I would only want Damp if he was staying for one year so we could come up with something good for him by deadline. He'd get his wish to be on a winning team if he gets traded by deadline and we could get rid of some bad contracts too. I'm sure a team that thinks they can win a championship with Damp would be willing to take Eschmeyer with them and some other guys like Popeye Jones. (If we lose Popeye we still have some good lockeroom leaders like (Clif/Fisher/Foyle)
hello Warrior fans. gotta admit i'm not a big G.S. fan but i am a huge bball nut(and true die hard Knickaholic).. just 1 question for you guys. what do you think I. Thomas would have to offer to get a sign and trade deal done for Damp?
I dont think there is really anything that would be good enough for Damp on the Knicks squad. I would take Marbury for Damp, Jrich and maybe someone else for cap room.

IMO I think there is nothing good that can be offered that we actually need unless we bring in a third team that's willing to take on the Knick's extremely large contracts (most of these contracts don't end for another two years). We've got every position we need filled with the exception of small forward and the Knicks don't have any forwards that I think are that great coming off the bench. Like for instance, Shandon Andersen (bad contract and size at 6'6") Afernee Hardaway (bad contract and lack of bulk at 215 pounds and age and injury prone), Houston (same), Tim Thomas (wouldn't be a good fit coming off the bench but would consider his versatility taking him if it was only for Damp), and Trevor Ariza (overrated). the problem with the Knicks is they are in salary cap hell for another two years. They can't absorb big contracts unless someone takes on theirs.
JO is now publically asking for Dampier. I would be surprised if Damp signs a one year deal with the Pacers, so if he goes there it probably would be with a sign and trade. What do you guys think from the Pacers? Would you like Bender or Artest in a sign and trade. Or is there any other guy in their squad we'd want?
GS tried to do a sign and trade with the Pacers but GS wanted Bender,Bird says he is untouchable. Don't expect there to be a sign and trade involving GS and Indy I'm also pretty sure Dampier won't sign for 2.7 million which is all the Pacers have to spend this summer. Doesn't matter what JO has asked for, It's not going to get him who he wants.
I would like to see Damp sign with Indy for their MLE for 1 year. I could respect that. I would also like to work out a sign and trade to Indy if we could get Artest, or Bender.
haha lol i really dont know where this guy is going an i really dont care i think the best thing for him would be to resign with the warriors bit i donno so well see.

