Nowadays, everyone is talking about Shaq and the Heat. It seems like everyone has forgotten about Phoenix's recent aquieries, like Steve Nash and Quentin Richardson. I think they have a pretty strong team right now, and I think they could be contendors for the championship. What do you think?
Well...let's assume that Amare can play center all season, and Marion was a PF...they couldn't win the West with this lineup, but they could contend and make the playoffs. However, they are out of position...but it's always a possibility... C - Amare Stoudemire PF - Shawn Marion SF - Joe Johnson SG - Quentin Richardson PG - Steve Nash You're talking about a nasty team...and definitely West contenders...but I think the Suns need to send the Matrix packing for a really nice center...then they'll be looking better.
They have a hell of a starting lineup, but still are in the market for a center. Without a center you really cant win out west amare wont play center considering he already stated his thoughts on the teams center spot. I also think they wont be much of a title contender this season because they have no dpeth in there bench ok you have in your starting lineup amare, matrix, nash, Q, and ?. Then your bench you have joe johnson and who else. Players like leandrio and other average or below average players wont get you far in the playoffs. That is one of the problems the lakers had when they were beat in the playoffs by the spurs 2 years ago they had no depth besides kobe and shaq. The suns need to improve there bench to get better they traded there lottery pick to the bulls this season so didnt get the best player from the draft. Then nash is 30 years old over paying for him got you a good player, but now limits your ability to get depth do to his salary size. Q is good and all, but shoots under 40% a guy who averages 17 points and shoots under 40% can be good, but may sometimes shoot you out of a game. Then amare will be very good next year over 50% shooter and a big force possible all star, but he is still young and needs to further define his post game to reach his full potential. Then Joe Johnson will take a huge cut in minutes this season as he will be tossed back to the bench. His growth may be taking a hit for the suns current success. I think that the matrix needs to average at least 20 points for them to be successful this year last year he averaged 19 he has to much talent he can score 24 a game if he wants to with his good shooting he shouldnt think about passing the ball as much as he does. He is older than amare and while amare is developing I think he needs to lead this team not amare. I dont think they will make it to the western finals this year. They dont have nearly enough depth to get passed the spurs, twolves, nuggets, or even the lakers. Also if the lakers couldnt do it with 4 future all of famers. The suns cant do it with four good starters with alot of talent, but all have there down points nash is 30, Q shoots badely, marion doesnt demand the ball enough, and amare is still developing. Mabye next year they can go far though imo.
That team would suck mightily on defense. Let's stop kidding ourselves. Marion is best fit as a perimeter defender, and he will never be able to contain someone like Kevin Garnett. I think the best-case scenario for Phoenix would be a 45-win season, and an early first-round exit.
Shawn Marion canot play PF! The Suns are a young team and they have a bright future if the team stay together. I say they could be title contenders in maybe 2 more seasons when Amare Shawn Marion and Q-Rich will be in there prime. They also have an ok bench in JJ and Barbosa is a solid back up for Steve Nash, the one thing the Suns are missing is a true center.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Silky Smooth:</div><div class="quote_post">Shawn Marion canot play PF! </div> I know...that was my point of saying that the Suns need to grab a center. Then they could have Amare at PF and Marion at SF. They look sick when you throw in all of their talent, but like you said...Marion isn't a PF, and Amare doesn't wanna play the paint...so they need to send Marion somewhere for someone like Ratliff or even possibly Dampier.
i think the team will be C-Jake Voshkul Or Jackson Vroman or Caparkaba PF-Amare SF-Matrix SG-Q PG-Stevie Nash sixth man-Joe Johnson i think the suns will be the star team in the west with amare exploiding and having the sames number of last year (20ppg 9rpg) i think he gonna be the star of this team Q will be a good adition to add 3pointers and more offense to the team nash can hand the ball and be the director of game if he continue having more than 8apg and matrix continues her contribution and JJ will be a star sixth man this year i think the weak position of center can be cover for 3 players vroman, caparkaba and voskhul the player plays well will be the starter and i think he yet can get a priceless center in the free agency can be chris mihm
Definitely not !!! I don't even think Houston has a chance. I wish people would just get it in their heads that the West will be easily won by San Antonio or Minnesota.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Bahir:</div><div class="quote_post">I wouldnt count out the Lakers just yet... their situation is kinda like Jordan's Bulls</div> How is the Lakers situation like the Bulls? I'm not getting this, is anyone else?
Odom is no where near pippen. Not even close! He doesn' thave close to the D pippen had, and he isn't even as good of a scorer as pippen.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Bahir:</div><div class="quote_post">God-like player (MJ-Kobe) good backup (Pippen-Odom) along with a fairly weak 4 and 5</div> Not to mention a guy who can knock down the three when he's needed (Rush) and...if they keep Horace Grant...it's even more of a comparison. Too bad Phil left.
They don't have what horace grant brought in his prime, a third all star. Nor do they have a Rodman type player, a dominating rebounder that doesn't even need to score. They don't have much of anything for a frontcourt. Brian Grant is no where near what Grant and Rodman were, neither is Medvadenko or who ever else they have, Divac is old and tired and slow and boring and blah blah blah. I'm sorry but the lakers are like a living off dirt man's version of the bulls, not a poor man's version. Worse than a poor man's version.
Well allright. But lets get back to the Suns. Will they stand a chanse against T-Wolves or the Spurs?

That's a starting center begging to get pummeled down low, that's what that is. Shawn Marion is not a power forward by any means. He's far too small to play that. He'd get mutilated by people like Duncan and KG down on the block. So, there's one thing wrong with that defense right there. Amare is not a center either. He's not big enough to play that position. He's a power forward and that's where he will or at least should play. That lineup, to me, yes, it does have talent, but, that's a lineup begging to get beat on. It's far too small and ungodly undersized. Out East, it's possible that that lineup could work, but, in the West, it's too small. You have too many people playing out of position for it to work.

I guess I'll have to edit my first post to make it obvious.
I don't see the Suns doing much. They have a good "talented" team but I just don't see them winning lots of games. But hey, you never know.
The team is a playoff contender because they are so athletic, they can run everyone out of the gym in a snap. If they have a willingness to hustle, their defense would skyrocket to the League's elite. This team can take the ball inside as well as play the perimiter. They can also play like a clone of New Jersey while still keeping a halfcourt game like San Antonio and Detroit. I think they can kill alot of these overrated west coast teams. The only teams that they might run into trouble with is Memphis and Dallas because they are capable of playing high tempo games.
