Reported on www.hoopshype.com the story says the lakers are making a small push for kidd. Though they seem to be a long shot to get him do to there reluctance to accept his large contract with questions about his health still floating about. He will imo have the best chance of becoming a laker if the lakers could some way work out a trade that would send a big contract on the team to the nets someone like a brian grant or someone who has past there prime and is earning alot of money may intrest them in making a trade for kidd. Though that most likely not gona happen since the nets are looking to cut cap so they would want a trade for a player in the last year of his deal rather than someone who has several years left like grant. The lakers could probable gain there intrest though if they offered a young guy like possible either odam or butler though that is unlikely since they again go back to the subject that they dont want kidds contract. I dont really see them making a large push for kidd they will be in the kidd sweepstake what the nuggets were in the kobe one a team that is a possibility, but wont be looked at much.
Now wouldn't that be special...Kidd in the Laker Lineup.I Don't know if that will happen, but think of the possibillites there.Kidd and Kobe. That would be quite a combo there.
I haven't visited the Lakers forum in awhile. Wow, the Lakers actually might have a chance at getting him. Man, the best thing that could happen even if Kidd is declining. Team players are always great to have.

Then it was reporeted that kidd didnt demand a trade. So the rumors are real shakey at best. The Lakers said they werent interested in kidd. Kobe & Kidd contract together would kill their cap. 2ndly, inorder for the Nets to get close to equal value and for the salaries to matchup, the Lakers would have to include Odom in the deal. Its really know way foir the Lakers to get around not giving up Odom. But Iam not even for sure if the Nets want his contract. Everybody talks about giving up Payton & Butler but the Nets are going to want more than more then just future cap space in return for Kidd. And thats all Payton & Butler would be to the Nets. Payton wouldnt be a Net past the end of the 2004-05 season. And Butler has similar attributes as Jefferson. So with the Nets about to max out RJ why would they bring in a similar player for the long hall, which means they would let Butler walk more than likely when his rookie contract is up, so all they would be getting is cap space realistically. Yes the Nets want cap space, but in a deal for kidd you can rest assure they want some young proven talent they has potential to be with the team for the long hall. So a deal between the Lakers & Nets for kidd is very unlikely.
i didn't think anything of it when i read the espn.com article, but then i was watching the southern california sports report, which is acutally inside the staples center and airs all of them laker home games, said it is being talked about and the trade would include gary payton, rick fox and devean george. i did not hear if that was soley for jason kidd or if someone else was going to be thrown in, i wouldn't mind a jason collins or jarron, but i dont know the salary situation then, i personally think we could do better, gary payton should be better by far this year and if this trade were to happen i would rather wait until the all-star break to put it in consideration. plus i think devean george had a very very bad year and was going in thinknig he was going to start so he didn't try as hard in practice so he didn't get enough time in the game so he never got into a groove, but i want george to stay a laker because i think he has the quality to be a player of grant hill quality, maybe not as good but their games could be alike.

I like George...I don't like some of his decisions to shoot the three constantly, but if he could become more aggressive and drive to the hoop, he'd be a nice player to have on any team. The few times he did drive hard, he actually leaped over a few guys and surprised me...so I think the Lakers should keep him. I don't care much for Fox at all though...and as far as Payton goes, I think he will play twice as good as he did last year because of the new offense, and because he'll be able to drive the lane (it won't be clogged up with the defense hanging around Shaq, and to stop Kobe from driving). Payton is great at penetrating the opposing team's defense and kicking it out to someone...so he'll do good. With Kidd's surgery, he may or may not do so well...so I think we should wait also...maybe see how he's doing halfway through. The only problem with that is if the Nets realize he's doing great, they'll never trade him for GP and some of our other players. So who knows.
I got this information on ESPN Insider (Thanks "number 8" from The Wire). Kidd Wants To Be A Laker! ESPN Insider "Don't count the Mavericks out of the Jason Kidd sweepstakes just yet. In 60 days, the team will be allowed to trade Jason Terry again, and sources claim they made the deal with Atlanta with an eye toward landing Kidd down the road if he proves to be healthy. Terry and Alan Henderson or Christian Laettner in exchange for Kidd works under the cap and gives the Nets back a starting point guard as well as significant cap relief. However, league sources claim the Lakers, not the Mavericks, are the team Kidd really wants to play for. Look for the Kidd camp to keep pushing the Lakers to send the expiring contracts of Gary Payton and Rick Fox along with a young player like Caron Butler or Kareem Rush to the Nets in return for Kidd. The deal would give the Nets lots of cap relief, along with a promising young player, and give the Lakers the best backcourt in the NBA. A combo of Kidd, Kobe Bryant, Lamar Odom, Brian Grant, and Vlade Divac would immediately make the Lakers the favorites in the West. Why wouldn't the Lakers just pull the trigger now? Because owner Jerry Buss is worried about the five years, $90 million left on Kidd's contract, as well as Kidd's long-term health. The Lakers essentially would have four players making the max next year -- and two of them (Kidd and Grant) have chronic knee problems. If the Lakers and Mavs don't come through, however, Kidd might not be going anywhere. Other teams with interest include the Sonics and Blazers, but sources claim he doesn't want to play for either."
I'm with Buss on this one too. It would be awesome to have Jason Kidd join our Lakers. but the main concern is his health. Especially his knee problems that could limit his playing time and his effectiveness up and down the court. I would risk pulling the plug on this totally. But then again, having Kidd and Bryant together as our backcourt wouldn't be BAD AT ALL.
We are still risking on Malone..although not nearly as much money as kidd..I think kidd will service us well and I think he would be able to stay healthy too..all he would really have to do is play D and pass..he could be a 3rd or 4th option on offense
It's a risk worth taking for the Lakers, IMO. After the Shaq trade they have a couple of young players to entice the Nets, as well as expiring contracts. Say it's Payton, Fox, Rush, Cook and a 1st... This would probably be the deal, because Butler would be redundant in Jersey w/ Richard Jefferson. The Nets would run with Payton/Rush/Jefferson/Cook/Collins in the East, while stockpiling future-firsts. Kidd/Vujacic Bryant/George? Odom/Butler Grant/Walton Divac/Medvedenko That would be the best team in basketball.
As I mentioned in the other post on this topic, I would go for the trade if it involved trading Payton, Fox, and Rush for Kidd. that would be a good trade IMO for the Lakers. Trading a 36 year old PG for a 31 year old "true" point guard would be great
I would do it because I think Kidd fits in better for the new Laker offense. Kidd's game is actually a lot different than Payton's. He's more of a passer and Payton has a Kobe-like game (one on one). As for George, I'd trade him too. Last year I would've said that he'd be a good player. But he had an ENTIRE season to prove himself as a starter and he did virtually nothing. Having 4 hall of famers in the lineup should've helped him because he would get the easiest shots.
Kobe and Kidd together will take up their cap until the rest of the decade. Your not going to get Kidd by just giving away Payton,Fox and George. Your going to need to add Odom too. You arnt going to get the 5th best player in the league for a cheap price ya know. Kidd may improve Kobes game though and if the lakers end up winning a championship soon people willl probably say its only because of Jason Kidd. Just my 2 cents.

Kidd couldn't do it with K-Mart, Jefferson and his cast...so team Jason Kidd with Bryant and Odom, obviously the better duo...and they, not himself, will win his ring.
Now with Payton traded to boston. I really don't see the Lakers getting Kidd. But I really want to have Kidd as a Laker though.
