The week's big surprise from Carmelo Anthony was not his gold-medal guarantee. Hardly. Anyone who follows 'Melo knows he came into the league with Hall of Fame self-confidence. If anyone on Team USA was going to promise success on Day 1, it figured to be Anthony.

'Melo proudly added "10 pounds of muscle" this offseason.
    The surprise, then?

It's simply how big 'Melo looks.

You'll see for yourself Saturday afternoon when Team USA's exhibition against Puerto Rico airs on ESPN at 1 p.m. Until then, trust us: 'Melo has bulked up nicely thanks to an off-season workout regiment that has taken his poundage into the 230s. He played closer to 220 as a rookie.

Now he looks like he's going to crush smaller defenders, internationally or domestically.

"Ten pounds of muscle," he said proudly.

Which means you can say one more thing to link 'Melo and LeBron James.

    Neither one looks under 21.</div>

I already thought he was big enough, but I guess adding 10 pounds of muscle doesn't hurt..

He was on Letterman the other night and I really couldnt tell if he gained anyweight because his clothes were all baggy but that is good for him if he added 10 pounds of muscle..he should be an all star this year, he should of been one last year..10 pounds of muscle wont hurt him at all..

Nah, he was actually pretty skinny as a rookie. Now he's really going to have an advantage over defenders with size, speed and muscle. I'm just itching for the season to start.

Every rookie is always skinny and adds bulk in their career (MJ, Carter, T-Mac, Kobe etc.). Carmelo looked bigger than all of them in their rookie years.

Yeah, he definitely looked bigger than them all, but he was still pretty skinny.