I would also like to work out a sign and trade to Indy if we could get Artest, or Bender.</div> Like AllNet said, the Pacers don't have their full MLE any more. They used about half of it to re-sign Anthony Johnson. Actually, the list of teams who still have thier full MLE is pretty small. Memphis, Dallas, NJ, Houston, New York, Indiana, Miami, Chicago, Sacramento, LAL, Utah, Detroit, Milwaukee, Orlando, SA, Phoenix, Philidelphia, Toronto, and Washington have all used all or part of their MLE. In fact, I believe the only teams that still have their full MLE or salary cap space to use are: Boston, Charlotte, NO, Denver, Portland, LAC, Minnesota, Cleveland, Atlanta, and Seattle. If I had to bet, I'd say one of two things will happen. Either Damp will sign with Atlanta (which is most likely) or the Warriors will work out a sign and trade with Indiana for Bender. Indiana's MO is to wait until late into free agency before they make a deal. So the longer Damp remains a free agent, the more likely it is that Indiana will work out a deal. Actually, and this is very irresponsible of me to get people's hopes up by doing this, but what the heck...how 'bout this for a three way deal: The Warriors S&T Damp to Indiana and Dunleavy to Sacramento The Pacers send Artest to Sacramento The Kings send Peja to the Warriors and Songaila and a future first rounder to Indiana. That would work for the Warriors and the Kings, but I think Indiana is getting screwed over a bit. The problem is that Sacramento doesn't really have something good to send Indiana's way. Songaila and a pick probably wouldn't be enough, but Bobby Jackson would be too much to give up and there isn't anyone else who they could trade while making a deal work under the cap. I suppose they could send Christie to the Pacers for Croshere. I dunno, does this sound fair: Warriors get: Peja for Dunleavy and Damp Kings get: Artest, Dunleavy, and Croshere for Peja and Christie Pacers get: Damp and Christie for Artest and Croshere It's a three team, six player deal with A LOT of money involved, but it looks like a fair trade all around.
The last trade sounds more fair. Pacers get a good defensive shooting guard and Dampier. 2, 3, 4, and 5 sound pretty solid then for the Pacers. King's get the DPOY Artest, Dunleavy (a player that could be very good some day) and Croshere (who is good but hasn't been the same since finding money)
Okay, I just worked out the numbers, and it actually gets more complicated (and thus less realistic) in order to work under the cap. If there was a trade, this would be what it would look like: Warriors trade Damp, Dunleavy, and Eschmeyer for Peja and Pollard Kings trade Peja and Christie for Dunleavy, Artest, and Foster Pacers trade Pollard, Artest, and Foster for Damp, Christie, and Eschmeyer Pretty unrealistic, but stranger things have happened this offseason. It works under the cap and, to me at least, it looks like a fair deal talentwise. If anything, I'd think the Kings would be getting the short end of the stick, but if Webber wants tougher players, Artest certainly meets that criteria.
You think Larry Bird would accept that trade if it included Eschmeyer though? I'd think he'd want Dunleavy in that trade as well. We'd probably have to cough up Jrich or Pietrus.
I'm sure Bird would want more than that, but I'm not sure if he'd get it. From a talent standpoint, the Pacer's willingness to do the deal would depend on how much faith they have in Bender. For the next two years, Christie and Jackson would start at the 2 and 3. Christie would replace Artest as the main perimeter defender while Jackson would provide more scoring than Artest. Damp would certainly be an upgrade at center, which is the position of greatest need for the Pacers. After Chritie's contract is up in '06 (if not before), Bender would probably be ready to step into the starter's spot at sf and Jackson would shift to sg. From an economic standpoint, the deal would save them about 10 mil over lives of the contracts, and even more if there's a luxury tax in any of the years. The Pacers are scared of the luxury tax, which is why they had to ship Miller to the Kings. If Damp was signed to a contract starting at 6.5-7 mil (which is the figure I've been using this whole time) and Bender is re-signed to a reasonable contract in a few years, then they should have a great starting 5 at a reasonable price for the next several years. Custodian, I know you can't wait to get rid of Dunleavy, I think Mullin will hold on to him as long as possible. Now the Warriors wouldn't really need Dunleavy if they had Peja, but Mullin will most likely demand to get something more from Indiana if he were to Dunleavy to the Pacers.
Unless Dampier really really get desperate, like how Marc Jackson spent cash before he even gets the contract, there is very little chance that he will accept MLE other than Warriors. By accepting MLE other than Warriors, he will lose Bird Right, and that means either he signs with teams that has enough caproom or play two more years with the team that he signed. The way he was being treated this season, chance of him getting a 10+ mils next year is very slim, and if he signs with that team for two more years, he will be 32 years old when he gains Bird Right, so teams will probabaly not throw huge some of cash at him. Since, Atlanta's offer is still alive, I doubt he will accept anything less than what Atlanta is offering...
Atlanta just traded for Peja Drobnjak. Wonder what that means for Dampier now and his Atlanta offer. source: nba.com
It means Atlanta got tired of waiting and their offer for 9 mils is now gone. Hawks should have 10 mils caproom before, and with that trade, they now have 7 mils caproom. They still can squeeze Dampier, but the offer is smaller...
Boy, Damp is in a bad spot. Atlanta seemed the right fit, after getting Walker and actually attempting to field a team next year, but if they can only offer $7, that's not the kind of money Damp would want long term. New York is on crack, they want Damp to play for nothing to go for a "championship", yuh, right, New York is a lottery team at best. And Mullins won't cooperate on a sign and trade. Dallas has said they want him, but hasn't had any luck dealing with Mullins. Stackhouse could actually contribute in Golden State. And I'm sure the Lakers would love to have him, but don't think they have much to offer. What will happen? It's anyone's guess.
Why would Damp want to go to the Hawks anyways? I never really considered that as a good option for him. btw- Sunshine- Its Mullin, not Mullins.

Long enough to cash in on last years success, and short enough for him to get another contract in a few years. You are right, the Hawks aren't great, but compared to the Knicks, heck, I'd take the money and move to Atlanta. I'd take less money to go to a contender, like maybe Phoenix, if I were him, but not the Knicks.
The Knicks were a playoff team last year and will be again next year especially if Dampier played for them. Why would that not be a good fit for him?
