The is no question in my mind the sixers have had some of the most talented players to ever step foot on a bball court play for them through there storied history. Having several retired numbers.
(6) Julius Erving
(10) Maurice Cheeks
(13) Wilt Chamberlain
(15) Hal Greer
(24) Bobby Jones
(32) Billy Cunningham
(34) Charles Barkley

Along with three former rookies of the year.1957-58: Woody Sauldsberry
1959-60: Wilt Chamberlain,1996-97: Allen Iverson. They have had a total of 10 hall of famers play for them through there history Bob McAdoo
George Yardley, Al Cervi, Hal Greer, Adolph Schayes, Moses Malone ,Bailey Howell, Julius Erving, Billy Cunningham, Wilt Chamberlain.

So my question for my fellow sixer fans viewing this thread is how would you rank the all time sixers players if you had to make a top 10 list. If I had to rank them by top 10 though it would be tough here is how it would look.

1. Wilt Chamberline- Only player in the history of the game to score 100 points. Made it to the finals with philly several times only to be beat on many occasions by long time rival boston celtic great bill russel. Finally captured a world title when he was traded to the los angeles lakers . He is without question the most dominating force ever to play the game. Also holds the most mvp awards of any sixer of all time with 4.

2. Dr. J- By far this guy was one of the greatest of all time. NBA 50 greatest players list. Hall of famer. Retired number all the things he could do he did. He also helped us capture our last world title. My favorite moment of all time was watching Dr. J take the ball in the air in one hand on the right side of the hoop. Holding it out of bounds in mid air and bringing it back around the other side of the rim for the layup.

3. Moses Malone- MVP in 82-83 season was probable one of the greatest big men ever to play for the team. Along with doctor J helping the sixers capture the world title in the late 80's he earned my respect as soon as I saw every great thing he had done for the team.

4. Maurice Cheeks- By far our best point guard in sixer history I can calmly say that. He is ranked I believe second all time in sixers history in assists. He was a huge part of the sixers in the 80's along with the 2 guys before him on this list. Now has extended his great career into coaching.

5. Charles Barkely- Couldnt put him higher on this list over cheeks do to the fact he didnt win a title. He was one of the greatest players ever to play the game without getting a title. Part of the nba dream team that won the gold medal. MVP in that season with the suns when his team was called the team of destiny and would have gotten a ring if they faced anyone, but jordan in the finals.

6. Bob McAdoo- What can you say about this guy. He is a hall of famer one of the greatest guys ever to put on a sixers uniform. Not sure if he is on the top 50 of all time list, but he should be. Big part of sixers history can not go without being recognized.

7. Billy Cunningham- Another hall of famer. Was a big part of the ealry sixers team. Has had his number retired by the team and now hangs in the wachovia arena along with all the other great sixers.

8. Bobby Jones- Porbable one of the greatest players ever to play on a sixer bench. Has his number retired and hangs in along with the player before hims in wachovia. Sixth man of the year in the 82-83 season him along with mckie are the only sixers ever to win sixth man of the year.

9. Hal Greer- Hall of famer and has his number retired. Just that puts him on this list. Alone.

10. Allen Iverson- I have to put him on this list. MVP rookie of the year one of only three 76ers ever to do that in his career. ALL star mvp a guy that helped bring to cultures together. A leader who has to be on this list.

So your list?

Putting Wilt Chamberlain based on the fact that he was traded, and suceeded over there is stupid. That is basing his game on two teams, if just basing his time with the 76ers then, he would be number three in my opinion.

My List

1.) Julius Erving
2.) Moses Malone
3.) Wilt Chamberlain
4.) Maurice Cheeks
5.) Charles Barkely
6.) Bob McAdoo
7.) Billy Cunningham
8.) Bobby Jones
9.) Hal Greer
10.) Allen Iverson

I don't believe Billy Cunningham ever got the credit that he deserved, that's why I ranked him so high. Not only has he had an phenomenal career with Philadelphia and won 2 Championships in the process, he even coached the 76ers as well. So that was the icing on the cake for me, he did a lot for this franchise.

1. Erving
2. Wilt
3. AI
4. Cheeks
5. Barkley

I don't know how some of you are saying Allen isn't in the top 3. He is way better than alot of these guys from back then. I'm lookng at skills though not acomplishments. But still he is an all-star every year and he is one of the top 3 scorers in the league every year.

I cant believe u guys are putting Allen as the 10th best Sixer ever. Thats disrepectful to AI.

