I got this information from ESPN Insider (Thanks "number 8" from The Wire).

Kidd Wants To Be A Laker!
ESPN Insider

"Don't count the Mavericks out of the Jason Kidd sweepstakes just yet. In 60 days, the team will be allowed to trade Jason Terry again, and sources claim they made the deal with Atlanta with an eye toward landing Kidd down the road if he proves to be healthy.

Terry and Alan Henderson or Christian Laettner in exchange for Kidd works under the cap and gives the Nets back a starting point guard as well as significant cap relief.

However, league sources claim the Lakers, not the Mavericks, are the team Kidd really wants to play for. Look for the Kidd camp to keep pushing the Lakers to send the expiring contracts of Gary Payton and Rick Fox along with a young player like Caron Butler or Kareem Rush to the Nets in return for Kidd. The deal would give the Nets lots of cap relief, along with a promising young player, and give the Lakers the best backcourt in the NBA. A combo of Kidd, Kobe Bryant, Lamar Odom, Brian Grant, and Vlade Divac would immediately make the Lakers the favorites in the West.

Why wouldn't the Lakers just pull the trigger now? Because owner Jerry Buss is worried about the five years, $90 million left on Kidd's contract, as well as Kidd's long-term health. The Lakers essentially would have four players making the max next year -- and two of them (Kidd and Grant) have chronic knee problems.

If the Lakers and Mavs don't come through, however, Kidd might not be going anywhere. Other teams with interest include the Sonics and Blazers, but sources claim he doesn't want to play for either."

wont happen with Payton there, although a Bryant/Kidd tandem I think would work better than a Bryant/Payton tandem...

How about...

C - Divac
PF - Malone
SF - Odom
SG - Bryant
PG - Kidd

IMO, that's a Western Conference threat. I don't care what anyone says about the West centers...here's the facts. It's not the centers that pose a problem...it's the power forwards. Duncan, Garnett, Nowitzki, Webber, Martin...they are all PFs. Malone can work these guys to death, IMO...because he is tough and has probably one of the best conditioned bodies in the NBA, especially for being his age. Rasho, Ervin Johnson...these guys are the centers...so the only guys that would pose a problem for Divac would be Yao Ming and Jamaal Magloire. However, "Superflop" will do what he does best, and what I've always hated him for until now, and will put them in foul trouble. If the Lakers have the lineup I mentioned, along with Brian Grant, Horace Grant, Butler, Vujacic, Rush, Medvedenko, and Walton off the bench...they'll be much better than everyone thinks.

they'll definitely be a better team with kidd than what they have now... but to put them as a favorites is quite humorous... MAYBE the favorites in the pacific, but thats about it

Okay...the way I look at it, if they are favs in the Pacific, they are favs in the playoffs. They can get a top 3 seed if they win their division...and that means possibly avoiding the Spurs until the West Finals...and hopefully Minnesota can take care of the Rockets, or something...seriously, the West is going to be really hard to predict [IMG]

How is it humorous? it might be a little over exaggerating, but it isn't "humorous" at all. A team with Kobe and Kidd in the back court, and Odom, Divac and possibly Karl with Butler and Grant coming off the bench is a serious team. The Spurs would probably still be the favorites, but not by much. I'm not saying this as a Laker fan either, anyone who looks at that lineup should know that's one hell of a team. I'm not a supporter in bringing in Kidd because of his long term deal, but if it does happen don't under estimate this team. I guarantee you that it won't be "humorous" when you see them as a top 3 team in the west.

I hope you laker fan relize that Kobe and Kidds contracts will be with them for the rest of the decade. Kidd is getting older too. Thats not what the Lakers need. If the get Kidd they mind as well shouldve kept Shaq. Kidd will probably make KObe better but then people will say It was because of Kidd which it is. Kidd is a leader. Kobe is not. Also Malone will most likely sign with HEat. They would be giving up a young talent too. I also think the Lakers will have to give up more than Gary, CAron, and Rick Fox. 2 really old players and a unproven talent for the best PG in the game. I really dont want Kidd to go there. He needs to go somewhere where there is young talnet that he can make better. If Kidd some how went to the Bobcats I would like that. Id rather have Kidd go to the Mavs

If Malone goes to the Heat, he will be by far the poorest excuse for a player I've ever seen in the league in my opinion...not because he left my team, but because of the reason: once again, to just win a ring. I thought it was pretty sad when he came to the Lakers just for a title, and the same goes for Payton...but at least the guy can stay put for more than a year. What is he going to do, bounce around the East and West conference until he wins?

