Sup ppl. I just wanted to get some opinions on what you guys think about Van Gundy coaching a new Miami Heat this year. Do you think he has what it takes go guide the Heat to a championship title? or should we be in the market for a coach that can tap the true potential of this team and give us a tighter edge?

I'll kick it off: Coach Stan Van Gundy spent his first two years as an assistant coach and the last six seasons as Assistant Head Coach under now President Pat Riley, and was selected as Head Coach for the Heat in 03-04 season after Pat Riley resigned a week before the season began. After a 0-7 start, Van Gundy was able to turn the team around and end the season winning above 500, making the heat contendors in the playoffs by taking them to the second round and giving Indiana problems, which many experts and analysts thought would not happen. He sparked interest back into the Heat, Miami, and many fans of the game. Although he has no titles under his belt, he has shown that he can do a lot given very little. Now he's been given the chance to make the Heat into title contendors with the addition of shaq playing along side EJ and D Wade and whoever else will be starting/rotating as the Heat continue to add depth.

I think he can bring the title to Miami considering they can add the supporting cast that shaq ej and d wade will need to keep them competitive. If the Heat can put together a sweet team that has depth, I'd say that van gundy would be the weakest link because he lacks the experience of taking teams into any championship and winning, and if they don't win a title in 3 years, the Shaq trade would have been a failure. In that case it would be smart for the Heat to start shopping around for a better coach while shaq is still healthy and the team is still together. I'd give SVG about 2 seasons max for the heat to win the title before giving thought to replacing him.

SVG is a good coach, and I think he'll do well with the Heat, but not enough to get a championship THIS YEAR. Maybe in 2 years we'll get championship... the pistons are just too much, and the west as well.

nice little analogy there. I have faith in Stan Van Gundy. Next year we could have a title on our hands. This year we will be second in the East only to the Pistons. I believe we are the 4th best team in the NBA right now following only the Pistons, Spurs, and T-Wolves. We will get better free agents next year and we could end up winning it all. Malone would help us big time. He is the topp free agent left on the MArket IMO.
