    Crawford Deal At Hand

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">August 3, 2004 -- Bull combo guard Jamal Crawford could become a Knick as soon as today, as Chicago GM John Paxson has made a counter-offer that Knick president Isiah Thomas is expected to accept, according to sources.
Paxson has removed two overpaid swingmen ? the Knicks' Shandon Anderson and the Bulls' Eddie Robinson ? from the deal, allowing the Bulls to save an additional $10 million in future payroll.

Though Thomas wanted to move Anderson, it appears Paxson is willing to accept Moochie Norris in a compromise the Knick president couldn't refuse.

Meanwhile, The Post has also learned Golden State center Erick Dampier will visit the Knicks in New York this week, an indication the Knicks are still very much in the hunt.

If the Crawford deal goes through as expected, the Knicks still have the pawns to trade for Dampier or at least be in position to award him the mid-level exception. Nazr Mohammed, Kurt Thomas and Othella Harrington are all available in a Dampier package.

In a related story, the Hawks are now talking to Dallas about Antoine Walker.

Meanwhile, the pared-down Crawford package would likely include Dikembe Mutombo, Norris and $3 million moving to the Bulls for Jerome Williams and Crawford, at the very least. It's unclear if the newest offer attempted to bring back Frank Williams in the package. Crawford would sign a six-year, $55 million contract. </div>

Finally it looks like this deal is going to go happen, the Crawford deal hd so many twist and turns but hopefully now its finally done.

The Knicks though are going to get better they addded another scorer, and they still are in the hunt for Eric Dampier,if they could get him they would be a team to beat in the East.

    2005 NBA Champions???
I Hope Frank Williams Doesn't Get Traded He's Gonna Be A Great PG And Then Everyone Will Regret Trading Him...
He Can Backup Marbury Or Crawford When They Are Tired...
That Will Be A Great Team...

I also hope Frank Williams doesn't get thrown in this deal. I think Frank Williams can be a factor this year with the knicks. Especially if Houston "we have a problem" doesn't come back 100%. I would of love to get E-Rob in this deal instead of JYD. Can we please get this deal done ASAP, so we can then go after Dampier & solidify our chances to win our division & make some noise in the playoffs.

    Knicks Get Closer To Crawford....

    [IMG][IMG]
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Knicks finally may be getting Jamal Crawford and perhaps the short end of a long-anticipated trade as well.
A deal that would bring Crawford to New York could be finalized as early as today, according to Aaron Goodwin, who represents the Bulls' free-agent guard. Goodwin, Chicago GM John Paxson and Knicks president Isiah Thomas were still working out details of Crawford's contract, which could be worth $56 million over seven years.

"There are still some things we're working on," Goodwin said. "I think it could happen (today)."

The Knicks would acquire Crawford as well as veteran forward Jerome Williams while the Bulls would be getting what they've coveted all along: four players in the final year of their contracts.</div>

Not really there is a such thing as adding by subracting. They have the big boys down low, along with Luol Deng, and Ben (supposed to be Jordan)Gordon and Kirk Hinrich who will be a premiere PG in the league.

There was no room for Crawford

Crawford's tenure with Bulls may come to close shortly (Subscription)

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">As of late Wednesday, Jamal Crawford remained a Bull.

How much longer he will be one depends on which story to believe from the two that circulated Wednesday.

In one, league sources said Knicks owner James Dolan grew so furious at Crawford and his agent, Aaron Goodwin, for not immediately accepting a seven-year, $55 million contract as part of a sign-and-trade scenario that he told team President Isiah Thomas to reconsider the deal.

In another, a league source said the Knicks floated the above story in an attempt to make Bulls general manager John Paxson panic and accept a lesser deal from Thomas. </div>

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">August 5, 2004 -- While Erick Dampier was visiting Westchester yesterday talking about signing with the Knicks for the mid-level exception if need be, Jamal Crawford and his agent were still haggling over terms of their new Knicks contract.
Crawford's contract was not finalized, dragging this saga out another day to the point of nausea. The Bulls and Knicks finished off five weeks of intense sign-and-trade negotiations to finally produce a deal Tuesday, with Crawford and Jerome Williams coming to the Knicks for Dikembe Mutombo, Frank Williams, Othella Harrington and Cezary Trybanski. But it can't be officially consummated until Crawford signs, likely today.

"It's progressing but it's not there yet," an NBA source said.

In the new configuration of players, Crawford would have to make a little less in the first year to make the math work. So instead of the promised $55 million over six years, the Knicks needed to sign him for seven years, $56 million.

Hey chuck in Dampier... and all of a sudden the Knicks have a real shot in cracking and making the top 4 in the East in my opinion....

I really hope they utilise Penny at the pg, and Jamal at the sg, whenever Allan/ Steph are off.... Jamal is a great scorer (50pts this season)... and penny is alot better play maker than Jamal is, so why not use his size, and skills at the pg, and let Jamal score at the 2 guard...
