant remember there name at this time. The statement basically stated that these gms and people that work with these teams know whats best for their respected teams.

GMs gamble all the time...
I wouldn't of done it if I was the Mavericks. Fortson is a pretty good player and didn't play that much, he had the same stats as Booth and Fortson played less time.

Don Nelson would not play Fortson because he didn't seem to grasp the offense. When Booth was here a few years ago, Don Nelson would play him because he did the things Nelson wanted on the offensive side of the ball. It's like Marquis Daniels, yeh, the guy can grab eight boards, yeh, he can be a shut down defender, but once her started scoring thirty points a game, bam, he's in the starting lineup. With Nellie, it's all about the O. Hopefully, we can have good offensive players, like Daniels and Howard, that can also play defense, and they will actually get playing time. Look how little playing time Najera gets?
Yeah Fortson hardly ever played.I didnt know thats why Nellie never played him.I never knew he didnt run the offense right.
Hey Im not too upset about this trade, yet I dont think its the best one they could make.. Just a thought.. who hit the winning shot to beat the Jazz in the playoffs in 2001
