I was expecting it. Babcock wanted to match it but had to get MLSE's approval, to check if he was worth the money they would spend on him.

I was hoping we would match even though im not a huge fan of his inconsistancy or contract, he'll be a big boost off the bench and will give us a good perimter defender.

Yea, at least he was a consistent defender, and he can hit the outside shot, if we're going to be running the break I hope he can go back to the 14 PPG 43% shooting Mo-Pete.

    Still, too much money

That great news for the raptors. It will probable make vince happy since I heard he went to managment and requested they match the offer. Mo has a hell of a jump shot imo the times I have seen him play and is a huge part of this raptors team good move matching.

This is good news and bad news (if true). The good news is our team looks better with him coming off the bench (weaker without him), the bad news is he will be receiving too much money. If he is getting 3 yrs for 15 mil, he better play well, because in the future this will look like a bad move if he doesn't.

we had to resign him...he was a sick 3 pt shooter, but for some reason, no one ever guarded him beyond the 3pt arch. still, it was too much money, but im glad they matched

Is there a link to this story? I haven't seen it posted anywhere else...If it's true, I think it's way too much $$$. Then again if he's allowed to run he could surprise some people.

Good move in keeping him...he is going to bounce back and have a MUCH better year than last. His defense is always there...with more consistent playing time he will play much better

I remember him playing his best when VC was injured a couple of seasons ago and the Raptors made the play offs that year without VC.

The thing is, we can't offer anybody $5 million a season. We only have about $1 million left in cap room to spend and the only reason we can match the offer and pay him $5 mil/season is because we have his "bird" right that comes with draft picks.

it's not a problem McGrady^1 [IMG] I don't know if Peterson wanted to stay in Toronto though.. When he signed the offer sheet with the New Orleans he said something like the Raptors not being loyal to him...

Just another big contract that we don't need. We're never going to be able to have any cap room to sign free agents if we keep signing borderline-mediocre players ro big contracts. I thought they would've have learned their lesson by now with the AD, Alvin and Jerome signings, leaving us with no cap flexibilty to this day.

This is only a 3 year deal. The problem with JYD, AD, and Alvin's contracts were that they were for something stupid like 5 to 6 years. With the amount of money that is being spent on FAs this summer, it seems in line with what other teams are willing to pay. I think MoPete will have a better year if the raps can get out and run the floor. He's best offensively when he is in the flow of the game. The slow down offenses from O'Neil were really hard to get into a flow with.

One thing Mo is great at is finishing off the break.

I hate this. The contract Mo Pete is due to receive is freaking $5 million each year. With that kind of money, the Raps could have gotten some much-needed inside help. After all, you have Jerom Moiso backing up whoever starts at center, and that is not very optimistic. Babcock is looking like a terrible mistake to me now. First, he picks Araujo with a high pick, then he goes and re-signs Mo Pete for a ridiculous price. What's next? He's gonna trade Bosh for Kurt Thomas? Scott Layden in the making IMO.

Actually VinKanaddy, Mopete does want to play in TO. I saw it on TV. He was in wonderland and the journalist asked him several questions. He said he loves TO and would love to play here. and then when asked that the raps will match, he said "I hope so"

You get the bird rights to a player once you've had them on your team for atleast 3 years. So if a team is over the cap they can still sign a player to a max contract if they've had a player for 3 years, like Mo and the Raps.