Also, if Kidd comes to the Lakers, there's no way in hell Kobe will let him take over that team. Kobe, compared to Kidd, is not a leader ONLY because he's never had the opportunity to become one. On the other hand, Kidd has been the Nets' go-to guy since he's been with the organization. I really doubt Rudy will allow J-Kidd to take over a game unless Kobe is physically unable to, let alone the whole season for the Lakers.

it actually is quite humorous because that team is not close to the spurs or the wolves, and it would take a choke job by the kings (which is not out of the picture considering it is the kings) not to win that division even w/ that lineup of the lakers, and that would be the only way they would get a 3 seed. even w/ the 3 seed, they would probably still have the 5th best record in the west, 4th if they're lucky. you're talking about a team w/ 5 guys who have no strong inside game (malone is limited to what he can do in the paint at this age, and odom is not going to be able to post up like he did in the east due to the size out west, and divac is most effective at about 10-15 feet from the rim). that team is a serious playoff contender, but far from a shot at even a conference championship. Big names don't make you a favorite, you should know that being a laker fan and after watching the olympic exhibitions.

Malone and Divac won't need to play great offensively. Plus, Malone is STILL one of the best defenders near the rim...like I previously mentioned, the guy was holding his own against Shaq himself in the Laker scrimmages last year. He can defend anyone...he did great defensively against Duncan and KG in the playoffs.

Also, will everyone stop saying that you can't win without a center? OMG...Duncan and Garnett are not centers. They are PFs. Rasho and Ervin Johnson are considered bums in my opinion, compared to Divac. Here's my take on the Spurs/Lakers series:

C - Divac/Rasho
PF - Malone/Duncan
SF - Odom/Bowen
SG - Bryant/Ginobili
PG - Payton/Parker

Okay, let's just say these are the starters. Yes, Manu can start. Okay...Divac will destroy Rasho. Malone can hold Duncan defensively, but Duncan can do the same to Karl. Odom will take Bowen easily. Bryant will destroy Manu. Parker will pretty much beat Payton offensively, but without the triangle, who knows how good Payton will be next year.

This is how I look at it...and seeing it that way gives me a better outlook for the Lakers next year.

divac will not destroy rasho, he might outplay him, but he will not destroy him, rasho is not half bad... and malone wont be able to hold duncan like he did last year without help from shaq. Odom will have an advantage in terms of offensive abilities w/ bowen, but when bowen will/can contain odom, and if needed, he can guard kobe. dont forget, brent barry is also in the mix. the lakers not even in the same league as the spurs... it may look good on paper, but put them on the floor and its a different story. shaq wont be able to clog the middle on defense, and now the spurs dont have to double every time the ball drops down low.

You can look at it that way and as a Suns I do this sometimes too. Sometimes I favor my team in an arguement just simply becasue they are my favorite team. With your comparisons I must switch some of them.. Rasho would kill Vlade. Vlade is old, slow, and can't do much anymore. Malone cannot hold Duncan defensively, he could not do it last year so what makes you think he can do it one year later and after knee surgery. Besides it looks like Malone will not even sign with the Lakers at this point. So at the 4 you play an undersized Odom who will get destroyed by Duncan even worse then Malone would have. Then you have the ability to keep Bowen on Kobe defensively. Manu and Brent Barry would then guard Butler, Fox, and George assuming a couple of those guys are not traded. Then yes you also have Parker to torch GP. Not a good outlook at all. I think the Lakers will be lucky to make the playoffs this year.

[IMG] You think that Bowen will be able to hold Kobe Bryant, especially this upcoming season?!? I seriously believe the Lakers will win their division, and it's not because I'm a fan either. Rush and Walton's game are going to improve greatly, and if Jason Kidd does go to Los Angeles, the Spurs will be beat, because Parker can't play Kidd one-on-one, and that's how it will have to be considering Kobe will have the biggest season of his career, ring or no ring.

First off you CANNOT trade Caron Butler if you want to make a run at Kidd. Caron has a nice future and I believe he will be a good player so I would rather have the lakers trade off devean george instead of Caron Butler because george has a bad contract. So if the lakers were serious about making a deal for Kidd, I would offer; Payton, George, Fox, and Brian Cook. If the accept that deal I would do it. Also next season I hope Brian Grant opts out and either leave or somehow restructure his contract so that it would allow some cap room for the lakers.

Im srry but the Nets would be retarded to give up a top 5 player in the league and the best PG who can make any one better for:

Gary Payton: an aging center way past his prime. I also dont think he would want to go to NJ.
George: he can only hit the open 3 and thats it. Horrible contract.
Fox: HE said he would retire if he gets traded from LA and I doubt Nets want this Pansy.
Brian Cook: Total Scrub

You would have to give up at LEAST CAron to get the Nets to even consider your offer.
