Ok I am not a hawks fan, but dont see much going on in this forum so thought I would start a thread to stur things up. What do you guys see the hawks doing with the team next year with the aquirememnt of harrington and possibly dampier or swift. I believe they wont make the playoffs, but will have a decent season. Harrington is a player with great abilities was very deserving of a starting role in the pacers team, but do to the presence of reggie miller never got that chance. He can put up 20 points next season for the hawks imo. Also roughly 6.5 rebounds and 5 assists. He will be a big peace of the teams future and will help it out alot. Then add jason terry to the mix who is signed for the next few years not a pure point guard by any means, but a very talented player and you have yourself a very good back court. Terry is a shoot first pass second guard so I see him doing a lot of scoring for the hawks next year probable averaging 17 points a game with 6 assists. He will have a couple good players to pass to next year. Then they have the possibly aquirment of either swift or dampier this will offer them a very good big man to help out the team. Either of the two can put up points for the team so I say either of them can average at least 13 points for the team next year if they come here since they will be either the second or third scoring option for the team. Then they have there draft picks added to the mix childress is a relatively big guard so I see him being able to play either the 2 or 3 for them if he wants a starting role the three is his most likely position. He can shoot the jumper for the team very well and provide defensive matchups that will favor the hawks do to his size. I am not sure how tall he is, but that afro adds at least three inches. They also have a new coach on the team that may bring some new coaching methods to make them a good defensive team possibly. He can mabye motivate the team to do well and possibly make a playoff push though I dont think that will happen as there are to many teams to compete with thi year. Overall I see there record being 37-45 and them being the probable 9th or 10th seed in the east just missing the playoffs imo. What do you think the hawks will be capable of next year and who do you think they may aquire in the off season dampier? or swift? or nothing?
With the key additions of Childress, Harrington, Josh Smith, Royal Ivey, Donta Smith and possible Eric Dampier or Stromile Swift, this team is looking totally different than it did last year. The rookies are going to play a big part in the success of the hawks, Childress has shown he can play anywhere from the point to the SF and do it succesfully at the college level and most probably he will be able to in the NBA but not as quick. Josh Smith has shown a lot of potential in the summer league games and has made the teams that passed him up because he doesnt have a "good right hand" in the game. Royal Ivey played along with TJ Ford in texas and is a defensive specialist who brings a lot to this team for a second round draft pick. Donta Smith is a great player according to his former coach Todd Franklin, he has a 7 foot wingspan and stands 6'7" and can play any position from PG to SF. Al Harrington can be a 20, 5, 5 guy if given the oppurtunity and he has learned a lot in his years playing in the NBA by playing with many great players (Reggie Miller, Jermaine O'neal, I think Rik Smits). With the starting role and being the main guy I think he can bring in some wins with the core group he's got. Swift would have more of an upside than Dampier IMO he's a lot younger and has played for a great coach, Hubie Brown. Swift has had good season if not great in his 4 years of NBA but Dampier on the other hand has had one. Throwing a long term deal to an old guy isnt to attractive to me so I'd take Swift because he is more athletic and younger but still gets the job done and could possibley sell tickets. All in all I think the Hawks will get 7th or 8th seed in the playoffs but make an early exit. I think there season record will be 41-41.
They have a talented rookie class coming in, but they won't make the playoffs due to the lack of experience and leadership among their team. Even if they get Swift or Dampier, having an inconsistent Al Harrington as your primary offensive player would cause trouble. I see their record being something in the range of 25-35 wins, and another lottery appearance.
I think that they will have around 30 wins next season. They have a young team but they can manage to work together. Josh Smith should be an excellent rookie.
well they'll probably improve from last year. they also have good rookies so i see them winning 34 or around that.
They will be in the top 5 worst teams in the league right next to the Clips, Bobcats, and the Bulls. This team and their fans just eventually have to start realizing to go support another team and give up. I fell bad for them, when is it going to end?
Well you have your 2, 3 and 4 Posistions set, as well as their backups. They need to get a Center that can start and rebound, not Collier, he'll be a good backup. They also need a Point Guard to distribute the ball. Shammond Williams would be a nice signing, for a backup. I still think they'll be one of the bottom 3 in the East.
The Hawks roster is slowly starting to take shape, but they have very little chance of making the playoffs this season. They should be headed for another lottery appearance, and will probably be one of the worst teams in the league again. If the Hawks want to temporarily stop the rebuilding process to get more wins, they should throw some money towards Dampier. They need a C, and Dampier could score and rebound for them. With Dampier and the other new faces, they should get some more fans to their games.
If I was a Hawks fan, I might be borderline suicidal. You all are really optimistic to think this team can crack 20 wins. Well, at least they play the 'Cats 4 times.....I mean, look at this roster....what the hell is this? Pf-Walker Sf-Harrington C-Collier SG-Childress PG-Diaw Bench: Ivey D. Smith J. Smith Chris Crawford Tony Delk Even bringing Bobby Sura back would be a huge help at this point...
PG - Boris Diaw/Tony Delk SG - Josh Childress/Donta Smith/Royal Ivey SF - Al Harrington/Josh Smith/Travis Hansen PF - Antoine Walker/Chris Crawford C - Jason Collier/??? They need to re-sign Bob Sura and get a Center from Free Agency.

They have improved on paper, but people still need to realize these are the HAWKS. Playoffs are most likely out of the picture for yet another season, and they will continue to have a couple thousand fans watching them play each game. As for the individual players - Walker is a good player, but he's overpaid. Harrington is underrated, and hopefully he'll gain the attention he deserves. Childress has the opportunity to become something special, but it will take a couple of years.
