<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Sources have confirmed that Loren Woods will sign a two year non-minimum contract on Thursday with the Toronto Raptors. Woods is a 26 year old, 7-2 Center from Arizona and is entering his fourth season in the NBA after spending two years with Minnesota and one with Miami last season. Woods had an excellent summer with the Charlotte Bobcats summer league team and is expected to compete for the starting job in training camp next to recent lottery pick Rafael Araujo. -Jonathan Givony</div> http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap.php#1091591647 I'm not too familiar with this guy but he's a 7'2 center who comes cheap and has been in the league for 3 years so that's good enough for me. He's also 26 yrs old and most centers don't usually mature till they're in their mid 20's so this is a perfect time to pick him up. His improvements over the summer is also a major plus. Overall, good signing IMO. Wood's profile from nba.com
I remember he was a decent player when he was with Arizona. We're not paying him much so good pickup.
He has potential and talent, but has never lived up to any of it. Good player at AZ, but has dissapointed in Minnesota and Miami. He comes cheap though, so i think it's a decent pickup. I want to see him do good here, i really think he could contribute in TO.
I'm not totally sure that im getting it rite, but supposely Loren Woods was a lottery pick at one point until he said something like "he wasnt in to basketball sometimes" and that scared alot of scouts....I heard member when he played behind Timmy D
does anyone remember how woods used to part of the t.wolves organization and he had some altercation with coach saunders or management and he was waived soon after? this is a curious singing from that vantage point of previous acrimony but i do agree woods did impress in summer league. he's got all the tools, height, above average skill in comparison with all the big's out but he's got in bad situations wherever he's went. from articles i've read it appears as if robert traylor signed for the league minimum (1.6), don't u guys think he would have been a much a better fit?
I'm not too big on Woods. He could easily turn out to be another Jerome Moiso-big expectations, small contributions.
I remember when he came into the league, he was one of my favorite players. I thought he was going to be really good, I haven't seen his season stats for last season or his summer league stats, but I would say his time has past.
He's a decent pickup. He won't play everyday but should log minutes when Bosh and Araujo or on the bench at the same time. Hopefully he can block some shots for us and a get a basket here and there. My only question is, why Thursday?
Damnit, I wanted the Bobcats to sign him. =( But since the Raptors are my second favourite team, I guess there's no where else I would want him besides Charlotte. I think He played exceptionally well in the summer league. He can get you rebounds, blocks, and points and gives you another big body.
okay he's being signed for the league minimum, did u really think we were going to get the second coming of wilt chamberlin with that? woods in controlled minutes can be effective plus he compliments the high tempo orientated game implemented by coach mitchell.
I think Bonner is more likely to be signed after the training camp since he has experience in the European league. Pape Sow might have to be sent to Europe for a season or two.
ugh :thumbsdow this guy is a scrub. he's had "potential" every year, and so far he's been nothing but a journeyman with VERY limited playing time he's a waste of money imo...id rather have moiso getting whatever minutes he gets. detroit is all loaded up with big men now...we should make a move for elden campbell
^^ I'd love to see Campbell in a Raps uniform. I dunno if anyone noticed, but he was the most effective one one one defender on Shaq in the finals.
Rob Babcock has no clue what he's doing. What's the point in signing Woods when he will never get minutes since he's a bust?
Dunno why you guys knock moiso so much, he has potential, and showed what he can do with minutes last season getting a double double in 2 straight games when he played 25 or more minutes. I thik he will be a pleasent surprise this year.. he is athletic and a shot blocknig presence. Its been said that he can touch top of backboard
Well we only have 1.5 million to spend. Loren Woods isn't such a bad signing. He showed he's got some game in the summer league, and even if he's a bust he and Moiso can take up some minutes for Aroujo, unless he turns out to be a bust too. THen the raps are really screwed. I don't get why Babcock didn't just draft Nelson. We wouldn't have to blow 5 million on skip and we'd have 6.5 to spend on a centre. And if we didn't sign mopete's hideous contract we'd have 11.5 to spend.
