<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Then the expert might examine Hassell, who walked into the room holding two red Blazers baseball caps, but never put either one on his head. "Fear of commitment," our expert would say. "He's saying Portland, but he's not wearing it." And our expert certainly would notice that coach Maurice Cheeks folded his arms in front of him. "Classic defensive stance," our expert might say. "He's being careful with this whole thing." Or maybe Cheeks was just getting comfortable. Absurd, right? Right? Well, also try this: The event climaxed with someone announcing there was about to be a nice "photo op." Which only meant that Hassell and Patterson were about to take turns picking up a blue pen and signing a piece of paper.</div> Full Story Note the quote was taken from the middle of the story. Analysts may be suggesting that alot of people in the portland orginization and even hassel feel uncomfortable with the situation at this point. Patterson because he doesnt no what his position with the team will be next year will he start or will hassel? Hassel not wanting to really comite to being a blazer yet by not really putting on the hat possible his heart is still in minnesota? Then Cheeks not being able to really say anything about the matter much just being careful to see how things go.
From that quote, it seems like Hassell doesn't really want to play for Portland. But why would he sign a offer sheet with them when he knows the Timberwolves might not match? Unless he does want to play for the Blazers or he knows that the Timberwolves would match the offer.
if you had a chance to make $620k a year and be happy or sign for $4.5 million a year and be unhappy most NBA players would go for the money
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Oneinpower:</div><div class="quote_post">if you had a chance to make $620k a year and be happy or sign for $4.5 million a year and be unhappy most NBA players would go for the money</div> He wouldn't be getting 620k a year, if he signed with Minnesota. Minnesota was willing to pay him about 2 to 2.5 million a year.
Let me give you a hypathetical situation. Lets say you prove to a team who went to the western conference championship that you are there best defender and are only improving. You have a one year contract with them at the time you are proving this wouldnt you think they would want to sign you before your contract ends or at least make you an offer? Well continuing they dont. Now you are a sought after free agent by three teams all in your conference and division the nuggets, blazers, and wolves. All the teams have made dramatic improvements over this off season to be better and prove the can be winners. The nuggets have been tring to arange a sign and trade for you since the off season started. They have offered a big man to the team you are on, but they said no. Wouldnt that give you a big head and make you start thinking your worth more than you really are? Then there is a team called the blazers who are intent on signing you. They offer you a 16 million dollar deal. Then since you have a big head over all these teams wanting you you demand more money the full MLE the team say no, but they raise the money a little to 20 something million over 6 years. You look at it and say yeah I will go for this because you are young guy drafted in the second round that has never seen this type of money, but at that time you are looking at the money not the team your going through. After you sign the deal and know you have that money secure you are thinking o everyone wanted me so my original team is gona match this deal easy win win situation right? Then they dont match it he got his money, but not the team he wanted. I dont really think it was him being greedy as all these teams fighting for him giving him a big head. I do think he really wanted to stay with us though and thought the wolves would match easy over what he had did for them and how much they liked him and wanted him there. They still might, but its slim. So I do think he still wanted to be with the wolves he only signed this offer sheet with the blazers because he was so positive the wolves would match it right away that he didnt stop to think he may be a blazer next season.

Maybe, maybe not... maybe he realizes their is a strong chance the Wolves are going to match the offer... which translates into more money in lamest terms.
yes, hassel wants to be a blazer the money. just like any other player would. if the timberwolves can top the offer the blazers gave him he would sign rite back with us the timberwolves.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Hassell was quoted in the Portland Oregonian as saying "I want to be here [in Portland]. If I didn't want to be here, I wouldn't have signed the contract."</div> So that answers the question of this thread.
I don't understand why Portland wants yet another SG/SF. They already have Anderson, Miles, Woods, Outlaw, Patterson, Khryapa and three PGs. Who are they gonna play in frontcourt?