1. Wilt- Scored 100 points and 50 PPG as a Sixer. The 2nd best player of all time and the best Sixer of all time. Truly an amaxing player. Im sure you all know why I put him at #1 so I wont bore you [IMG]

2. Dr. J- Helped bring our last title of any of the 4 sports to Philly. He was clutch. An amazing dunker and truly one of the all-time greats. Not to mentino an exciting game.

3. Moses Malone- An amazing duo along with Dr. J. Not a big fan of him but I respect his game. I believe he did more for the Rockets then what he did for Philly though.

4. Charles Barkley- He had his greatest seasons with the Suns. Too bad it couldnt of been with the Sixers. Brang some glory to the city of Philly.

5. Allen Iverson- He was the shortest player ever to win an MVP. Little Guys with skills are always respected by me. One of the only all time great Sixers to actually be loyal to our team. All his glory is HERE. Not anywhere else. Helped bring us to the finals but couldn't defeat the Laker dynasty. His succes here is what makes me rank him this high the most.

Judging by your age, you probably were too young to actually know the game back when these guys played, as are most of us. We can only judge by accomplishments on most of these guys, even if we've watched tapes of some of them we cannot say if their skill level was great. You need to follow a professional athletes whole or close to it career to determine his skill level, as it does evolve.

Basing the statistics of such greats like Wilt Chamberlain is all we can do, there are no tapes of him I believe, only radio broadcasts and some pictures. So word of mouth, and statistics is all we have to rely onto.

We gotta wait till iverson career is all said and done before we can put him up higher, because im too young to really know how great they were back in thier day but ive watched tapes to see, when iverson career is over he will be top 5, even though i like him so much i cant see my self putting him ahead of Wilt, Dr.j and others.

I thought I was actually placing him relatively high. Though I agree with you AI is great and is a big part of the sixers history and present. His career is not fully played out yet and you must wait for that to happen before you can make a good analyses of how good a player he truly is. All the players I put ahead of AI on my list are all of famers/ and or have there number retired or have won a title with the sixers.

True its not like AI wont be a hall of famer and its not like his number wont be retired, but it has not happened yet. That is why I believe we need to let his career play out before I raise him higher on my list. A couple of the players ahead of him on that list also were part of the nba 50th greatest players of all time list. As well as the dream team.

AI's rank as a sixer will rise imo when he retires because then we will truly appreciate his talent when we see his number raised into the rafters and him be inducted into the hall of fame. He will also be pretty high up on that list later in his career because he is currently the number 3 spot holder for career points per game average.

He will also probable win a gold medal this summer only adding to his great leagacy when those things happen his rank rises imo. We cant say he will be higher on the list at this point because although it will probable happen 99.9% out of a 100 it will that he will do all those things. By going ahead of our selfs would be pure speculation and a disrespect to those players who have already done it.

Yes Sasha, but it is the new evolution and the guys now a days are so much better and more athletic. I'm almost 25 and I do remember most of these guys and seen them play. Allen would have been one of the top 3 players in Erving's league. Even if Allen don't win a championship he will be in the #3 spot on that list. Also I guess you can possibly already say that he has an olympic gold metal at least.

In Erving's league, meaning with guys such as Wes Unseld, Bill Walton, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Moses Malone, and Irving himself? That's five guys ahead of him already, plus there were good players at the time like Maurice Cheeks, and up-and-coming Magic Johnson, Elvin Hayes, and many more. Like I said before, in order to measure someones true potential against hall of fame players, that player's career needs to be over. It is only fair to Iverson himself if he is measured in the same ranks of those great players when his career is over, when he might get a championship ring among other accomplishments. For all we know, Iverson could go down to a Grant Hill like injury and never play again.

Shaq takes everything to the limits, he probably thinks that he is the greatest thing that ever happened to basketball. Don't get me wrong, Iverson is good, but his career needs to be finished before any consideration on top lists can be considered.

I agree with that. Dr. J, Wilt Chamberline, Shaq, MJ, Mgic, and Larry. Just that proves that AI is not one of the 5 greatest players of all time not to mention players like bill russel and all of them.

Shaq believes he is the second greatest player ever to play the game of basketball. After of course wilt chamberline. I like him and all, but his mouth often gets him in trouble he talks way to much. Like that joke he made about Yao that got him in trouble and the interview in miami were he said he never played with a guard as talented as him basically insulting kobe and now teammate eddie jones.

AI like I said before cant really be judged yet because he is not a hall of famer yet or one of the nba 50th greatest players yet and does not have his number retired yet. Though all of those things probable will happen. Judging him now saying that he already has done those things when he hasent would be pure speculation.
