<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">SALT LAKE CITY -- For Dale Davis, Tuesday was a day of hope. For Dan Dickau, it was a day of sadness.

Both were leaving the Trail Blazers, the pawns in a trade with Golden State that brings Nick Van Exel to Portland. But both had different emotions.

Davis, 35, who had wanted out of Portland since losing his starting center job in February to Theo Ratliff, said he looked at Tuesday's trade as a chance to get a fair shake at winning a starting role.

"I think it's a good day," Davis said from his home in Indiana. "It's going to be good to be able to compete for a job, I'll tell you that. I just wanted to be in a situation where I am able to contribute and still have the option to play a few more years at a high level.

"The situation here in Portland, they seemed like they were rebuilding, and I just don't think the franchise was looking for me to be a part of what they were doing."

Dickau, 25, a guard who grew up in Vancouver and recently had a child with his wife, Heather, was crushed when he received the trade news in the locker room before the Blazers played Seattle at the Rocky Mountain Revue at Salt Lake Community College.

Dickau said he had hoped to win the backup point guard spot over 2004 lottery pick Sebastian Telfair and was looking forward to his first healthy summer league since coming into the NBA in 2002. After the team ran onto the court Tuesday, Dickau stayed alone in the locker room before emerging nearly 30 minutes later with bloodshot eyes.

"It's hard to take right now," Dickau said. "But at the same time, I'm going to take it in a positive light, knowing that it wasn't meant to be right now. . . .

    Wow, two totally different reactions.

Dale Davis-- I love this guy's attitude. He is not coming to the Warriors to settle for the back up role, he wants to be a starter and is going to work his ass off for it. With Foyle and Davis battling for that Center starting role, it will only help both to step up their games.

Dickeau--I feel sorry for the kid. He was playing at home and took the news of being traded pretty hard. He came out of the lookerroom with bloodshot eyes. But than again, its the NBA and you got to expect this.

I'm going to love D-Square at center [IMG] BTW Dickau probably wasn't crying. Don't forget that he was a Jailblazer, the bloodshot eyes could have been from all that herb, man. Thx for the article Rudeezy! Just because Rasheed ain't there doesn't mean there's no weed in Portland [IMG]

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Rudeezy:</div><div class="quote_post">LOL...give the guy a little bit of credit.:P</div>Dickau's going to play with a coach that loved him back in college and he's teammates with Speedy "I'm a walking injury waiting to happen" Claxton. He'll get his minutes. The question is will his size and lack of speed be a factor? Same case with Fisher. BTW Dickau can shoot the lights out, he just never really had consistent minutes to prove himself. I mean it's difficult for a 6'0 guard that isn't super quick and will have a hard time shooting over taller/longer defenders. That's just asking to be exploited on a mismatch.

Dickau was quality at Gonzaga, but I'm not sure how he'll handle the NBA. I think he's had limited action so far, and I think he can put in some quality minutes with the W's. He's got a shot, no doubt about that, but his handles and speed leave something to be desired. I think if he can more clever with the ball, and force himself to pick up a step or two, while playing with Speedy, he'll be more than effective for the W's.

Monty's going to play him. So hopefully he'll take advantage, and he can let his wife retire from being a Blazer cheerleader(no joke).

He's a good ballhandler actually, his defense isn't that great, his passing/court vision is only okay. I think at Gonzaga he was like a combo guard or just a shoot first, pass second type of point guard. All I know is this guy has a great shot, but nba quality defense could put an end to his type of game. I think he could do well like you said Yayarea if he plays off his strengths and adjusts his game to make up for his lack of mobility.

Waah! Cry baby. Get your butt in the gym and play ball. You will need to earn a back up role. I figured DD would be upset, not Dickau.
