Stats of which to be proud?? Whatever. The ?68 RAIDERS lost to the ?68 Jets. You remember the ?68 Jets, don?t you? Wait. I just remembered with whom I am dealing? You?ve heard of the ?68 Jets, haven?t you? That was the team that Joe ?Willy? Namath guaranteed would win the Super Bowl game against the much ?better? NFC team. Hmmm. He was right. That?s the team that knocked the RAIDERS out of the playoffs that year? And it was in the AFL Championship game. 1968 was also the second of eleven futile seasons for the down and out Eagles who couldn?t muster a winning season from the 1967 through 1977 seasons. Unless my memory fails me, the RAIDERS were in eight or nine Championship games in that stretch. Nobody crows about that, only about the Super Bowl wins. ?We?re Number 3 or 4? doesn?t have the same ring, does it? Contrary to popular opinion, the History of the AFL/NFL/ does not begin in 1980. Speaking of 1980? Weren?t the RAIDERS in the Super Bowl playing against? Nah. That?s too easy. Just funnin? with you youngsters. If you want a perspective on football, or life for that matter, you have to look beyond your own experience. You don?t have enough of either
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (TheBeef)</div><div class='quotemain'>I think its a positive thing for a young team with a lot of returning talent to look at the schedule and see they are good enough to beat everyone on there, even if they failed to get it done in the end....</div> we if ya look at it that way, sire itd be positive. Al, im sure if i was around back in the 60s, id be able to agree/disagree, but im way off. what i think i know is that the 68 raiders lost to the Packers in the Super Bowl, not to the Jets. but hey, i wasnt around then and havent looked at a stat book of that kind in many years(when youre only 15, 8 years is a while)
the '67 Raiders lost to the Packers in the Super Bowl, thus eliminating them from beating every opponent....the '68 Raiders did lose to the "Guarantee" Jets in the AFC Championship game, but had beaten those same Jets earlier in the season....reguardless of whether you win the Super Bowl or not, beating every team you play is a nice accomplishment, its only happened 8 times since the merger, so its rare too....
A page was missing out of Beef's trivia book, but I found it. What amazing feat did Pittsburgh accomplish this year that only one other team has been able to do before. A hint....the 1979 Chargers were the only other one to do it.
Im not missing that page....I know the answer but I wont spoil the fun for everyone else....Ill PM the answer to you so to keep the drama going....
I use www.pro-football-reference.com for most research I do....I just happen to know the answer to this question from research i did long ago....there is a lot of stuff i don't know, but I vowed long ago that if I was confronted with a football fact I didnt know, that i would immediately research it and put it in the vault....so I tell people when they quiz me that you are very likely to stump me, since you will eventually get so obscure that its nearly impossbile, but no one will ever get me again on the same question....
i went there n still couldnt find the answer. i use this site http://www.jt-sw.com/football/ basically the exact same thing. but i usually dont know how to look for this stuff
He gave you the two teams, so go there and start with the Steelers, go over all the major info, the roster, the stats, the shedule, the record and pay special attention to the playoffs....then go to the '79 Chargers and do the same thing....I will tell you it has nothing to do with the teams record from a previous year...
For those of you keeping score and dying to know, Beef was right. If no one else gets it by Friday, I'll let the research master answer it for you to see.
i think i got it... after hours of research... and the use of that site.. i realized one thing the beat both the LA Rams and the Steelers that year.... badly both were in the super bowl the steelers beat the Eagles and patriots.... pretty badly... both of them are in the super bowl. now i didnt loomat other season to see if this worked at all.. but thats the best i can come up with... they both beat the super bowl contenders in their season.
lots of teams have beat both Super Bowl participants in one season....but you are so close its rudiculous....just take it one step farther and you will have it....
well as i sadi they both beat them badly... the closest was this years 34-20...over the pats... so beating them by 10+ ponts? 14+?
you got it, the only 2 teams in NFL history to beat both Super Bowl participants by double digits....well done, that was not an easy one to find....
