Pistons may waive Coleman 08/05 - <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">1:44 PM The Detroit Pistons may not have acquired native Detroit Derrick Coleman for his post game after all. With Pistons fans clamoring about the logjam at the power forward and center spot in Detroit, squeezing out Darko Milicic of any playing time, it appears a reprieve may be on the way. Although Coleman had a close, personal relationship with coach Larry Brown during their time together with the Sixers and Brown made it a point to mention that one of his first congratulatory calls after winning the title last spring came from Coleman, sources close to the Pistons indicated that Coleman would be waived or included in a future trade, and that McCaskill has no future with Detroit. Coleman missed 48 games last season because of injuries, including a chronic knee problem. He also had a fractured finger. He said last season that he would not undergo another surgical procedure solely to play another season or two. "We had pretty much made it clear that Derrick would most likely not be back," Sixers president/general manager Billy King said. "We didn't know exactly what the procedure was going to be." Sometimes, though, it is as critical to be lucky as it is to be good. To make the matching contracts come within 15 percent and $100,000, the Sixers had to re-sign McCaskill, an unrestricted free agent. By league rule in a sign-and-trade situation, a player must be given at least a 3-year contract with at least one season guaranteed. McCaskill, who averaged 1.9 points and 2.3 rebounds in 59 games last season, walked away with a guaranteed $922,000. "I don't look at any deals as 'steals,' " King said. "I think people make deals based on what's best for their franchise. This was a fit for us. What [Pistons president of basketball operations Joe Dumars] did was a fit for what they wanted to do." Dumars has created some precious wiggle room for '05-06, when he is expected to pick up a fourth-year option on Tayshaun Prince's rookie contract, and '06-07, when Ben Wallace becomes a free agent. "We feel like this is a good trade for our team and our organization as we move forward," Dumars said in a release on the Pistons' Web site. </div> <font color="red">Remember to quote your articles. -Franchise</font> [Phil Jasner of the Philadelphia Daily News - READ PIECE] Related: http://pistons.realgm.com Might be a better fit for the "mentor" role for Rafael Araujo than Loren Woods since Coleman has more experience and would be able to contribute right away.
i am not sure if i want him on our team, i mean he isn't going to take the minimum is he? he is another pf who would take outside shots. we already have marshall doing that and bosh starting for us at the PF. PLus dc has his own share of injuries and is imo too old to play through them.
Iuno.. just thought he might be a better option than Loren Woods and I think he will bite on the minimum salary because if the Pistons release him they are still paying him $6 mil/season through 06/07
he is a waste of skin his career is over. if we sign him he'll just get injured, retire and we'll pay him for the next two to three years, see hakim.
i really like coleman in controlled minutes, his back to the basket game is superb. coincidentally that is bosh's greatest weakness at this early stage of his career; i'm sure he could help.
might be a good pick up but i havent seen many of his games so my oppinioon would pretty much be useless hah!
If Coleman can come to T.O. cheap I don't see why it would be a bad thing. Like Deception said, under controlled minutes he could be pretty effective for the Raps. Who would you rather play off of the bench? Coleman or Moiso? I would go with experience rather than raw talent. I say buy cheap or don't buy at all.
i heard that he didnt get along with iverson in phily so i doubt he would get along with vince(if still there)
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting thedude9990:</div><div class="quote_post">i heard that he didnt get along with iverson in phily so i doubt he would get along with vince(if still there)</div> he got along with iverson fine, too well actually. the reason he's gone is that he was a terrible influence on the entire team, on and off the court. in one of the more publicized moments last season, he spent countless hours cursing at randy ayers for lack of pt while handing out nothing but negative comments to dalembert. the only time he's put in an effort was at contract time. got his money, cried about pt then sat his ass on the il. hardly a mentor of any kind, and hardly the guy you want on your team imo.
