If Latrell Sprewell retires as a Twolf in about 3 years, gets a ring, and makes it to 20,000 points, all 3 of which are good possibilities, do you think he deserves the hall of fame? It's a borderline case IMO, but the PJ incident might keep him out. He's a 4 time All Star, a one time All NBA first team selection and All NBA second team defense selection, and has averaged more than 15ppg in 12 consecutive seasons. Opinions?
The answer is a flat-out, no. There are already numerous players who are in the Hall of Fame that are better than Sprewell, and shouldn't have even been in the Hall of Fame in the first place. Sprewell was/is a great player, but I don?t he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.
A no he is not a all of famer in my mind. If he gets a ring he will be playing a supporting role although a big supporting role a supporting role none the less to Kevin Garnett. He has not won a nba mvp award and has had a really bad history. He will without question get his number retired by the wolves or the knicks, but he wont be a hall of famer. Here in minnesota he is second mabye the third option in clutch time. In new york he was the second option to allen houston or patrick ewing when he was there. He has never carried a team of his back and only reached one nba finals and that was in a lock out year. There are some great players who averaged over 20 points there entire carear and probable wont get in. I dont think they will put spree in. Though I would love to see it.
I generally agree. Though actually I don't think he will have his number retired by the Knicks. NY won't retire the numbers of Bernard King or Carl Braun, and judging the relationship between James Dolan and Spree, well...... http://basketballreference.com has an interesting hall of fame monitor. They have a scale judging on a player's career accomplishments of liklihood to get into the HOF on a 135 point scale. Spree needs about 20 points, so he might make it, but there are a handful of players they have rated that high who havent made it such as King, 'Nique, and Arty Gilmore. Then again there's players such as James Worthy, Dan Issel, and ole' Dave D. who are in but come no where close. Check it out, it's pretty interesting=)
Possibly but i doubt it.. still a great player who should have his number retired.. if he reaches 20,000 and gets a ring it would be an awesome way 2 top off a controversial career.. id love to see it. Say what u will about his name, but take nothing away from his game..
i bet the wolves retire it and i wouldnt be surprised if he enters the hall as the first wolf with his relationship with the knicks
No I dont think Spree has the credentials to be in the HOF...hes a great numbers guy but has done nothing in the playoffs (except one Finals) and is not really what I would consider a superstar....hes a great player but just not a HOF one...

Players like Alex English & George Gervin put up great numbers but never went anywhere in the post season yet they are in. With that being said,IMO the Hall Of Fame is a joke, some of the people that are in it don't deserve to be. The Hall's 'guidelines' for entering are way too lax and need to be tightened up to fit the 'best of the best' status it supposedly requires.
He will definetely be a hall of famer. His career isn't over yet and he has already almost had a HOF career already.
I think its a possibility, and its very likely my boy Spree will make the Hall Of Fame. He's had a great career and he owns records of 15 691 points, 3470 rebounds, 3485 assists and shot 43% from the field over his career so far. His career averages are 18.8PPG, 4.20RPG, 4.2APG and 43%FG in 39.4MPG.
Spree carried the warriors on his back... before the PJ incident... and carried the Knicks into the playoffs after Ewing... but I think the PJ incident hurts his chances.. he was going to be a great player before that happened... I hope he gets in..

woe. thats some crazy s***. i think spree has the ablity to be a Hall-Of-Famer. He just needs a few more years. But right now its so-so. Maybe even just a number retiree
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting tradebark:</div><div class="quote_post">Sprewell choked then-coach PJ Carlesimo</div>if that doesn't get you in the hall of fame I don't know what does. he also landed a couple of punches on him.
Good opinions  But I disagree with the comment "he has done nothing in the postseason" He led the Knicks to the NBA Finals, and averaged 26ppg in the Finals, which is 5th among active players.......
Man, I never knew he choked him. That dwindle's his chances, as much as i like the thought of my boy Spree going to the HOF, I doubt it now because of the choking. Did anyone else on the team hate PJ Carmesilo[sp?]?
I always heard that Spreewell did something to make others dislike him a bit but I never knew he chocked a coach.... I doubt he will be in the hall of fame. I give it about a 71/0 chance that he won't make it.
Still up in the air, If Spree wins a ring with the wolves and is an intergral part of the team winning the ring then he has a shot. If he can continue his productivity for several more years that will bolster his chances as the Hall Of Fame (in all sports) tends to favor long productive careers. Right now he is not in but it is a possibility, you can't say for sure because his career is not over. btw Spree in '99 was a force, easily top tier shooting guard, he and Houston carried the knicks offensively without Ewing. I still wonder what would have happened if we had the Big 'fella healthy.
